The Newark Digital Empowerment Summit Hosted by the Alliance for Digital Equality is a Success
Hundreds of New Jersey and New York residents attended the summit to learn about the impact that universal broadband access will have on education, jobs and wealth creation opportunities
NEWARK, N.J., April 23 -- Today, the Alliance for Digital Equality (ADE) hosted over three hundred area residents, elected officials, dignitaries and celebrities at the Newark Digital Empowerment Summit themed "Broadband: Closing the Economic Divide." The summit, which occurred at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, is the first of its kind in New Jersey. At the event, ADE Chair Julius H. Hollis unveiled a new agenda focusing on jobs, education and technology (the JET Agenda) paramount to achieving the full potential of universal broadband access. Panelists discussed the impact that universal broadband access will have on access to education, jobs and wealth creation opportunities.
Several powerful voices were heard during the summit including FCC Commissioner Mignon Clyburn, Newark Mayor Cory A. Booker, National Urban League President and CEO Marc Morial, Dr. Randall Pinkett and ADE Vice Chairman, former Mayor of Miami Manny Diaz. CNN Contributor Mario Armstrong, Actor, Author and Activist Hill Harper and Radio host Jacque Reid moderated the summit's panel discussions: "Jobs & Wealth," "The Wireless Broadband Revolution," and "The State of Broadband in Minority Communities."
In line with its mission, ADE hopes to help communities like Newark to understand the impact of broadband in their lives and local economy. "We live in a radically changing world and ultimately what makes us successful is how powerfully connected we are," said Newark Mayor Cory A. Booker. "We must ensure that every community has access to connectivity and we need to make sure that the jobs created from broadband are equally accessible. From Virtual classrooms to the implementation of new police crime-fighting technology, we are embracing a bold vision of America which is in the middle of a digital revolution."
Julius H. Hollis, ADE Chairman adds that, "Seldom in the history of our democracy, perhaps with the exception being the Industrial Revolution in the 19th century, have we witnessed a socio-economic phenomenon of this magnitude, which possesses a faster, innovative and more comprehensive ability to improve the quality of life for millions of Americans, as well as the potential to rectify the stark economic inequalities that exist between communities of color and their counterparts located in more affluent American communities."
"Altogether, 93 million Americans do not have broadband at home. And adoption rates are much lower among certain populations, including rural Americans, the elderly, persons with disabilities, low-income Americans, African Americans, and Hispanics. Among the 13 million children between the ages of 5 and 17 who do not have broadband at home, 6 million are either Hispanic or African American. These disparities won't just disappear over time if we sit back and do nothing," states FCC Commissioner Mignon Clyburn.
The Newark Digital Empowerment Summit occurred just weeks after the FCC released its National Broadband Plan, designed to deliver broadband access to every American. ADE's goal is to educate Americans about the benefits of new broadband technologies and be a voice of underserved communities to raise awareness of the importance of new technologies regardless of socioeconomic status.

Filter: CSI's Virtual Video Conference Launched 4/8!
Interactive Sessions Highlighted Security Solutions that Maintain Business Agility
NEW YORK, April 23 -- Filter: CSI's virtual video conference debuted on Thursday, April 8, 2010, and was greeted with enthusiasm from the global marketplace. Using cutting-edge technology that included streaming video, CSI connected a community of industry professionals, decision-makers and suppliers from the information security marketplace. Almost 45% of the 655 registered professionals actively participated over the course of the four hours of presentations.
"Our key goal was to provide a cutting-edge educational environment that supports our members' and attendees' goals of securing leading edge solutions and processes," said Robert Richardson, director of CSI. "It clearly was accomplished and we anticipate that 'Filter Events' will become a staple in our offerings."
This online event provided a forum for hundreds of IT Security professionals to participate and network globally. Registrants representing 49 countries expressed great satisfaction with the content and the method of presentation - describing it as "curve-wrecking", as well as "frightening reality", respectively. Bryan Hooke, president, B. Hooke & Associate furthered these sentiments by stating, "Conference was well organized, experts were well versed on their subjects and could clearly convey the key elements memorably. Very slick."
Lynda Martel, Director of Marketing with DriveSavers and one of Filter's key sponsors found the content "interesting and compelling". She was proud and pleased to participate in Filter's debut: "I applaud (CSI) on the event's content and speakers...the event generated 400 VERY qualified leads for DriveSavers - so again, kudos to the CSI Team!" Many of these comments were posted through the live Q&A and chat functions that supported interaction over the course of the event.
"From a Management perspective, it was exciting for the entire CSI Team to actually participate and be a part of the action and dialog in the conference room," commented Robert Richardson. "Collectively, we rarely get to experience this first-hand - and it was so gratifying when questions posted from one side of the world were answered immediately by an expert from the other side of the world! This is exactly the type of interchange we hoped would happen and it did!"
The video conference content allowed for questions to be fielded through an online chat/discussion viewed by all participants and also allowed attendees to privately ask questions of specific speakers - thus providing a free flow of questions and ideas with an element of privacy that is sometimes required. The conference program presented attendees with solutions and information that was "filtered down" (the genesis of "Filter"), thereby providing an exchange that was both cost and time-efficient. Conference content included:
-- The Risks of Business Agility
-- Data Breach Notification Laws: From California to Australia
-- Does Recovering the Data Abandon Your Security? Best Practices
-- Using Virtualization for Better Security
-- Clobbering the Cloud
-- Legal Issues in Multi-National Cloud Computing
-- Compliance in the Cloud
-- Social Media & Security
-- Nature & Security
-- Securing the Electronic Health Record: The Big Challenges
-- Don't Write Your Own Security Code: The OWASP Enterprise Security API
-- Agile Security: Necessity or Mission Impossible
-- How to Protect Against Smartphone Attacks
Seen as an optimal tool to support CSI's "live" and multi-day educational programming, Filter will continue to focus and offer condensed versions of technical information and solutions that are needed for maintaining business agility and continuity. CSI SX is scheduled for May 26-27, 2010 at San Francisco's Marriott Marquis; CSI Annual 2010 takes place October 25-29, 2010 at the Gaylord National Hotel & Convention Center right outside Washington D.C. Idol Fans & Twitterers Pave the Way in the Fight Against Malaria
*** Now You Can Tweet To Save a Life***
NEW YORK, April 23 -- On this week's American Idol "Idol Gives Back" episode, more than 20 million Americans tuned in to help raise almost $45 million for causes around the world. Malaria was one of them, and donations toward the cause are expected to climb in the days leading up to World Malaria Day on April 25.
Beginning today to honor World Malaria Day on Sunday, Malaria No More, the Case Foundation and Twitter are launching "End Malaria," an effort geared to activate tweets from all over the world to help end malaria deaths in Africa. Mosquito nets save lives, and now, so do tweets.
Every thirty seconds a child dies from malaria in Africa. However, malaria is a completely preventable and treatable disease.
To show your support, please visit Hope140.org/EndMalaria and:
-- Retweet this message from @MalariaNoMore to make a $10 donation: RT:
Malaria kills a child every 30 secs. Nets #endmalaria. So do RTs.
RT2Give $10 http://rt2give.com/t/425
-- If you already have an account on RT2Give, you'll receive a direct
message asking for confirmation. If you don't have an account,
Twitpay will send you an @reply message with simple instructions
on how to enroll.
-- Text 'NET' to 85944 to make a $10 donation to Malaria No More
-- A $10 donation will be charged to your mobile phone bill.
Messaging and data rates may apply.
-- Add hashtag(s) #endmalaria, #malaria, #malariaday and/or
#worldmalariaday to your tweets and the hashtags will trigger the
addition of clickable mosquito icons to the tweet that will take you
to Hope140.org/EndMalaria
To further promote positive change through Twitter, the Case Foundation is matching each $10 donation up to $25,000 made through Twitpay's RT2Give service and text-to-give, giving Twitterers and texters the power to double their efforts to end malaria deaths in Africa.
"Through a donation platform that enables people to move from activism to action, the End Malaria campaign takes a transformative next step in leveraging the power of Twitter to raise both awareness and important funding," said Jean Case, CEO of the Case Foundation. "Malaria No More and Twitter have already proven the power of social media to ignite awareness, and the Case Foundation is honored to be a part of this important initiative."
The "End Malaria" effort is an extension of last year's World Malaria Day Twitter challenge between Ashton Kutcher and CNN for a race to 1 million followers. Kutcher's pledge of $100,000 to Malaria No More catapulted him to success and helped provide Senegal with 89,724 life-saving mosquito nets.
"Malaria has finally met its match in this partnership between Malaria No More, the Case Foundation and Twitter," said Scott Case, CEO of Malaria No More. "We know for a fact that tweets can translate into nets, and two villages in Senegal are living proof of that."
This is the second time Twitter has tweaked its tweets for a cause. The first time was to honor World AIDS Day last December by turning tweets red for the RED campaign, which became the most retweeted initiative at the time.
"The difference between life and death can come down to a $10 bed net," said Twitter co-founder Biz Stone. "The simple act of tweeting both donates to and promotes the important work of Malaria No More. By matching these donations, the Case Foundation transforms our tweets into a powerful force for good."
Campaign details, Twitpay tweets and donation tracking are available at Hope140.org/EndMalaria.

Coalition Launches New Campaign to Fight Loan Modification Scams
Website Includes Form for Reporting Fraud and Database Listing Scammers
WASHINGTON, April 23 -- The Loan Modification Scam Prevention Network, led by Fannie Mae (NYSE:FNM), Freddie Mac, the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and NeighborWorks America, today announced a national campaign to prevent loan modification scams through public education, complaint reporting and coordination with local, state, and federal enforcement agencies.
As part of the campaign, the Network has launched a consumer-friendly Website, http://www.PreventLoanScams.org, which is designed to support national, state and local law enforcement efforts. The Website serves as a nationwide clearinghouse and destination for loan modification scam information on complaints filed, laws and regulations, and enforcement actions.
The Website includes:
-- An electronic complaint form that can be filled out easily by an
individual who has been scammed or by counselors or friends helping a
victim of fraud;
-- Names of individuals and organizations who have been identified by
enforcement agencies to have allegedly committed a loan modification
scam;
-- Information on how to avoid a loan modification scam;
-- State-by-state information about rules, regulations and resources
available to homeowners; and
-- News and information on enforcement efforts.
Homeowners who believe they may have been a victim of a loan modification scam, can also call the Homeowners Hope Hotline at 888-995-HOPE to log a complaint and to receive free foreclosure prevention counseling.
"We've joined forces with government agencies and other industry leaders to help fight loan scams across the country," said Jeff Hayward, Senior Vice President, Fannie Mae. "This effort links homeowners to free, legitimate counseling and helps to put scammers out of business. The goal of this campaign is to educate homeowners and empower those who have fallen victim to scammers to report and prevent future fraud."
"By working together we can help the public identify alleged loan modification scam artists, learn how these scams work, and give them a new way to fight mortgage fraud," said Senior Vice President Hollis McLoughlin, Freddie Mac. "The Network's new website form will enable citizens to report fraud artists to law enforcement agencies before other borrowers are swindled out of their homes."
Loan modification scams are schemes in which people take advantage of vulnerable homeowners. Scammers prey on homeowners in distress by guaranteeing to help the homeowner obtain a modification of their mortgage to save their home. Frequently, the borrowers pay money up front but receive no help at all and their home is lost to foreclosure.
"Receiving complaints about loan modification scammers throughout the country is crucial to supporting enforcement efforts," said Joseph Rich of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. "By encouraging homeowners to take action and report fraud to the Loan Modification Scam Prevention Network, we hope to help federal, state and local enforcement officials bring actions against scammers."
"We're pleased to be a part of this coalition, which complements and supports our ongoing efforts to educate consumers about the warning signs of loan fraud," said Marietta Rodriguez of NeighborWorks America. "We want homeowners to know they have a place to turn to if they think they are being scammed."
"It's a real shame to hear stories from consumers who are already financially struggling and who learn they have paid large amounts of money, unwittingly, to a loan modification scam organization," said Josh Fuhrman, Vice President for Programs of the Homeownership Preservation Foundation.

Seo-Console.com Merges Contextual Ads and Textual Link Ads Into One Format
EINDHOVEN, The Nederlands, April 23, 2010-- An innovative concept of merging different types of online advertisements
into one format has been realized by the portal http://www.seo-console.com.
The new ad format, named Digest-Based Ads (DBA), provides the online
advertisers with a powerful instrumentation to reach multiple marketing
targets at once and with a low cost.
The high-tech lab IVRA, located in the 'Silicon Valley of Europe' has
released a principally new service for online promotion and marketing,
available on its website http://www.seo-console.com. The service allows
online advertisers promoting their online business/product by placing the
Digest-Based Ads on such Internet resources which theme/niche coincides with
the niche of the promoted business.
The achieved niche-match between the promoted product and publishing
websites is not the only advantage of the http://www.seo-console.com service.
The second benefit is brought by the nature of the DBA format. Opposite to
the Google AdWords and Yahoo! Advertising platforms, which allow only short
texts in their ads, the format of a Digest-Based Ads allows placing a digest
(mini-article) containing a title as a direct link to the promoted website
and a few descriptive sentences in a post-title description. This attracts
more attention from the visitors of publishing websites, since the
information in such DBA is readable and informative.
As a result, via DBA placements, an advertiser obtains multiple benefits
at the same time: (a) publicity ('I read about this somewhere in net'), (b)
bringing thematically involved visitors onto his business website from the
publishing websites, and (c) better website ranking in major search engines,
due to the direct link in the DBA title, where the good ranking brings even
more targeted visitors from the organic search results.
The owners of the publishing websites admitted to the network that, among
valuable website monetization, they also obtained additional content for their
websites, because the digests are placed on their webpages on a long-term
basis.

Promptu's ShoutOUT for Android(TM) offers hands-free texting capability, transcribing messages dictated in natural speech; first version of ShoutOUT to feature text message voice addressing
MENLO PARK, Calif., April 23 -- ShoutOUT, Promptu Systems Corporation's free speech recognition app that lets users compose text messages in natural speech instead of typing, is available for the Motorola Droid(TM) in the Android Market.
No other Android speech recognition app used for text messaging - including Google Voice functionality in Android 2.1 - comes close to the accuracy of ShoutOUT, which is fully integrated with the Android SMS client and uses Smartword, Promptu's editing tool that lets users see and select from likely word alternatives.
But what advances the Motorola Droid(TM) version of ShoutOUT close to Promptu's vision for totally hands-free messaging, is its ability to use voice commands to address text messages.
"ShoutOUT is great for texting on the go when you don't have two free hands for typing - it's much more intuitive and natural than the awkward process of typing on a phone," said Giuseppe Staffaroni, Promptu's CEO.
All Promptu applications are built on state-of-the-art speech recognition technology and are recognized in the industry for extremely high accuracy rates. To maximize accuracy for ShoutOUT, a personalized acoustic model is assigned for every user during the app's registration process. Promptu's ShoutOUT for iPhone, released in late December 2009, continues to receive strong reviews.
ShoutOUT's speech recognition is server-based, and 100-percent automated. All message transcriptions that appear on users' phones are created with no human intervention whatsoever, so privacy is guaranteed.
ShoutOUT standard features include:
-- Voice Addressing
-- Full integration into the phone's messaging service
-- Message exchanges threaded by recipient
-- Thumbnail images for contacts
-- One-touch navigation to all recent incoming and outgoing messages
By using voice as the interface, ShoutOUT is the most intuitive and natural alternative to the awkward process of entering text on a mobile phone.
The Motorola Droid(TM) version of ShoutOUT will be available on Monday, April 26 in the Android Market.
About Promptu
Promptu Systems Corporation is at the tipping point of a mobile revolution fueled by Voice User Interface (VUI) applications - the most intuitive and natural way to interact with a phone. Created for consumers, carriers, and handset providers, Promptu applications run on the company's fully automated Network Speech Recognition (NSR(TM)) platform to ensure accuracy, speed, privacy, and scalability. Promptu applications can be optimized for regional accents, and support real-time review and editing of transcribed text. Every day thousands of Promptu applications are downloaded worldwide. WISeKey Announce New Services and Solutions for Latin America at MIT
GENEVA and CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts, April 23, 2010-- Carlos Moreira, Chairman and Founder of WISeKey, is to unveil his vision
and plans towards the region in an address to a selected audience of over 500
entrepreneurs and members of the science community in New England during the
traditional MIT Latin Conference to be held this week-end in Cambridge,
Massachusetts.
Carlos Moreira will debate some of these initiatives with MIT's Media Lab
Scholars and MIT Sloan School of Management's Dean, David Schmittlein, at the
opening of the Conference.
WISeKey, a World Economic Forum High Growth Company, is to present its
deployment plan to provide Trusted Digital Identities and Secure Cloud
Services to Spanish and Portuguese-speaking populations in Latin America and
the US. WISeKey is a world leader in solutions designed to digital
identification, secure electronic transactions and cloud computing.
The first e-security company in the world to offer decentralized Trust
Models and PKI architecture, WISeKey allows ecosystems to be federated via a
linguistic attribute that makes them interact while maintaining local
traditions and languages.
Gone are the days of huge centralized clouds and ID metasystems with no
respect to local traditions, languages and national boundaries.
During his presentation, Moreira will provide an overview of the Latin
American Digital Identification and Trusted cloud computing landscape. He
will have a particular focus on how Latin American ecosystems can leverage
cloud utilization at local and national levels, allowing them to improve the
interconnectivity among Spanish and Portuguese-speaking populations, which is
now the third largest language group on earth.
This also includes the US, where over 44 million Spanish-speakers reside
- with that number expected to surpass 100 million by 2050 according to the
US Census.
Generally speaking, English is the universal language on the Internet and
cloud computing. But the use of only one language tends to polarize the world
into Internet users and Internet illiterates, and to exclude huge populations
from the benefits of these technologies.
The position of English on the building of cloud services can only be
altered by major world-scale political and economic changes, such as
increasing importance of Spanish and Portuguese-speaking communities and
ecosystems that might wish and be able to promote another language than
English. Developing localized ID services and cloud computing in Spanish and
Portuguese will reduce the cost of the cloud technology.
Cloud computing is relatively new, but rapidly growing in Latin America.
WISeKey is assisting some local providers in leveraging their data centers,
increasing their security and trust models, and adding digital identification
technologies to provide trusted secure services to their client maintaining
their linguistic neutrality.
Carlos Moreira is also to detail at the MIT Latin Conference WISeKey's
enhanced presence in the region. The primary focus will be in partnering up
with local companies and governments in the establishment of technology
transactional hubs, which provide the required platform for the industrial
development of technologies, local R&D and applications for firms, the public
sector and individuals.
WISeKey Brazil was recently established in partnership with the
Brasilinvest Group. The name of its new CEO, who will also share
responsibilities for expanding operations to other Latin American countries,
is to be announced in the next few weeks.

It will provide all the services and products that consumers can already find on all existing language versions of LightInTheBox.com - electronics, health & beauty, home & garden, and most importantly, clothing & apparel ( http://www.lightinthebox.com/it/wholesale-moda_c71 ), the most popular category of all time.
To celebrate the launch, LightInTheBox.com will be having special offers and deals only for their Italian-speaking customers.
CEO of LightInTheBox.com, Alan Guo, said that, "it's an exciting opportunity for us to move into the Italian-speaking market. We have had much success in other European countries, but we believe that our attention to the specific needs and wants of our Italian customers will allow us to establish a long lasting relationship together."
LightInTheBox.com will be up against popular Italian ecommerce websites. The competition in the consumer electronics sector ( http://www.lightinthebox.com/it/wholesale-elettronica_c2619 ) is particularly fierce, with well-known players such as Redcoon.it, Expansys.it and Essedi.it.

RFS Unveils HYBRIFLEX, the World's First Lightweight Aluminum Hybrid Feeder Cabling Solution for Remote Radio Heads
COLOMBES, France, April 22, 2010-- With HYBRIFLEX, its revolutionary new RRH hybrid feeder
cabling solution, Radio Frequency Systems (RFS), the global wireless and
broadcast infrastructure specialist, becomes the first company to combine
optical fiber and DC power for Remote Radio Heads (RRHs) in a single
lightweight aluminum corrugated cable. RFS' patented solution enables the
cabling expenditure reductions, ease-of-installation and operational
efficiency mobile operators need to evolve their networks while limiting
their power consumption and carbon footprint at cellular sites.
Upgrading technology, reducing operating expenditures (OPEX)
and decreasing CO2 emissions at cellular sites are constant challenges for
operators around the globe. As part of their efforts, many operators are
deploying a distributed base station architecture where RRHs are installed
next to the antenna on the tower or rooftop rather than deploying old-style
macro base stations. Installing RRHs close to antennas reduces costs by
cutting power consumption - typically in half - but means RF transmission,
power and grounding cables must all be brought to the RRH on the tower or
rooftop.
Recognizing operators' challenges, RFS developed HYBRIFLEX,
which allows operators to connect up to three sectors with a single composite
optical fiber and power cable with the grounding function incorporated
directly in the cable.
"RFS' innovative single-cable architecture allows operators to
reduce the number of RRH cables required from nine to one," explains Marc
Kaeumle, Vice President, RF Transmission and Distribution at RFS. "Along with
decreasing the load on the tower or rooftop, HYBRIFLEX dramatically
simplifies and cuts the cost of installation while enabling significant
savings. For example, installation of stripped fiber optic cable pairs
directly to the RRH eliminates the need for expensive junction boxes and
limits wind load. In addition, by enabling simple, flexible and
cost-effective deployment of RRHs close to antennas, HYBRIFLEX helps
operators reduce power consumption at their cellular sites - an important
step toward achieving their CO2 reduction objectives," concludes Kaeumle.
HYBRIFLEX's unique design and structure offer additional
important benefits:
- To simplify inventory management of cable accessories,
HYBRIFLEX is designed according to standard RF feeder diameter. This
means commonly available RFS CELLFLEX LCF 1/2-inch and LCF 7/8-inch
feeder accessories can be used in all HYBRIFLEX installations.
- For maximum flexibility, HYBRIFLEX can be connectorized
on-site. Alternatively, pre-connectorized solutions and services are
available to help standardize the RRH cabling process.
- To ensure an extremely lightweight cable, the armor is
aluminum. Aluminum also offers the fragile fiber optic cables inside
more protection than polyethylene tubes and at a much lower cost than
cable trays.
Incorporating the grounding function, which is critical to
RRHs, also eliminates the need for and cost of cable grounding.
Trademarks: Radio Frequency Systems(R), RFS(R) and CELLFLEX(R)
are registered trademarks and HYBRIFLEX(TM) is a trademark of Radio Frequency
Systems. All other trademarks are the property of their respective owners.

Novellus Develops Precision Anti-Reflective Layers That Enable Critical Dimension Control Strategies for Sub-32nm Lithography
New VECTOR(R) PECVD Process Deposits Patterning Layers With 4X Less Wafer-To-Wafer Variability As Compared To Single Station Deposition Architectures
SAN JOSE, Calif., April 22 -- Novellus Systems (NASDAQ:NVLS) announced today that it has developed precision anti-reflective layer (ARL) patterning films on its VECTOR PECVD platform with less than 2 angstroms wafer-to-wafer thickness variability. The new process technology utilizes VECTOR's multi-station sequential processing (MSSP®) architecture to deposit ARL films with ultra-uniform film thickness, refractive index (n), and extinction coefficient (k). The properties of these new films exceed the requirements of sub-32nm lithography and are significantly superior to similar films deposited using a side-by-side single station-like deposition architecture.
Control of critical dimension (CD) variation is essential for 32nm lithography and beyond. The 2009 International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors (ITRS) recommends less than 1nm total CD variation to ensure the functionality of ultra-high performance circuits. Advanced lithography CD control tools such as high-end phase-shift masks with complex optical proximity correction have become extremely expensive to implement in order to achieve the tight CD control required for 32nm device manufacturing. An effective, less expensive lithography technique used to control variability is called dose compensation, where the exposure dose is adjusted using a software algorithm for a specific area on the wafer. To ensure proper performance, dose compensation strategies require predictable anti-reflective layer thickness and optical properties for each incoming wafer.
Novellus engineers have developed a new ARL process technology on the VECTOR platform that provides the ultra-uniform wafer-to-wafer performance required to employ these dose compensation control strategies. The new process technology is coupled with the VECTOR's angular placement accuracy of less than 0.3 mm to ensure the predictable film properties required for sub-32nm lithography. Figure 1 shows ARL film thickness profiles for wafers processed on a VECTOR with MSSP and those deposited using a side-by-side single station-like deposition. The film thickness maps for the VECTOR ARL films show low within-wafer and wafer-to-wafer variability, with a predictable profile for each wafer. In contrast, the ARL films deposited on the single station-like architecture have large wafer-to-wafer variation, which can compromise a dose compensation control strategy.
Figure 2 further quantifies the low wafer-to-wafer variation obtainable using Novellus' new ARL process technology. The plot shows the normalized ARL thickness for a single measurement point on a wafer, measured over a 300 wafer run. Novellus' ARL process has a point-to-point thickness variation of 1.6 angstroms, or 0.34 percent of full range. The side-by-side single station-like deposition has a thickness variation of 7.3 angstroms (1.5 percent of full range), more than 4X that of the Novellus process. Factoring in the inherent bimodality of the side-by-side single station-like deposition, this variation may become too great to effectively employ dose compensation for CD control.
"The new generation of precision ARL films developed for the VECTOR platform have ultra-uniform thickness and optical properties that are essential for CD control at advanced technology nodes," said Kevin Jennings, senior vice president of Novellus' PECVD business unit. "As dual and triple-layer PECVD ARL films are employed for reflectivity control, VECTOR's inherent process control will enable the efficient use of feed-back and feed-forward CD control solutions."
Novellus' PECVD films deposited using VECTOR's multi-station sequential processing result in unparalleled wafer-to-wafer and point-to-point repeatability. This satisfies the variability needs of next generation technology for all films, in particular for optical films with tightly controlled lithography specifications. The industry-leading capability of VECTOR has resulted in the placement of over 1000 systems in 70 manufacturing facilities worldwide, processing over one million wafers a day.

Netreo's Virtualization Visualizer Brings Pain-Free Management and Real-World Performance Monitoring to Virtualized Environments
IRVINE, Calif., April 22 -- Driving a virtualized environment to its maximum potential requires both careful server management and deep insight into key areas of system operation. Virtualization Visualizer (V2), Netreo's new capacity-planning and performance management software, provides an array of easy-to-use tools and resources that allow IT departments to immediately begin extracting the greatest possible ROI out of their virtualized environments.
Real-time dashboards, alerts and historical reports about clusters, resource pools, host systems, guests and applications give V2 users instant, meaningful insight into their virtualized environment's real-world performance while providing the capacity-planning ability that's vital to creating a fully virtualized environment.
V2 enables IT departments to move beyond the "low-hanging fruit" stage to find the many cost-saving opportunities that lie hidden on critical high-utilization servers. "Getting started with virtualization is easy, but converting vital production applications to a virtualized environment is far more challenging," says Andrew Anderson, Netreo's Chief Operations Officer. "V2 lets users take virtualization to the next level without creating I/O bottlenecks or falling into other performance-robbing pitfalls."
V2 effectively caps server sprawl by enabling IT managers and server administrators to view precisely which applications and guests are using cluster resources. The software then lets users identify resource functions and determine who provisioned or requested them. V2 also allows underutilized and over-configured systems to be quickly pinpointed and brought under control. Orphaned guests, meanwhile, can be rapidly spotted and configurations immediately adjusted in order to fine-tune and optimize performance.
Eliminating the need to deploy costly probes or unwieldy, time-wasting agent software, V2 requires virtually no administration and discovers the virtual environment automatically. Users begin receiving crucial data and reports immediately, without first conducting lengthy and expensive configuration or implementation projects.
Provided as a virtual appliance, V2 integrates quickly and easily into any VMWare ESX or vSphere environment with VMWare's Virtual Center. To learn more about V2 and how it can help your enterprise reach the next stage of virtualization, visit http://www.netreo.net/products/v2

"IDEO was pleased to collaborate with Sappi in the development of their eQ Tool. This strategic design work demonstrates how a complex organization can effectively communicate their holistic values and activities with regards to sustainability. To understand and affect the environmental impact of print, one must take a systems approach. The eQ Tool provides stakeholders with the foundation to engage with the broader environmental considerations when choosing a paper supplier," said Beto Lopez, Design Director of Sustainability, IDEO.

New deal-of-the-week feature will make eldercare products more affordable to caregivers.
SAN MATEO, Calif., April 22 -- Caring.com is making it more affordable for caregivers to get the products they need, at the prices they can afford, through its new "50+ Club." Beginning today, members can sign up for the new deal-of-the-week program, which will offer product information and special pricing at 50 percent or more off retail for a variety of eldercare products that have been proven to help make caregiving easier.
Caring for an aging parent or loved one is a life stage when consumers need specific products that can make life easier for both the caregiver and the person they're caring for. The average person caring for an aging parent spends $5,534 per year in out-of-pocket expenses for items such as medications, safety equipment, and daily living necessities, making it difficult for caregivers to be able to afford the products they need for themselves or their loved ones.
"Deal-of-the-day websites have become popular among consumers, because they offer special promotions for what to do, eat, see, or buy in top cities around the world," said Evan Liang, Vice President of Product, Caring.com. "Caring.com is tapping into this popular trend and tailoring it to fit the needs of caregivers by making products that can help them care for a loved one more affordably, without breaking the bank."
By negotiating with retailers on behalf of its entire community base, Caring.com is able to offer special rates for popular eldercare products for one week, or while the retailer has inventory in stock. To launch this program, Caring has partnered with firstSTREET, the leading direct marketer for products targeting boomers and beyond. Products will span a variety of categories, with an emphasis on those most highly rated by other caregivers for helping loved ones living independently, with family members, in assisted living, in long-term care, or in senior living communities.
Initially, products will be picked by Caring.com, but beginning in May, products will be selected by the Caring.com community.
"There's no greater seal of approval to a caregiver than positive recommendations from others who are caring for aging loved ones. We hope members will help the 50+ Club grow and become another way for Caring.com to provide caregivers with the information and resources they need while caring for an aging loved one," said Andy Cohen, CEO and Co-Founder, Caring.com.

Panasonic and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment Partner on AVATAR Blu-ray Disc and DVD Launch
Purchase of 2010 Panasonic Blu-ray Disc Player or Home Theater System and AVATAR on Blu-ray Disc Gives Consumers $25 Rebate James Cameron's AVATAR Arrives In Stores on Blu-ray Disc Today
SECAUCUS, N.J., April 22 -- Panasonic, a leader in Blu-ray Disc technology, announced today an exclusive agreement with Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment on a promotion celebrating the release of James Cameron's epic movie, AVATAR, on Blu-ray Disc(TM) and DVD. This will offer consumers a $25.00 rebate with the purchase of a 2010 Panasonic Blu-ray Disc player or entertainment system as well as AVATAR on either DVD or Blu-ray Disc.
The promotion, which begins today nationwide(1), is a mail-in offer which gives consumers a $25.00 cash rebate. Panasonic Blu-ray Disc player and entertainment systems included in the promotion include the DMP-BD45, DMP-BD65, DMP-BD85, DMP-B100, DMP-B500, SC-BT230, SC-BT330, and the SC-BT730.
Panasonic Hollywood Labs, a leader in authoring and encoding Hollywood theatrical releases to Blu-ray and DVD format, authored the AVATAR Blu-ray and DVD releases.
Panasonic has a long history of involvement with AVATAR, collaborating with Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation and Lightstorm Entertainment on the global promotion of AVATAR as the film's exclusive audio visual partner. As part of that relationship, Panasonic provided the production with its latest AV technology products.
Since its global theatrical release last December, AVATAR has continued to make motion picture history. Written by James Cameron and produced with his long-time collaborator Jon Landau, AVATAR stars include Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Wes Studi and Laz Alonso. The Oscar® and Golden Globe® winning epic is the highest grossing film of all time, taking in over $2.7 billion in worldwide box office.
Director James Cameron takes audiences to a spectacular world beyond imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on a journey of redemption and discovery as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization. AVATAR delivers a fully-immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film disappears into the emotion of the characters and the epic nature of the story.
Panasonic also supported the big-screen release of the film by launching a global advertising campaign in December 2009 tied to AVATAR and promoting numerous Panasonic AV products, including Panasonic's award-winning Full HD 3D Home Theater Systems which debuted in March 2010. Panasonic's Full HD 3D Home Theater System was among the first to be certified under the new Blu-ray Disc Association(2) (BDA) 3D standard.
"Panasonic is proud to be a partner with Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and to have played a part in the big-screen launch of AVATAR and its tremendous success worldwide through our technological and promotional contributions," said Bob Perry, Senior Vice President, Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company. "We are equally proud to work with Fox on the next step in the AVATAR legacy by helping to promote the launch of AVATAR on Blu-ray and DVD. AVATAR is perhaps the purest example of the tremendous benefits of Blu-ray Disc movies which allow consumers to enjoy stunning Full HD, true-to-life imagery as the movie creators intended it to look."
"There are millions of households with high definition TVs that are ready for the high definition Blu-ray experience," said Mike Dunn, President Worldwide, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. "AVATAR will be their first Blu-ray purchase, and Panasonic will be their first Blu-ray player."
Based in Secaucus, N.J., Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company (PCEC), a market and technology leader in High Definition television, is a Division of Panasonic Corporation of North America, the principal North American subsidiary of Panasonic Corporation (NYSE:PC) and the hub of Panasonic's U.S. marketing, sales, service and R&D operations. Panasonic is pledged to practice prudent, sustainable use of the earth's natural resources and protect our environment through the company's Eco Ideas programs. Students From Earthquake-Ravaged Haiti to Receive Scholarships From Purdue and the Voila Foundation
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind., April 22 -- Two students from Haiti will receive scholarships to study earth science at Purdue University as part of a long-term effort to educate the next generation of scientists about the earthquake hazards faced by that nation.
Purdue and the Voila Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, are partnering to fund three years of graduate study for two students selected by a committee from the State University of Haiti. The students will begin their studies this fall.
"The devastating earthquake on Jan. 12 underscored the importance of academic research in evaluating the potential for hazardous events and in providing the critical information needed to properly prepare and prevent the tragic loss of lives," Purdue President France A. Cordova said. "The students benefiting from these scholarships will be empowered with the knowledge they need to return home with the expertise to make a difference in the future of their country."
Purdue is providing two three-year graduate tuition scholarships. The Voila Foundation is providing each student with $25,000 per year for three years - for a total of $150,000 - to cover travel and cost of living as well as additional expenses for research.
The students will study under Eric Calais, the Purdue professor of geophysics who has studied the Haitian faults since 1989 when he wrote his doctoral thesis on the Cap Haitien fault and first reported the risk for a major earthquake there in 2008. On Jan. 12 Haiti was struck by a magnitude 7 earthquake that caused massive destruction and killed more than 200,000 people.
"Unfortunately, earthquakes are not isolated events, and we need to take into account that the earthquake hazard in Haiti remains high," Calais said. "To reduce the risks we need to acquire scientific data to quantify the threat level and construct better buildings in the short term, but for a long-term impact we also need to create a local resource of experts in seismic hazards. We need to train Haitian students and build the country's capacity to deal with the scientific and technical aspects of earthquakes and the related risks."
The State University of Haiti does not offer an earth science degree but is working on developing a natural hazards curriculum, Calais said. The terms of the scholarship include an agreement by the students to return to Haiti for at least two years, and a next step in their careers could be teaching related courses at the university and doing research using the geological and geophysical data sets now being acquired in Haiti.
Bernard Fils-Aime, president of the Voila Foundation, said expertise in seismic hazards is a crucial need for the country and an area in which there had not historically been a large knowledge base.
"Education has always been a cornerstone of Voila's corporate social responsibility programs in Haiti," Fils-Aime said. "Through our partnership with Purdue, we hope to build a foundation for future Haitian seismologists, deepening the next generation's understanding of the geophysical conditions of Haiti and the ongoing risks the nation faces. These scholarships could lead to the first Haitian seismologist or earthquake engineer."
Priority will be given to graduates from the State University of Haiti with a science background who are interested in studying geophysics and earthquake science related to Haiti.
About the Voila Foundation
For over a decade, Voila, one of Haiti's leading wireless communications service providers, has been committed to improving the lives of the Haitian people through youth and education initiatives supported by the Voila Foundation, now an independent 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity in the United States. In December 2009, Voila and parent company, Trilogy International Partners, based in Bellevue, Wash., received the prestigious "Award for Corporate Excellence" from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in recognition of Voila's record of corporate social responsibility in Haiti. Following the tragic earthquake on Jan. 12, Voila and Trilogy, through the Voila Foundation, will fund initiatives that provide immediate relief to the homeless and injured and to underwrite programs that will deliver lasting social benefits.
