Vaadin Gets Nearly 100 New Java Add-ons and a Component Marketplace
TURKU, Finland, March 30 -- IT Mill announced today that nearly 100 new add-ons are now available in Vaadin Directory. Developers have created a vast number of free Java web widgets and integration components that are ready to be used together with the open-source Vaadin web library.
New add-ons can simply be dropped into a web project and used right away. Intelligent packaging of both client-side and server-side code in the same package helps to create sophisticated and highly reusable components. "This is a huge step forward for Java web developers. Never before has it been this easy to use web UI components that combine client-side richness to server-side security and programming model," CEO Joonas Lehtinen from IT Mill told.
Most of the add-on components offered in Vaadin Directory are free and open source, but developers also have the possibility to share their widgets and components as commercial add-ons.
Reach the Desktop of Open-Source Web Developers
Vaadin Directory creates a completely new kind of distribution channel between widget developers and the Vaadin community. "Using Vaadin Directory, widget developers can reach the desktop of thousands of other web developers already using Vaadin in their work," said Mr. Lehtinen.
Publishing free or commercial open-source widgets is extremely easy with either the export tool designed for Eclipse or simply by packaging with Ant. The add-on can then be uploaded to Vaadin Directory and instantly made available to other developers - for free or with per-developer pricing. "The possibility of selling their work in the directory is a new and positive thing for the Vaadin community. This makes it possible for developers to monetize even the smallest web widgets if they want to," Mr. Lehtinen continued.
