»SCO Goes Private

It is amazing that there are stupid investors that invest in a company like SCO. Some investor sunk $100 million into SCO to take it private. And it is still in Chapter 11 AND is is still going to try to sue Novell.

Quote

"This significant financial backing is positive news for SCO's customers, partners and resellers who continue to request upgrades and rely upon SCO's UNIX services to drive their business forward," he said. According to a statement from the company, SNCP already has a business plan for SCO that includes pursuing its legal claims. SCO has been locked in bitter legal battles with both IBM and Novell over Unix copyright issues. Those battles haven't gone all that well for the company recently.

»Harnessing The Power Of Movement

Piezoelectric is a great property of some materials. Just think, soon you'll be going about your daily life and charging your cell phone at the same time. Yeah, by your shirt!

Quote

In 2007 Zhong Lin Wang, a materials scientist at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, US, developed a generator composed of a forest of piezoelectric zinc oxide nanowires topped by a flat conductive plate. As the plate is pushed down, the wires bend, producing a voltage that induces current to flow into the plate. Now Wang has turned this idea into an electricity-generating thread, which he plans to weave into a fabric. His team figured out how to grow the nanowires on a strand of Kevlar fibre instead of a flat surface, so that the wires stick out from the fibre like the bristles on a pipe-cleaner.

»US To Authorize Spy Satellites On Own Citizens

I'm really appalled at what I'm hearing in the news. We are going to use our own satellites against us. This follows a report that the administration pushed a bill through that retroactively stops people from suing telecoms for ILLEGALLY wiretapping them. Hey America, 1984 called...

Quote

The charter and legal framework for an office within the Homeland Security Department that would use overhead and mapping imagery from existing satellites is in the final stage of completion, according to a department official who requested anonymity because the official was not authorized to speak publicly about it. The future of this program is likely to come up Wednesday when Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff goes to Capitol Hill to talk about his department's spending plan. Last fall, senior Democrats on the House Homeland Security Committee asked the department to put the program on hold until there was a clear legal framework of how the program would operate. This request came during an ongoing debate over the rules governing eavesdropping on phone calls and e-mails of suspected terrorists inside the United States.

The DHS is one of the worst bureaucracies we have. There is too much cruft in government. We need to have a much smaller government. Where are the true conservative Republicans when we need them? Bush is NOT a conservative in this regard.

»Soyo Topaz S 24\" LCD Monitor @ ASE Labs

Quote

SOYO was established in 1999 at the time when computer hardware was easy to list off in your head. Their Dragon series of motherboards were excellent and many enthusiasts employed their boards for computer builds. Today, SOYO is a vastly different company. Gone are the motherboards but SOYO has reinvented itself and now produces displays. They have a partnership with Honeywell for dual branding. Today, we are looking at the Topaz S 24" LCD Widescreen Monitor.

Thermaltake is a company that is very well know to the enthusiast computer builder community. They provide many great products including a line of heavy (as in weight) power supplies, modding, cooling, and cases. ThermalTake was founded in 1999 and has really grown every since. They have always put out good looking products and the SopranoRS 101 is no different. Let's take a closer look.

»Kingston SD2/8GB SDHC Card @ ASE Labs

Quote

The SD2/8GB is an 8GB Class 2 SDHC memory card. Class 2 means that the card writes at (a minimum) of 2MB/s. This is the lowest speed class you can get in SDHC. Don't let that stand in your way; this is an 8GB card after all. Kingston offers a lifetime warranty on all its memory products. You don't have to worry about it breaking, but if it does, you are covered.

enthusiasts know that water is inherently better than air when it comes to cooling our nuclear powered rigs. This is primarily due to water's capability to hold and transport more heat than air within the same volume of space. It is this property that has long allured users to take the plunge and stick water inside their machine regardless of the dangers. It is these same dangers that have kept water cooling on the fringe of mainstream acceptance. No one wants to deal with the reality of coming home to a dead machine only to realize the cause of the untimely demise was a leak in their water cooling loop. And so company after company has sought to solve this problem and devise a system so easy, a system so fool proof that it could rival the ease of air cooling while maintaining the benefits of water cooling. Not an easy feat to be sure. Enter Thermaltake, a company dedicated to cooling since 1999. With their vast amount of experience and R&D resources they stand ready to bri! ng water cooling to the mainstream.

Well, Thermaltake has a solution for people like me and maybe someone like you as well. The Blac X is an external way of linking any SATA drive, 2.5 or 3.5, to your computer. But unlike the traditional method of opening up an enclosure, mounting a drive and then closing it all back up, the Blac X doesn't use an enclosure. Confused? Yeah, I would be too. But read the review and we will clear it all up for you.

Organic molecules have been found for the first time on an exoplanet. The planet is way too hot to support any life as we know it.

Quote

Astronomers Mark Swain and Gautam Vasisht of Caltech in Pasadena, US, and Giovanna Tinetti of University College London, UK, used the Hubble Space Telescope to observe the giant planet HD 189733b, which is slightly more massive than Jupiter and lies 63 light years from Earth. Because the planet crosses the face of its parent star as seen from Earth, some starlight is periodically filtered through the planet's atmosphere, where different chemicals absorb particular wavelengths. The observations confirm an earlier tentative detection of water vapour and reveal the presence of methane gas.
