»French Fine Amazon Over Free Shipping

Leave it to the French to do something like this. They are suing Amazon over free shipping due to some archaic law about book prices.

Quote

No, it's not funny, but that's because it's not a joke. The Tribunal de Grande Instance (a French appeals court) in Versailles ruled back in December that Amazon was violating the country's 1981 Lang law with its free shipping offer. That law forbids booksellers from offering discounts of more than 5 percent off the list price, and Amazon was found to be exceeding that discount when the free shipping was factored in.

Sigma Luna Type-W Case Review @ HardwareLogic.com

Quote

"*What is it enthusiasts look for in their cases? Style and looks, or functionality at an affordable price point? Sigma attempts both with it's Luna lineup of aluminum mid-towers, aiming to win over the crowd with a fusion of stunning appearance and sleek yet practical design. All at a decent price point to boot. Is the Luna ready for prime time, or is it back to the drawing board? HardwareLogic has the intel on where the Luna stands."

Quote

The Kingwin Z1 external SATA hard drive enclosure sure was a battle for me to review. On the one hand, it looks absolutely gorgeous. Each color is rich and vibrant at the same time. The matted-brushed aluminum created a very nice effect but I was a little let down that there was no activity LED included. Performance wise, this enclosure is nothing to write home about. While not be a slug by any means, the 109.9mbps was nothing near the 192.8mbps of the AC Ryan TFX enclosure. Sure we tested that enclosure with a slightly faster Western Digital drive, but at almost 50% faster, there is something to be said for the external hard drive controller that is housed within.

For those that say no, the question may want to take a look at the Aerocool's newest cube case titled the M-40. Aerocool is fast becoming known as a company that is very innovative. That is the ExtremeEngine case. This company was one of the first to implement a larger than normal fan to a case. A fan that measures a whooping 25cm. The M-40 is just as cutting edge as it utilizes two halves to assemble the rig. Mixed with a black and red theme, the M-40 has a sort of dark look to it.

Today we have a new board from Foxconn who are always trying to push further into the motherboard sector. If you want to get ahead today, you have to be creative or reduce costs as much as possible without sacrificing features. Foxconn has been one of the first to give an X38 based motherboard both DDR2 and DDR3 support on the same board. In total you get four DDR2 memory slots which are coloured dark blue and yellow. Two light blue DDR3 memory slots are also included to allow you to upgrade to DDR3 later down the track if you so desire.

It combines hard and soft surfaces to make something that is a bit different and unique, but I found that it's not perfect, the pad itself is great but the construction is a bit lacking... So read on to learn what I found in my time with this product...

"For years ASRock has been regarded as very much a budget motherboard manufacturer, while over time they've begun to introduce motherboards with more enthusiast-level features and even products that are more overclocker-friendly. It wasn't until recently that they finally started offering Gigabit ethernet and IEEE-1394a Firewire on their motherboards, but this month with their 4Core1600P35-WiFi+ they have made another step forward showing that they are able to offer an economically-priced motherboard with Intel's P35 Chipset and even integrated 802.11g WiFi. We have our hands on the ASRock 4Core1600P35-WiFi+ for testing and we will be seeing how well this P35 creation performs on Linux."

»Sun Buys MySQL AB

Sun has purchased the company that head develops MySQL. Sun has been really pushing open source lately. I just hope that MySQL will continue to flourish under Sun. If not, PostgreSQL is a good alternative.

Quote

"Today's acquisition reaffirms Sun's position at the center of the global Web economy. Supporting our overall growth plan, acquiring MySQL amplifies our investments in the technologies demanded by those driving extreme growth and efficiency, from Internet media titans to the world's largest traditional enterprises," said Jonathan Schwartz, CEO and president, Sun Microsystems. "MySQL's employees and culture, along with its near ubiquity across the Web, make it an ideal fit with Sun's open approach to network innovation. And most importantly, this announcement boosts our investments into the communities at the heart of innovation on the Internet and of enterprises that rely on technology as a competitive weapon."

Seeing is believing... we'll see how Sun handles MySQL.

I'm still a bit upset by the fact that there's no cover system in cod 4. I dont understand why all the new fps's lack a cover system, at this point all fps's should have a cover system considering they're all trying to be as realistic as possible, at least put in a cover system for hardcore team deathmatch or somthing. However cod 4 is by far the best multiplayer fps out there for the time being imo. But to me all the new games are just holdovers for battlefield 3!

btw halo 3=hoppers cod 4=less hoppers so cod 4 wins in my book.

»KDE 4 Released

KDE 4 has been released for a few days now. You can see the announcement at kde.org. KDE 4 is really one of the shining moments of the Open Source community and this year will be very interesting.

Quote

The KDE 4 Desktop has gained some major new capabilities. The Plasma desktop shell offers a new desktop interface, including panel, menu and widgets on the desktop as well as a dashboard function. KWin, the KDE Window manager, now supports advanced graphical effects to ease interaction with your windows.

Lots of KDE Applications have seen improvements as well. Visual updates through vector-based artwork, changes in the underlying libraries, user interface enhancements, new features, even new applications -- you name it, KDE 4.0 has it. Okular, the new document viewer and Dolphin, the new file manager are only two applications that leverage KDE 4.0's new technologies.

I prefer them with smooth faces but I'm sure they know what they're doing. More pics on my myspace, I think I have a link in my profile. I've got the cheesiest smile in this pic, but that was on purpose anyway. I didn't want a serious photo.

Whether it's worth it? Depends if you gotta lot of time on your hands. I didn't think it was worth it because I spent $55 on Prophecies alone and I hardly have time to play these days (hell, even when I did have time, I didn't think it was all that fun either for the reasons mentioned above. I'm probably never going to touch another MMO, but if you're still looking for a one that's worth playing, good luck.
