Savvis Meets European Cloud Infrastructure Demand Through UK Data Centre Expansion
20m pounds Sterling investment in Slough data centre expansion for enterprise cloud computing and IT infrastructure services
ST. LOUIS, April 28 -- Savvis, Inc. (NASDAQ:SVVS), a global leader in cloud infrastructure and hosted IT solutions for enterprises, today announced the 20 million pounds Sterling expansion of its Slough data centre in the UK. The development is expected to meet growing European demand for its cloud computing and IT infrastructure services and also comes in anticipation of the Savvis Symphony Virtual Private Data Centre (VPDC) launch in Europe later this year.
The ISO 27001 accredited facility will be expanded by 20,000 square feet of saleable data centre space. The development will be completed in September 2010 and will result in a total of 43,000 square feet of saleable data centre floor space.
Savvis has a global data centre footprint of approximately 1.4 million square feet of raised floor space, encompassing 28 data centres worldwide, three of which are in the UK. The new expansion is one of four worldwide that are expected to be completed in 2010.
The Slough facility currently offers Savvis Symphony Open, its public cloud solution, which is the second cloud solution available from the Slough data centre. It complements the broad portfolio of managed and virtualised hosting, private cloud, and network services that Savvis currently provides to enterprises and the public sector. In addition, Savvis offers proximity hosting for the financial community.
"Following a rise in enterprise adoption of managed hosting services in Europe, we are now experiencing increasing demand for both private and public cloud infrastructure services," said Brian Klingbeil, managing director EMEA for Savvis. "From our highly secure data centre in Slough, European customers can access some of the industry's highest levels of IT infrastructure flexibility - from colocation and managed hosting to cloud computing and network services. This breadth and depth of solutions continues to attract enterprise customers into our Slough facility," added Klingbeil.
The full suite of Savvis Symphony offerings, including VPDC, is expected to be available in the UK in the third quarter of this year through the company's data centre in Slough. With Symphony VPDC, Savvis will be introducing one of the industry's first enterprise-grade VPDC solutions with multi-tiered security and Quality of Service levels.
Globally, Savvis operates a Tier 1 application transport network and was positioned as a leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Web Hosting and Cloud Infrastructure (on Demand), 2009, which can be accessed at http://www.savvis.net/magicquadrantleader.
