Flaming mad Relive classic cartoon moments. Old Mon May 3, 2004 6:33:11 PM #8389 Perm Link
In the mid 90's Nickelodeon came out with so many good shows that they literally ran the network off of (Rugrats, I'm looking at you)
However, barring the more popular shows, I'm gonna look at the lovely failures that shouldn't have been. Now, Nickelodeon, like all networks, is stupid (one possible exception is Spike TV). Nick had A-Plus entertainment such as Hey Arnold and guess what they did. They destroyed and disheveled that show by making Rocket Power because despite how obviously similar the shows are, people apparently loved the shows California edge so they watched that instead. Next up: Cat-Dog. Yes it was weird. Yes it was funny. One problem: Nobody wacthed because Nick was retarded and released SpongeBob immediantly afterwards. Another similar example: Invader Zim. So incredibly stupid you couln't help but laugh. One problem: Nick chose to release it at the same as Fairly Oddparents, the only show on the whole damn network with a chance to kill SpongeBob. Huge mistake number 2: They sold Ren and Stimpy to Spike TV, losing so many people it wasn't even funny (then Spike fumbled this perfectly expert pass by constantly changing the time slot). Big mistake number 3: back when Nick was fighting Disney (how long has it been since that happened, eh?) they got an expert pass from WB before Cartoon Network was even a glimmer: they got old Saturday morning cartoons (Animaniacs, Pinky and The Brain and Tiny Toons) only to kill 'em a year later. Then they were stupid enough to not continue the contractwith them so they went to newly developed Cartoon Network. Then, showing no regards for the show that put them on top, they kill Rugrats (VERY STUPID MOVE) and hope SpongeBob and Fairly Oddparents will take it's place. Well, they haven't. And remember AHHHH! Real Monsters? I hated it but I knew it was a good show. DEAD. Angry Beavers? In perhaps one of Nick's smartest moves ever, they let it live for a longer time than almost any other Nick show (besides Rugrats and Rocko's Modern Life). Speaking of ole' Rocko, Another smart move was to let it live for about 10 years. Kablam? Died at the hands of SpongeBob. Action League NOW!? Killed by Rugrats.
Anyways, my solution to Nick's problem? Stop pushing SpongeBob so damn hard and let the oldies be seen by the youngsters. (coincidentally, they've done the second half on the "Nicktoons" channel [channel 302 on Direct TV], but SpongeBob still works over time.

And now for Disney:Too many problems to list, but ahh well. Problem number one: Dumb Ass management part one: Super Suckie Sequels! This one is self-explanetory. Not only with perfect cartoon movies (Jungle Book, Cinderella, Little Mermaid, Peter Pan [and no, I'm not talking about Hook], etc.) but also with live action movies (Inspector Gadget). Funnily, the Disney sequels that don't suck are usually before 1995 such as Alladin 2 and Lion King 2 (screw 1/2) or involve dogs such as 101 Dalmations Part 2, 102 Dalmations (different movie) and Lady and the Tramp 2. Problem number 2: Dumb Ass management part 2: Not resigning a contract with Pixar. This is just so f'ing stupid it isn't even funny. The Pixar movies are the only reason Disney isn't at the Salvation Army now. Problem number 3: complete and total fumbling of Disney the channel. I wacth Disney to see Mickey and Donald and Goofy, NOT Dave the Barbarian. This is just stupidity on Disney's part 'cause they have had so many passes thrown at them that they have had picked off. Very good example: The original Doug. Great show along the lines of Hey Arnold. So what does Disney do? They sell it to Nick. Retards. So now Disney is a network run off of old Saturday morning cartoons that, although I admit are very good, they are also very old (Pepper Ann anyone?). The really good Saturday morning cartoons are dead (Mighty Ducks) and the network is overflowing with shit. What will they do? Same as Nick only much mor drastic: kill everything made after 2002 and start over introducing new shows and filling time slots with classics (Bonkers is a good example). And for god sakes fire the current management. How far are they in doing this? halfway there 'cause the current president is gonna get saked next year. (As an odd note of how TV shows go from one network to another, Digimon was a Fox show and now Disney owns it. How? Disney bought Fox Family. Heh heh.)
Also, as I must make at least one Sonic referance in here, Disney used to have AoStH (they helped pay for it) but for some reason shunned it to around midnight for 5 years and then just killed it. Stupid ass.

Next week: Cartoon Netwrok/WB and Fox inc.

Michael: Jodie, how's my schedule look for today?
Jodie: You've got a conference and dinner party at the Japanese Embassy regarding wildlife protection.
Michael: Oh, yeah...sorry, but I'll have to cancel that. I'm heading out to save America!

I love Nicktoons =3 It's the only place to see the old shows I know and love...they should show more ZIM though.

Disney is retarded. I heard they ditched their hand-animated section and went with Pixar-made films. Home on the Range is the last of the hand-animated ones.

I'm ticked they took off all those nostalgic shows on Toon Disney -.-; I liked Jungle Cubs

Huh? Signature? What's going on with that signature?

The only good shows ever played on Nick:
Invader Zim
Rocco's Modern Life
Ren & Stimpy

PERIOD.

I don't know where they got the idea for hiring Jhonen...were they reading Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and thinking "Kids will love this!"?

That's what happened, actually @.@ Someone from Nick was reading JtHM and thought JV would be perfect for making a cartoon for children...because...maybe they were high at the time?

Huh? Signature? What's going on with that signature?

Still, I love Invader Zim, JtHM, and I Feel Sick. In November I bought the DVD off of Amazon just so I could watch the episodes when I wanted to. Jhonen's works make my day.

So, I'm no longer THAT stupid...well, maybe I am.

The best cartoon moment: ZIM: "Alright Gir, turn on your guidance chip and lead us the way to home" (gir points in the air indicating Earth as home) ZIM: (laughs) No, Gir, our home base here on Earth. GIR: umm...here. No, it's over there. ZIM: How could you not know? I just upgraded your Guidence Chip today! GIR: Oh, I left that at home. ZIM: you left what at home? GIR: The guidy, chippy thing. ZIM: WHY would you do that?!!?! GIR: (head opens and out pops a cupcake) To make room for the cupcake!
Any one who has seen it knows what I'm talking about.

Stop bringing up old threads.

2014 is going to be a good year. More content, more streamlining. Be a part of history!

This does bring back many memories. Despite bumping of the thread. Anyone remember a show called Wiener Bell or something like that? It was a really weird show on in the mid 90's on Nick.
