Verizon Wireless Makes It Easy For Consumers In New York Metro Area To Recycle Old Wireless Phones
ORANGEBURG, N.Y., April 1 -- With drop boxes in stores throughout the area and a free mailing label available on its Web site (http://www.verizonwireless.com/hopelinemailinglabel),Verizon Wireless makes it easy for those in the New York Metro area to recycle old wireless phones, batteries and accessories during National Cell Phone Recycling Week and year-round. Phones given to Verizon Wireless go to HopeLine®, the company's long-running phone recycling and reuse program that supports local domestic violence prevention and awareness organizations.
For the second straight year, Verizon Wireless is joining with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), cell phone manufacturers and retailers to increase awareness about wireless phone recycling opportunities during Plug-In To eCycling's National Cell Phone Recycling Week (April 5-11, 2010).
2009 marked one of the most successful years to date for the HopeLine program in the NY Metro area, as Verizon Wireless received more than 500 devices, accessories and batteries that it used as product donations. Additionally, monetary contributions totaled more than $50,000 to local organizations that provide assistance for victims of domestic violence.
"We're always happy to see customers in our stores, and we encourage them to give their old phones to HopeLine after upgrading their devices or buying new ones. It's an easy way to get rid of old, no-longer-needed equipment and help both the environment and people here in New York and New Jersey," said Pat Devlin, president of Verizon Wireless' New York Metro Region. "National Cell Phone Recycling Week is a great reminder that there is a good use for that old phone."
Customers can visit their local Verizon Wireless Communications Stores to quickly and easily donate their no-longer-used wireless phones, batteries and accessories to HopeLine. Collected phones will be disposed of in an environmentally sound way under a zero landfill policy or refurbished for resale and reuse. Proceeds from HopeLine support local victims of domestic violence and local non-profit advocacy agencies.
