Debian or Xubuntu on powermac Tue Jun 12, 2007 5:27:02 AM#38929Perm Link
So I managed to get Linux to install on the G3 Powermac which in itself was a feat to accomplish. But it's not running right. I tried Debian and Ubuntu. I'm wondering if I need to try a lite version like Xubuntu. Any thoughts?
Debian is just not working at all, the system is there but Nautilus is unhappy. I think I'll have to go with the less resource intensive Xubuntu. Damn!
Debian is literally the system you choose it to be. You can practically build Xubuntu from it, and if you want to flat out switch to it, just open up synaptic and change your package mirrors to it.
With that mentioned, you can apt-get remove all the higher end packages and pick the ones you think are best. Debian has ppc kernel you might want to make sure you specify (again, you'll find it in synaptic--I don't have the package name itself for you to apt-get).
