The Sans Digital MobileSTOR MS2UT+ is the latest model in the MobileSTOR line from Sans Digital. It adds a very helpful LCD screen for configuration and status. It is a welcome improvement over the previous model.
Hi Aaron, I have one, and I'm happy with it too . . . except for the fan noise and cooling. I have it in a quiet office / music listing room and I found the fan unbearable. Finally, I replaced the fan with a Sythe Mini Kaze, which is much quieter. I think the MS2UT+ would be about perfect if it had a quiet fan and some perforations in the case sides to improve ventilation. My WD 1Tb "Green" disks run at about 48F (according to the unit) under heavy use.
My conclusion is, a very useful review and a very good unit that functions fine as to data storage but could be better in sonics and cooling. However, it is hard to find any competitive units that are quiet, either. When I get another RAID enclosure, I think I'll look for one with an 80mm fan or larger, as they tend to be quieter.
Thanks for keeping us up to date with your impressions. I enjoy reading your reviews.
I'm sure you mean (or the unit meant) 48C which sounds a bit more reasonable. I have a fan that runs in my room for air quality (some crappy air purifier) so that masks a bunch of noise.
I still didn't find the unit loud, but that's subjective to the situation and I'm glad you gave additional insights.
How did you set up the unit (please say RAID1 or some SAFE setting)?
2014 is going to be a good year. More content, more streamlining. Be a part of history!
Yes, it's 48C or a bit higher. I have it set up as RAID 1 -- all my disk storage has RAID these days. Disks and RAID controllers have become very cheap, and let's face it, no disk lasts forever.
On the noise thing, sensitivity varies, all right. Still, I've never heard anyone complain that their computer was too quiet. Mine was built for me by an outfit specializing in quiet rigs. It is a pleasure to be able to listen to music on the stereo and not know whether the computer is running or not.
