safe mode boot Old Fri Dec 31, 2004 7:57:54 PM #10688 Perm Link
I can't seem to be able to boot into safe mode.
F8 and the option comes up, but then it comes back saying that it was inable to do

it and just boot into the OS.
Intel 915GAGL MB (PCI express)
XP pro
OK, after hitting "safe mode" enter, it goes through what looks like its going to

boot into safe mode. But, it comes back to a scren that states:
"Apology for any inconvience, Windows did not start successfuly. A recent

hardware/software change may have caused this.
The next 2 paragraphs did not apply at all, but went something like this:
If a previous start up was interrupted by a power failure,,, "NOT APPLICABLE".
And:
If PC stopped responding unexpectedly,,, "NOT APPLICABLE"
And really, the first paragraph doesn't apply, since its a new build, There are NO

hardware changes, and only min software. Nothing that should stop safe mode or

ever has in the past. But now, for the heck of it. I will uninstall the couple

APP's I did load.
So other then thaT I dont know what to tell you.
Its a Intell MB 915GAGL.
XP Pro service pk 2
I couldnt find anything in the BIOS about it.
It seems pretty strange.
Any ideas?
If U need more info, pls tell me what OK?
Thanks again

You might have some random hardware problem making Windows not boot. Or possibly one of the apps screwed up XP. I have seen both happen.

Light bulb I think I found the problem Old Thu Jan 27, 2005 6:33:40 AM #10797 Perm Link
You installed a M.S. Service Pack. These things are notorious for doing more harm than good. In any case, was SP2 the first thing you installed on the pc, or did you install it after you installed some other applications? I say this because it is better if you install the S.P and any Windows updates before installing any app's. I don't think you can uninstall SP2 from the add/remove programs. Did you by chance create a restore point?? Keep us posted.
