From Thread: Ask.com Gives Us Privacy Old Wed Dec 12, 2007 6:43:01 AM

»Ask.com Gives Us Privacy

I've migrated to using Ask a few months ago. Not really because I liked them more than anyone else, but they seemed to be an alternative to the Google monster. I'm glad they're implementing this. It gives internet users the choice to browse the internet without being tracked.

Quote

"For those of us worrying about online privacy, Oakland-based Ask.com gives people the power to prevent their search from being deposited in data banks. The new privacy control, named “Ask Eraser” is scheduled to be unveiled on Tuesday. The new feature enables users to delete records of all future search queries from Ask.Com’s servers. "For people who are worried about search privacy, we let them take the issue off the table completely rather than dickering with questions about how long we'll store their search information or what we do with it," said Jim Lanzone, Ask.com's chief executive. The new feature comes as many people complain about search engines compiling records about their queries because the records could be subpoenaed or mined by advertisers."

»Solar System Is Dented

Voyager 2 found out that the solar system is dented. This is caused by the interstellar magnetic field. This makes sense.

Quote

NASA's Voyager 2 spacecraft has found that our solar system is not round but is "dented" by the local interstellar magnetic field of deep space, space experts said on Monday. The data was gathered by the craft on its 30-year journey into the edge of the solar system when it crossed into a sweeping region called the termination shock, they said. It showed that the southern hemisphere of the solar system's heliosphere is being pushed in or "dented."

»Canadian DMCA On Hold

It looks as though the Canadian government listens to its people. They have halted the introduction of this stupid bill for the time being. They received so many complaints about it.

Quote

Cory Doctorow, co-editor of influential technology blog Boing Boing and a former director of the Electronic Freedom Foundation advocacy, on Monday wrote that the government's plan is now in disarray. "Word is that the minister had no idea that this would be such a big deal for Canadians," he wrote. "Word is that the minister and his advisers are scrambling, rethinking the entire matter because of the public outcry."

Word is that America should take note of Canada. The government listens to their people instead of the large companies.

Anyone else watch this incredibly strange new show? I love it myself, but I'm a huge fan of Bryan Fuller's work (he also made Dead Like Me and Wonderfalls). I hope it lasts longer than his other, unfortunately fated shows.

For those who don't know, it's about a guy who can bring people back from the dead with a single touch - but if he touches them again they're dead for good. Additionally, if he brings someone back for more than a minute someone else needs to die to take their place (of equal type - a small animal's life will be exchanged with another small animal). As the pilot explains, he has been employed to use this ability to solve murders, but it gets more complicated when he brings his childhood love back to life. It's incredibly interesting and well worth watching. Check it out when you have the chance.

From Thread: Road Rage Old Sun Dec 9, 2007 11:53:41 PM
California has some of the worst drivers, I've found. Although I don't drive, I've been in the car while we've run into some god awful drivers. I recall one time on the way to my college way up on the worst hill ever when some guy who likely ran a red light nearly crashing into my mothers car as we turned to go up the hill. We both swerved when the guy decided a near-miss wasn't bad enough, he cut us off, stopped and got out of his car. Of course, we drove off up the hill (afraid he might do something) and he proceeded to tailgate us halfway up the hill before driving in the oncoming traffic's lane and then stopping dead in front of us =\ He got out ranting and raving and my mother had to call the police. Once they got there they were able to talk him into leaving us alone.

I suppose that's an anti-road rage story.
