I'm sure that anyone whos into ungrading their system is into modding their system as well. Wether or not they do is upto them, but i think it would be very educational if there was some sort of mod section for this site. True, there are lots of sites out there with modded cases and crap like that. What im talking about is how to's, walkthroughs, and unique projects. Literally thinking outside the box. Right now im working on modding a 286 case to run my epox board and my athlon. Truely a unique work of case art.
Anyone else have thoughts on the idea?
believe me, modding isnt cheap. but there are things you can do that add a unique touch to your case. ive put in windows in cases for less than 10 bux on a completly do it yourself basis. and they turned out better than what you get when you buy a premodded case. its all in how creative you can be with what you have
Modding doesnt have to be expensive, especially if you have relatives who have lots of power tools I'm working up ideas for an Invader Zim themed case right now to put a fileserver in. I'm going to buy a cheap case to start with, because I'll just be cutting it apart anyways. Maybe a cutout on the left side to go with the window, some paint. I think I might backlight the motherboard with a CCFL, but cut a hole in the mobo panel to mount it in, so it can shine through and backlight a cutout on the right panel, maybe some lettering like "ZIM" or something like that. I hope to keep the total cost for the case and lighting under a hundred bucks. I have a bunch of old stuff lying around for the server. P4 2.0, 845 mobo, SDRAM.
My comp: P4 2.4 @ 3.2, 1 gig PC3200, Abit IS-7, FX 5700 Ultra, 80+160 gig HDD.
My transportation: 93 Ford Bronco, 302, K&N filter, custom exhaust, shorty headers, 4 speed auto with shift kit, 2x10" Alpine subs, 400W amp, Pioneer deck, fuzzy dice.
Well, here ya go. I decided to go with a Gir theme, becuase Gir is the coolest. Here is a pict I drew in Paint. I kno its cheesy, but this is how I want the case to look. The color is still up for discussion, but I think the blue kinda works. So, let me know what you think.

First off, that design would make a sweet case. Secondly, that article about cheap case mods uses my old case. its the exact same case i did my first mods on. i went with an upside-down L shaped window with a 92mm blow hole in the lower left side of the side panel and a 92mm blowhole in the top of the case. After i was finished with the cuttings i painted the case red and black. ended up getting bored with my first case and sold it for 50 bux. considering how cheap the case was in the first place, i made some good cash.
