a long time ago in the industry, originals were not used at all

the original software was backed up and stored off-site (safe deposit box or some other secure area), then copies would be made from the backup of the original for use daily and when they were worn, new copies were made from the backup; only when the backup was worn would the sacred original be used to make another backup; sometimes multiple 1st generation backups would be used

Thanks for the input. I was just using the gaming example of something I have done in the past which I cannot do now... Damn Starforce crap.
