Sqord Introduces New Wearable Social Game Rewarding Kids' Activity

Early indicators show a 55% increase in activity levels of previously inactive kids

SEATTLE, Nov. 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Sqord, Inc., today announced the launch of its new consumer wearable line -- the Sqord Activity Pod and free game app that fuels group play among kids in ways that build their physical, emotional and social health.

One part social community, one part fitness tracker, one part game:  the Sqord Activity Pod and game app tracks movement in the real world and converts it into Sqord Activity Points that kids can use in the interactive and free game app.  The App, available on iOS and Android, features customizable avatars, activities, challenges and numerous ways for kids to engage and compete with friends and family members.

The more Sqord Activity Points kids earn, the more interactive game levels and features they unlock in the app. A built-in leaderboard feature enables friends or families to compete in head-to-head challenges.  Parents can also set goals for their kids and create unique awards to further incentivize active play.

"We're excited to release the Sqord Activity Tracker and game app for kids," said Paul Sebastien, Sqord CEO. "Sqord was designed to be a fun social experience that encourages kids to run, jump and play actively together -- just like how kids used to do before being glued to screens all day.   As an entertainment platform-meets-social-health company, Sqord actually leverages the allure and fun of video gaming and turns it on its head, motivating kids to actually get active, to play with friends in the real world.  This approach creates dramatically healthier kids, physically and mentally, and ultimately healthier & happier families and communities."

Studies like the one done by the Journal of the American Medical Association show the physical activity level of kids now drops a staggering 76% during their habit forming tween years (9-14).  In addition, a recent poll by C.S. Mott Children's Hospital uncovered that, for the first time, bullying now outpaces obesity as the top health-related concern for children.  This combination of information underscores that it's not just physical health, but also emotional and social health that needs to be nurtured in kids today.

"One study has shown Sqord created a 55% increase in the activity levels of previously inactive kids," says co-founder Coleman Greene.  "Not only do kids become more active individually, but when kids are playing together and have friends on Sqord - they stay engaged 50% longer - which shows the power of playing together.  And, teachers have said Sqord improves kids' respect for peers."

Sqord is made for fun and features a kid-friendly waterproof design, 9-month battery life and is nearly indestructible to withstand the daily adventures of kids, with no plugs or recharging required.  Sqord Activity Pods are easy to wear and use a comfortable one-piece band that kids can place on their wrist, ankle or wherever they think it fits best.  If a kid's wrist can survive it, so can the Sqord Activity Pod.

The Sqord Activity Pod is designed for ages eight (8) to twelve (12) and is available in several kid friendly band colors for $34.95.  To encourage group play, Sqord also offers Dual Packs and Family Packs of four.  All Sqord Activity Pods are available on Amazon and qualify for Prime shipping.
