Red Bend's vDirect Mobile(TM) device management (DM) software is the industry's leading independent DM client that is interoperable with any DM server supporting standards from the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA). It enables faster time to market for mobile devices that must comply with standards-based device management. This agreement builds upon the successful implementation of vDirect Mobile with Intel-embedded WiMAX chipsets announced in February 2009.
Deployed in tens of millions of mobile devices worldwide, vDirect Mobile is used to provision new subscribers, configure applications and network settings, manage software and deploy firmware-over-the-air (FOTA) updates. It is the first DM client to support the WiMAX Management Object used by the WiMAX Forum.
"Expanding our relationship with Intel from WiMAX to handhelds demonstrates the value that Red Bend's expertise in software updating and device management brings to our customers and their product offerings," said Yoram Salinger, CEO of Red Bend Software. "Our ability to work on any type of mobile device and with any mobile platform gives us the flexibility to create a standards-based OMA-DM solution to meet our customers' specific requirements."
"The Intel Atom processor is accelerating innovation in the mobile space as devices become increasingly faster and smarter," said Pankaj Kedia, director of global ecosystem programs in Intel Corporation's Ultra Mobility Group. "Red Bend's device management solution will make it easier and more cost-effective to manage Intel Atom-based handhelds and smartphones."
Intel licensed vDirect Mobile for use in its WiMAX/WiFi Link 5350, which was embedded in new laptops based on Intel® Centrino® 2 Processor Technology. For details, read the following press release: Red Bend Announces Device Management Client for Embedded Intel WiMAX Chipsets.
