Indeed. The ridges surrounding the cross when the disc is receded is just a terrible design idea. Furthermore, I'm also not particularly impressed by the "trick new patented design," because, seriously, why not just make it a cross design and leave it like that?

Does anyone really need this? They mentioned it was for people who needed more accuracy, like people into fighting games. Is anyone really that bad with the joysticks? I think this was a waste of time.
You can't play fighting games, especially not 2D ones, with analog sticks. It is still kind of a waste of time because they didn't appear to do a very good job redesigning it and it is about 4 years too late; but the D-Pad was by far the weakest element on the 360 controller, so improving isn't a problem. They just should have done it immediately rather than wait until 5 years after it came out.
