Bah. I still need SP1 to run a multitude of games, so my normal computer will always use it.

I was under the impression that MS was to dump both XP SP1 and 2K simultaneously.

They stopped support for Win2k longer than that. I mean that I don't bother with updates for XP because I use Win2k. Microsoft still does support Win2k even though they don't say.
2014 is going to be a good year. More content, more streamlining. Be a part of history!
But updated products that do not support certain software peices are not better than outdated ones that do.

it's the pieces of software that don't support the updated systems most of the time.
If gcc is upgraded and gets stricter (this has happened numerous times in the last years), then the programs that won't compile on it probably don't because they're not standards-compliant. (i.e. a GNU C variation with features deprecated since gcc-2.96 instead of ANSI C or ISO C-99)
I understand that it is technically the software that doesn't support the OS; but if I want to sit down and play Sports Car GT, Interstate '76, Viper Racing or any similar games I have two choices.
1. Pull out my piece of shit Compaq computer running Windows 98SE (which really is not the most stable of OS's anyways) with a 3DFX Voodoo 3 3500 (which is not the most stable of graphics cards, and I really don't want my computer to go ablaze whilst I am using it).
2. Leave my most-used computer at Windows XP SP1 and play all of these games in stupidly high resolutions and framerates.

The thing is, Interstate '76 is still the best game in the entire genre. Viper Racing isn't far short, and niether is Sports Car GT.
