Harry Potter movies Fri Apr 20, 2007 3:44:54 PM#37115Perm Link
So what do you all think of the Harry Potter movies? Are you going to see The Order of the Phoenix?
Frankly, except for the third movie, The Prisoner of Azkaban, I haven't been all that impressed. They have to leave so much out that it really doesn't make sense. For instance, they've so downplayed the role of Professor Snape, comletely wasting talented actor Alan Rickman in the process, and of course now in the last installment, Snape's turning into the key character.
I didn't know there were more movies to come? I think they are alright but to be honest I have only seen bits and pieces of them when my sons are watching them.
the first one is downright lousy, the newer ones are ok as films, not so much as HP films. I'm going to see all three..
It's a similar situation to the Lord Of The Rings: the books are way better, or, if you disagree, emphasize differently. Goblet-of-Fire-the-film, as an example, overdid the dragon scene. Lord of the Rings overdoes the war aspect in general.
I enjoyed the first one, but never got into it after that. I created too much of a world in my mind. To then see it on film and not live up to what I envisioned... well, it was just truly upsetting. So, I'll just stick with what I've created myself.
I am going to watch it. And this is not final installmesnt , there are more movies to come
Sorry, I misspoke. I didn't mean that this WAS the last installment. I meant that the movies have really backed themselves into a corner by not creating this character more subtly or fully so that WHEN the last installment comes along, they're screwed, because viewers who haven't read the HP books probably won't even remember who Snape is, much less why his motives are questioned by both the good guys and the bad guys.
I really obsessed over V for Vendetta for a while. Hugo Weaving has one hella sexy voice.
If Harry Potter dies in the seventh book I'm not gonna watch it in the movies. I will be watching the Order of the Phoenix just because I want to make sure they include the library scene between Ginny and Harry because omg if they don't the sixth movie is really gonna suck. Even with that scene everybody was like omgwtf when Harry started obsessing over suddenly sexy sis. <!--s51-->:3<!--/s51--> Even if it is the fourth rule of Best Friends: Thou must covet thy best friend's little sister.
I loved the first movie, but I hadn't read the books. Now that I've read the books, I consider the movies a form of fan-fiction. It makes it easier to handle when they leave out good stuff....like blowing up the fireplace at the Weasleys in GoF.....
I would have to agree that the movie that I seen did not live up to the book. I am still reading this series to my son so I have not gotten through the whole thing yet.
To be honest, I thought the 5th book sucked (especially after the awesome 4th one), and I thought the 4th movie was too dramatized, so I'll probably skip this one.
Michael: Jodie, how's my schedule look for today? Jodie: You've got a conference and dinner party at the Japanese Embassy regarding wildlife protection. Michael: Oh, yeah...sorry, but I'll have to cancel that. I'm heading out to save America!
