Celebrities and Science

The Scientist's latest issue features a very good article about celebrities and what they tell the general public about science. When celebrities talk, people listen. If they talk rubbish, people will believe them anyway. When it comes to science, their limited knowledge doesn't prevent them from dishing out advice that can potentially be harmful, and scientists worldwide have decided to finally do something about it instead of simply cringeing at some of the inepties a few celebrities come out with.

Before these famous characters undertake to educate people about science, it would be more beneficial if they could first educate themselves on the topic they want to discuss, don't you think?

It isn't just science, it is also politics. They don't have facts and should shut the hell up.

That is a very interesting article and thanks for the link. Personally, I don't pay celebritiies any mind when it comes to science because most time they don't have the facts.
