New Space Telescope

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), whose launch is planned for 2013, will be able to see further than Hubble currently does and will study the first stars and galaxies that formed just after the Big Bang.

The cost is no more insane than that of the Defense Department of the USA. At least, this money is used for knowledge, not for war.
