Walmart.com Offers Up to 40 Percent Savings on the Top 500 Children's Books in Support of Read Across America Day

Online Prices Start Under $3 with Free Shipping on Top 500 Children's Books This Month

BRISBANE, Calif., March 2 -- Walmart.com is announcing special savings on its top 500 children's books for as low as $3 (including free shipping) to make it easy and affordable for parents to share the joy of reading with their children -- a savings of up to 40 percent. This special month-long promotion kicks off today at Walmart.com on Dr. Seuss's birthday, which coincides with the National Education Association's 13th annual Read Across America Day.

Studies show that by the age of two, children who are read to regularly display greater language comprehension, larger vocabularies, and higher cognitive skills. In fact, The Early Childhood Longitudinal Study found that children who were read to at least three times a week by a family member were almost twice as likely to score in the top 25 percent in reading.

"We are strong believers in helping mom create teachable moments where she can engage with her family, from playing together to reading books together," said Kelly Thompson, Walmart.com's head of merchandising. "Offering online savings up to 40% on so many of these beloved children's books makes reading at home easy and affordable."
