First MediaTek-Powered Smartphone Launched by Verizon Wireless

New LG smartphone with MediaTek's premium Helio P10 chipset debuts on Verizon network

HSINCHU, Taiwan, Oct. 20, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- MediaTek today announces the launch of the first-ever MediaTek-powered CDMA/LTE smartphone by Verizon Wireless. The LG Stylo(TM) 2 V marks MediaTek's debut as a certified smartphone chipset provider to Verizon Wireless.

The LG Stylo 2 V uses the MediaTek Helio P10, a richly integrated system-on-chip ( SoC) for high-performance, power-efficient and slim smartphone designs. This first device launch with Verizon Wireless in collaboration with LG validates MediaTek as a relevant SoC supplier to the U.S. smartphone marketplace.

"MediaTek has worked diligently to prove its silicon, modem and software capabilities on the Verizon network and meet its high quality expectations," said Mohit Bhushan, MediaTek Vice President and General Manager of U.S. Business Development. "We collaborated with LG on a best-in-class phablet device that delivers uncompromised quality, features and technology."

MediaTek Helio P10 is a high-performance 4G LTE octa-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz. MediaTek's modem advancements extend through its Helio family of chipsets, from its P-series of power-efficient and performance-based system-on-chips (SoCs), to the X-series which offer extreme computing performance for flagship devices. The MediaTek Helio P10 integrates a suite of multimedia features, including gaming-quality graphics, 1080p video recording and HD screen support. MediaTek's premium chipsets additionally include technology that power superior hi-fidelity, hi-clarity audio and dual-camera features for increased light capture and enhanced color resolution.

The LG Stylo 2 V features a large 5.7" HD display, 1.8GHz octa-core processor, 13MP rear camera and 5MP front camera.  Other features include Android Marshmallow OS, 1080p HD video recording, 16GB built-in storage with expansion capability to 128GB via microSD card. It is available now in Verizon outlets.

This launch is a significant win for MediaTek, said Bhushan.  While already a global force in smartphone systems-on-chip (SoC's), industry watchers have looked for MediaTek to make gains in the U.S. with its Helio family chipsets.

"The collaboration leaves no doubt that MediaTek has arrived as a key player in the U.S. smartphone market," added Bhushan. " LG Stylo 2 V allows us to cater to consumers' need for an array of device choices while continuing MediaTek's commitment to bring advanced technologies to the growing middle-class consumer."
