Great news for MGS: Metal Gear Solid 3: Sustenance (Not sure of the spelling) coming this fall for the PS2, is finally bringing a 3rd person camera angle as a regular option in the game, along with the old camera from what I read in PSM. This is the view I prefer for some reason, along with the first person view once in awhile. I'll definitely check out MGS:Sustenance now that it's got the 3rd person camera, which is said to be like the 'behind the back' view of Resident Evil 4's Leon.
Camera views? Sounds trivial, but it makes a difference to some players.
The camera wasn't that bad, if anything, I would hope they'd fix the "fighting" engine, the collision detection is a bit sketchy at times, among other things.
And Subsistence(which I believe it is called) will kick ass...gonna have to pick that up when it comes out.
And Metal Gear Solid 4, which, awesomely enough, is being made by Hideo Kojima, even though he said he was done.
I remember reading in PSM he was burnt out making MGS games, and wanted to work on something new. Then MGS 3 was made and now he's back working on MGS 4. He also said he prefers the original camera view (overhead) because it doesn't get him dizzy like a third person view does, but after enough requests for a new camera, he decided MGS4 and MGS3: Substinence will impliment the new camera option.
Hideo is a genius when it comes to making cool games, and he appreciates his fans as well.
Meh, I still think MGS (on Playstation) is the best. The characters were a little too hokey for me. As far as my favorite MGS games, it's MGS>MGS2>MGS3. I really, really hope MGS4 doesn't follow in this trend.
My issues with the original MGS:
No first person thing
I knew the Psycho Mantis trick at least a year before I got the game
I knew what you're actually doing when you insert the key cards near the end a few months before I got the game
I didn't actually have the box so it took me forever to get Meryl's Codec.
Anyway, oh yes, the glory (hole) that is Raiden. Apparently most ppl actually liked him. If you try to say anything even remotely negative about him on other boards, everybody gets appalled and flames you.
My main gripe with him is that we had to play as him for 80% of the game. 50/50 would've been fine. Most ppl come back with this "You get to see Snake from somebody's else's (Raiden's) perspective" bs, but that still doesn't help with the fact that I want to play as Snake, not as some cartwheeling whiny fairy that has hissy fits with his girlfriend all the time.
The worst part is that it's pretty much confirmed that we'll have to play as Raiden in MGS4. Some ppl even think we'll play as Raiden for the entire game. If you watch the MGS4 teaser trailer, it may seem like Snake is the main character (Raiden and Snake are fighting over who's the main character in the trailer), but many ppl say that there's a noise that occurs when Raiden sits in the "main character" seat, which doesn't occur when Snake sits in the seat, meaning that Raiden is the main character.
Gawd, i really hope this is not true. If we do have to play as Raiden, I just hope it's less than 80% of the game. Maybe 0.08% would be acceptable.
Well, there was a First Person view, but you just can't shoot from it, and that bothered me.
As for MGS4, the cast of characters looks kick ass, Vamp/Meryl/I can't remember who else, and I just pray they don't ruin it with Raiden. He does have a baby.......maybe that will keep him incapable of being a main character.
