Without an exclusive there, Microsoft and Nintendo would gain the edge in game sales, since their games cost less than Sony's.

When things are all said and done, the most valuable piece of the pie at Sony is its video game division. They could very well put it up for sale. And who could be the potential buyer?
Microsoft.
That's right. I said it. Just think about it.
Who could benefit the most by purchasing Sony's video game division?
Microsoft.

You might say there's no way the U.S. government would allow such a thing. Anti-trust, you say.
Just remember who's running the government. A Microsoft takeover would be treated with the same kid gloves that created DaimlerChrysler.

But there's more! Want an HDMI cable? That'll be another $100 to $125. Now we're at $850 or so. You've got a Blu-ray player, so you'll want a few Blu-ray movies -- Sony titles only, of course. Buy six of them while you're at it! At an average list price of $25 each, we're talking another $150. That pushes our total price to an even $1,000.

The reason I'd say the next generation games are $60 and up? Development costs increase due to all the increased graphic details and realism. Compared to Pong, Gears of War or MGS4 takes a lot of manpower to create.
Sony charging $500 and $600 for the consoles? Blu-ray is to be blamed (360 uses DVD). Otherwise, the console would have been competitively priced, something Sony seems to have forgotten about, and will hurt sales till prices drop. Sony is betting everything on Blu-ray being a hit, which is why they decided to put it into the PS3, besides increased disc space.
There are a decent amount of people who bought their PC's to play hi-tech games with, so maybe the PS3 will appeal to them; if you think about it, $600 is a good price for a gaming computer. I think Sony should have included a mouse and keyboard with every PS3 based on the fact they're considering adding hardware upgrades to stay competitive with the PC technology, which means if you don't have the upgrade, certain new games won't be fully accessible.

Oh bullshit.

So you're saying Gears of War is possible on the regular Xbox, and this is only a high res 360 version?

Remember the Nintendo 64 cartridges cost $59.99? I remember Phantasy Star 2 for the Sega Genesis cost $79.99, in 1990. Waaay overpriced, I agree.

I will agree, $60 bucks per game is a lot of money to pay, but thankfully, new games like "Just Cause" is $49.99 on the 360 regular price.

Quite honestly, from what I've seen, other than the high-res stuff I've seen nothing that could not have been done on the original XBox, if only because nonone ever pushed the boundaries of that system like they did with the PS2 because MS dumped all support for it.

That was for a totally different reason. With the N64, Nintendo basically said STFU when developers complained that the cartridges were expensive, so they raised prices to compensate because the medium was mor expensive. Genny and SNES games were more expensive at the time because of the huge drop of the Japanese economy in 1989 all the way up to 2002, not to mention lack of a standard for game costs and the cartridge based games (Sega CD games cost considerably less on average, if I remember correctly).

Or TDU, which is only $40.
