Sybase and Orange Business Services Partner to Provide Mobile Device Management Services for Enterprises Worldwide
PARIS, LONDON and CeBIT, HANOVER, Germany, March 3, 2010--
- Partnership Extends Best-In-Class Enterprise Mobility Platform
Addressing Management, Security, Back-End Integration and Application
Deployment Challenges
Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY), an industry leader in enterprise and mobile
software, and Orange Business Services, a leading global communications
solutions integrator, today announced a partnership to offer innovative
mobile device management as a managed service to enterprises who want to
control their mobile assets. This service is available on any carrier in the
world, many mobile devices and numerous operating systems.
Managed Cloud-Ready Mobility Service
Orange Business Services will leverage Sybase's enterprise device
management platform to help companies tackle the challenge resulting from the
increasing number of mobile workers, devices, applications, and ever-growing
heterogeneity of corporate mobile environments. Orange Business Services will
enable enterprises to consolidate their global mobile assets (devices and SIM
cards), implement a mobile security policy, deploy all mobile applications
and control wireless spending. This device management service is hosted in
the Orange network, with Service Level Objectives, and can be easily accessed
by any enterprise that requires cross-operator, cross-device management and
is scaleable to meet both large mobile fleet demand and bursting usage.
"Security compliance, centralised mobile device control, and application
deployment are major challenges that global enterprises must overcome to
benefit from the 21st century corporate mobility world," said Caroline
Comet-Fraigneau, Head of Mobility Business Unit, Orange Business Services.
"Our cloud-ready approach to mobile device management not only addresses
these issues, but also ensures a positive return on investment by avoiding
heavy CAPEX investment, ensuring a low unit cost per user by sharing our
platform across multiple customers and helping reduce enterprise mobility
costs."
"Security issues, combined with the difficulties of managing the
heterogeneity and complexity of a mobile infrastructure, require a proven and
easy-to-deploy mobile solution," said Nigel Doust, VP of EMEA, Sybase
iAnywhere. "Orange Business Services chose to work with Sybase to offer
device management as a service, providing their enterprise customers with an
instant solution that removes many of the obstacles previously experienced."
In August 2009, IDC found that 40 percent of organisations plan to deploy
a mobile SaaS solution in the next 12-18 months[i]. Many business customers
are struggling to control their mobile costs while trying to empower
end-users to take advantage of mobile applications without compromising
security.
"The managed service model is emerging as a way to effectively meet the
needs of the rapidly growing enterprise mobility market," said Stephen Drake,
Program Vice President for Mobility & Telecom, IDC. "By leveraging Sybase's
mobility solution, Orange Business Services will offer its customers
complete, centralised device management to overcome the complexities of an
increasing mobile information workforce."
New Device Management and Security Service
Orange Business Services uses Sybase's mobility platform to support the
new managed service with:
- Mobile Device Management for device inventory, corporate settings,
upgrades and distribution, application management, email control,
cost management, monitoring the end-user experience;
- Mobile Security that enforces access codes, establishes "lock/wipe"
policies, encrypts devices and data cards, delivers firewall and
antivirus applications, and controls mobile access to corporate
applications.
