Sound Card Pt. 2 Tue Aug 17, 2004 6:58:14 PM#9699Perm Link
Okie dokie, so I decided to buy that nice new Audigy2 ZS I was talking about. So i come home from the store, pop out the old card, realize that I had the model wrong and it was a driver issue that cause my problems... go figgure... and then pop in and install the new sound card.
I was very very happy with the sound quality and all the neato features the card has. It even came with... GAMES! Yay for games, so I pop in and install the Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield that came with it and get ready to kill some terror-whores. This right here is about the point where I get angry. When the opening sequence starts up, guess what's missing??? THE SOUND WAS MISSING!!!!!! That's right kids, Any sound that has to be read from the CD-ROM is not present in the game. Now I figgured that i should just update my drivers and patch the game. I did that, and there's still no CD audio being played in game. So I attach the CD Digital line to the drive and card... still no sound. Maybe it's just R6:RS being a bad game... so I tried it with Splinter Cell. Still no CD sounds in game. Is it just me or do any of you else think that A GAME THAT COMES WITH THE SOUND CARD SHOULD HAVE FULL SOUND?!?! I do, but i dont think the game or the card are to blame, i think it's some sort of problem with my beloved computer. If you know how to solve this, please tell me so I can sleep at night. Thanks...

P.S. I'm using the latest Audigy drivers, i have DX 9.0c, my BIOS is out of date, my chipset drivers havent been updated.
I submitted an email to Creatives tech support team. Apparently just putting the card in and installing drivers isnt good enough. The guy said i have to go into safe mode, run a driver deletion prog, then adjust msconfig settings then reboot and install the card using blah blah with the widget disk and update the whats-it-nows. So really it's just come down to if I want to do that crap right now... and I dont so it goes on the back burner till after my vacation.
