INRIX Launches Free Traffic Operations Service for Transportation Agencies Nationwide
Thirty-four states pre-register for INRIXTraffic.US Site to Access Traffic Flow Data in Cities, Statewide & Across State Lines
KIRKLAND, Wash., June 3 -- Just in time for the summer travel and hurricane seasons, INRIX®, the leading provider of traffic services, launched INRIXTraffic.us -- the first free, Web service to provide state, regional and municipal transportation agencies a complete view of accurate real-time traffic flow on all major highways, interstates, arterials and secondary roads in major cities, rural areas and across state lines.

With an additional 10,000 construction projects from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) added to our nation's already busy roadways this summer, state DOT, highway patrol, and emergency management agency personnel have the need for a tool to better manage traffic operations, emergency response coordination and public safety. Now, by registering at http://inrixtraffic.us/, they can leverage a service that provides a complete, real-time picture of current traffic speeds for more than 160,000 miles of roads nationwide growing to over 260,000 by the end of the year.
"INRIXTraffic.US empowers transportation agencies and their partners with situational awareness of conditions throughout their state or region, without regard to urban and rural boundaries or jurisdictional dividing lines," said INRIX Executive Director of Public Sector Ted Trepanier. "As the former director of traffic operations at Washington State DOT, I can attest to the need and value of having statewide and over-the-border views of traffic flow, particularly in times of crisis or during heavy travel periods."
Federal Highway Administration and INRIX tracking of traffic conditions nationwide shows the summer months are typically the busiest months on the nation's Interstate system in terms of overall traffic volumes, particularly on rural interstates(1). In anticipation of a particularly challenging summer travel season, hundreds of officials across dozens of agencies in 34 states have pre-registered to gain access to the site since registration opened in May.
"The response we've seen so far is phenomenal," said INRIX Vice President of Public Sector Rick Schuman. "As we begin this important summer season - where an active hurricane season is predicted by NOAA and stimulus-related work zones will be in full swing - empowering agencies with one site that provides one view of the entire system gives them an invaluable tool in their efforts to manage operations and improve public safety on across their entire road network."
INRIXTraffic.us is powered by the largest traffic network in the world that includes crowd-sourced real-time traffic information from more than 2 million GPS-enabled vehicles. Providing a foundation of continuous real-time speed and location reports to INRIX every minute for an average of 7 hours per day, per vehicle, commercial fleets - such as taxi cabs, service delivery vans and long haul trucks - represent the majority of INRIX's network. INRIX intelligently analyzes these reports and data from consumer vehicles, GPS-enabled smartphones, road sensors and hundreds of other sources to deliver a service of unparalleled coverage and quality.
Thirty-seven states now use INRIX Traffic information to power their daily operations, traveler information services and performance measures. INRIXTraffic.US builds upon nearly two years of partnership with The I-95 Corridor Coalition and provides a national version of a site, managed by INRIX, currently in use by dozens of agencies and hundreds of agency employees and contractors along the eastern seaboard. INRIXTraffic.US is open to all public employees - and their onsite contractors - who manage any part of the nation's road network.
