Do you still have the Ubuntu disc, or a flash drive to make another one?

Michael: Jodie, how's my schedule look for today?
Jodie: You've got a conference and dinner party at the Japanese Embassy regarding wildlife protection.
Michael: Oh, yeah...sorry, but I'll have to cancel that. I'm heading out to save America!

There is a way to do this in Windows itself.

Wait, good question...

What bootloader are you using? GRUB or Windows?

Be ye very careful when doing so! I did that once and had to wipe my Windows install as well!

Yea, a friend of mine had the same issue. I'm pretty sure it's the GRUB bootloader, and i know if i just delete the linux partition in windows, when i restart it wont boot (as thats what happened to my friend)

Do you want to keep GRUB and just tell it to not boot Ubuntu?

Or do you want to wipe GRUB and totally use the Windows bootloader?

This depends on how you setup Ubuntu.

You'll need to boot into a recovery console and then type "fixmbr"...

That should remove grub and install the Windows bootloader only.

good stuff. it worked. now, do all distros of linux use such a pain in the rear bootloader? or is there one where i can just delete the partition and it be gone if i decide i don't want it anymore?

They pretty much use GRUB for a bootloader. Without GRUB, you'll need to modify the Windows bootloader to load Linux instead of Windows. GRUB can do everything, though. TECHNICALLY, you could have just told GRUB to load Windows and deleted the Linux partition and been done with it.

The Windows bootloader would present the same problem. Actually, it doesn't even bother with non-Windows OS installations, so you're SOL if you install Windows after Linux.

Win 7 was installed first as its what the gf uses. I plan on trying another distro of linux, i just wanted to know if i had to fix the bootloader again if i decided to take it off in the future. How do i tell GRUB to just load windows?

No, you can keep GRUB.

GRUB uses a file to keep track of what to do and what to offer to boot.

/boot/grub/menu.lst

Edit that file. You can change the "timeout" value to something low. Don't pick 0 if you want at least a second to press escape at the prompt.

Unhash the "hiddenmenu" to hide the selection.

Change the "default" to whatever boot your Windows is residing at or move it to the top of the boot menu.

http://makingtheswitch.wordpress.com/2007/04/29/changing-grub-boot-order-to-boot-windows-xp-before-ubuntu/ gives you an example file to explain better.
