Bummed out... Old Fri Jun 29, 2007 10:10:34 AM #39582 Perm Link
This is the first summer I've worked as a freelancer, not in an office and I'm bummed about being able to see out my window in my own house and still having to sit at my desk and work. At least when I worked for other people, I was stuck at the office with other people. This bites.

As a freelancer, you have more control about WHEN you work, though. So that should help relieve some of the "bumminess" out of the situation, doesn't it? At least you can get up and go potty without everyone knowing where you went. Wink

Writing is fun. I used to do it a lot for the local paper, I'd review a lot of things.

That's really kind of funny because i see being able to look out my own window as one of the perks of working at home. But I also see the ability to write in my bathing suit at the side of my pool as a perk. It's all in how you look at it.

Yeah, that's MUCH better.

You could also probably call people at their offices.

Of course you could always go back to work in an office or do your writing at the library on a laptop.

You could get some fancy curtains. Just kidding! Smile

Is there any way you can work outside? That may help a little bit. Or perhaps you could work either just mornings or just evenings, so you have at least part of the day to enjoy the summer.

Why don`t you get some great posters. Of stuff you like or sports you like? I love my skiing posters above my computer.

Being a work at home pro you have to learn to make your space your own. First of all you are hurting yourself by accenting the negatives. Work at exploiting the positives and I guarantee your window homesickness will fade.

Make a special area of your home for your work office and go to 'work' everyday on time. Stay in the office unless you are on lunch break or something. It will feel more like work after that.

I do a little of both so I'm kind of fortunate...I get to go out and be a little social (but where I work it's not always a good thing, I work in a health food co-op and we get a lot of wonderfully rude and/or idiotic people) and then I come home and do a little work on the computer! The bad thing is I always feel really busy. But being busy is what keeps me from worrying about things and getting depressed.

You must save a lot of money on gas, mileage on your car, and car insurance is probably cheaper. You can eat at your desk, not have anyone look over your shoulder, listen to music or watch TV while you work. Yeah....... I feel really bad for you.........

I love being at home. I generally tend to do whatever my company needs at night at home. This way it saves the day for what I want to do. Yes, I would agree though dwell more on the positives and it might change your overall outlook.

I'm sure that moving from an office environment to a home environment can be a hard change for many people, though. I think it's just a matter of finding something, some system, that works for you. Smile

Ok ok, I surrender...you're all right Smile There are a whole lot more perks to working from home than negatives. I was having a bad day, trying to meet deadlines and having major brain cramps. On the whole I like being able to work in my pajamas, go to the bathroom when I want and not have to talk to people all day long.
