9600Pro to 9600XT Wed Aug 25, 2004 4:29:43 PM#9766Perm Link
Has anyone heard about the possibility of flashing the bios of an ATI Radeon 9600Pro with the bios of a 9600XT to get an increase in performance? Even a google search achieves minimal results. Ive only found trace evidence that something like this is possible.
That suckers already OC'ed as far as itll go with its stock cooler. Ramsinks are in place, next step is better core cooling. Currently im trying to fit it with a stock athlon cooler, but its going to take a lot of modification to get it on there withtout making contact with capacitors or resistors.
lap the core to remove residual thermal paste. then make a plate of copper that will act as a riser for the heat sink you can then mount all that and nothing should hit any capacitors. If that doesnt work, just buy an active NB cooler, i think that would work far better than those stupid flat coolers with no fins or pins directly under the fan. If that doesnt work then i'd suggest you make a heat sink out of scrap metal using a dremel and solder and as always, use a fan.

P.S. Copper is good but aluminium can work too... i dunno about iron or steel.
lap the core? not on these radeons, that would be like lapping an athlon core. but a nb coller is an option. i think im about done with the modifications on the old stock amd cooler, so ill snap a pic of that that once its attached. i really hate the stupid little peices of crap they put on video cars, like it supposed to function with a pci card directly in front of it. antone who needs that mant pci slots should really consider cutting back on the extras. btw, what video cards do you guys use?
GeForce4 Ti4200 128mb 8x. It's old but it gets me through. I want to upgrade but i'm not sure if i want to go cheap and get an FX5900 or the new GF 6800.
