A New Way to Give: California Elementary Schools and Other Nonprofits Benefit From the Popularity of Verizon's Phone, TV and Internet Services
Verizon Makes Contributions to Nonprofits When Their Members Order Verizon Service Through Company's Velocity Program
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., May 10 -- Members and supporters of parent-teacher associations, community athletic organizations like Little Leagues, and churches and other registered nonprofits have found an easy way to raise thousands of dollars for their organizations with the help of Verizon.
Verizon offers nonprofits in the state an opportunity to participate in the Verizon Velocity Program, which provides eligible groups with contributions when their members or supporters purchase certain Verizon services: Verizon FiOS TV, Verizon FiOS Internet, Verizon High Speed Internet, Verizon Freedom Calling and Verizon Long Distance home phone services, or DIRECTV Service through Verizon.
The Verizon Velocity program is providing support to dozens of grassroots groups such as PTAs at Frank C. Leal Elementary School in Cerritos, Vejar Elementary in Pomona, St. Linus School in Norwalk, Mark Twain Elementary in Long Beach and Kimberly Elementary in Redlands, and the Greater Works Church in Temecula. Last year, through the program, Verizon provided nearly $15,000 in funding to Southern California nonprofits.
"We used the funds we raised to support our Family Astronomy Night," said Dina Martins, membership chair of Frank C. Leal Elementary School's PTA. "The state budget cuts have hit us tremendously hard. Community support through programs like Verizon Velocity is essential for us to continue to organize events like this for our students."
Participating groups share the Verizon Velocity toll-free number and their group's code with other members, families and friends through fliers and other free marketing tools provided by Verizon. Verizon takes care of the sales and everything else.
Organizations receive up to $65 when a member or supporter orders a FiOS Triple Play bundle that includes long-distance.*
"Verizon Velocity is creating a network of giving," said Jennifer Little, marketing director for Verizon in California. "Velocity is a win-win. Nonprofits get timely and direct financial support, and their members or supporters get superior communications, broadband and entertainment delivered with the best customer service."
Verizon has a quick and easy online enrollment process for nonprofit organizations that want to participate in the Velocity program. Once verified as a valid nonprofit, the organization will receive an electronic marketing flier that details the group's fundraising mission, a special Verizon Velocity program toll-free number, and a unique tracking code. The more an organization promotes its mission through Velocity, the more donations the organization can potentially receive.
