From Thread: Core i7 Finally Old Sun Nov 28, 2010 9:43:20 PM
For the past couple of years I've had a Core i7 920 system with hardware flowing in and out of it for doing testing and reviews. The time has come to stop using my Q6600 and move to the i7 platform. I plan on moving the Q6600 to some other task eventually which I haven't decided on what.

I'm upgrading all the computers that I control and that also means my parents are getting upgrades. The slowest computer we'll have is a Pentium D 830 based system.

From Thread: Comp wouldn't install Linux - CD drive problem! Old Sun Nov 21, 2010 2:08:17 PM
I just want to share my experience about why computers are such a pain to diagnose. I've been trying to build a computer for use at my parents house while I'm over visiting so I had a Core 2 Duo E6420 and an Asus P5N-T Deluxe with 4GB of Kingston HyperX Ram sitting doing nothing. I scrounged a 80GB SATA drive and a PATA DVD drive for use since it is just for random stuff. The optical drive works fine on other systems. I just bought a new power supply which doesn't have the 8-pin EPS connector, but has enough juice on the 4-pin 12v anyway and I don't plan on overclocking.

The damn system wouldn't complete booting. Sometimes it would hang at the ATA initialization, sometimes at USB, sometimes at Firewire, and then it would start to have kernel panics about ACPI and APIC. Linux was complaining that the CPU weren't being synced correctly.

I started pulling everything I could to check and thought it was the power supply. After a couple of hours, I remembered I had a 8x DVDRW drive from Liteon for review that used USB. Unplugging the PATA optical drive and using the USB... NO ERRORS! It is now working totally fine and I left the optical drive off for the time being.

This is why computers are such a pain when there are problems. You wouldn't think that it was the optical drive causing problems... but there you go. I got the hint from the one ATA hang, but it was a one off thing. Even so, the system is humming fine now.

What a pain.

Actually marijuana under an ounce is decriminalized as it can be claimed as personal. (basically you can get a fine. no jail time no criminal record)

From Thread: Parts, parts, and more parts. Old Sun Nov 14, 2010 7:00:14 PM
Now what we have here is a dual set of Swiftech 3x120 radiators! First we have the MCR320-QP Stackable along with the MCR320-QP. The stackable 320 radiator retails out alone for $77.99 alone, seen HERE! Along with this a$$ kicking radiator we have paired it up with the Swiftech MCR320 to give the user the awesomeness of dual 320 radiators.....But wait, that's not all folks! Along with this pair we are adding in three Scythe Ultra Kaze 120mm X 38mm 3000 RPM kick ass fans to cool that ultra liquid cooling system down! To get an idea of what these suckers are all about, you can check out the specs HERE!

But wait, that's not all!!! Along with this already awesome setup, the purchaser will also receive 6 each 1/2" barbs already installed! This will also include Tygon 1/2" ID X 3/4" OD clear tubing between the two radiators as well. (Of course I realize that the picture shows just one black tubing between them LOL.) THIS is the link to the Tygon tubing for your reading enjoyment!
And now you thought it was a great deal, right? Well, we are not finished yet! For the final inclusion on this deal, the purchaser will receive 6 each reusable "Herbie" clips for all of the fittings as well!!!!!!!!! One can take a look at the "Herbie" clips HERE!

So, the purchaser gets dual 320 radiators, 3 each Scythe Ultra Kaze fans, 6 each 1/2" barbs, Tygon 1/2" ID X 3/4" OD tubing, and 6 each "Herbie" reusable clips! Retailing at about $180!!!

My Price $100.00 USD Shipped USPS Priority Mail in the ConUS!!!!

Next up is brand new in packages Kingston KNE 100 TX 10/100 network cards. I have several of these and I realize there is not much call for an external NIC card anymore, but figured I would put these up on the for sale thread anyhow.

Image

My Price is $6.00 shipped in the ConUS!

I also have a D-Link DI-604 four port router. Great router for a LAN party, or for a house if you do not need a wireless connection. Comes with power adapter.

My price is $14.00 Shipped in the ConUS!

Keep checking back, as there is more to come in the next few days!!!:toast:

Anyone have any info about this new smartphone? It runs Android 2.1 and sports a 320x240 capacitive touch screen. It isn't the speediest thing at 528MHz (unsure of CPU type), but it is fairly cheap.

The form factor seems pretty good for people that don't want to lug a huge device around. My father is looking to replace his phone with a smartphone and this might be the ticket. The new "datapak" from Verizon is $15 per month and gives you 150MB. Even on my unlimited, I've been using less than 50MB of month (No idea!).

The Imation Defender F200 Biometric Flash Drive is a privacy-oriented flash drive that takes an innovative approach to security. The software that provides the security is fast to load, straightforward in its presentation, and quite easy to set up and use. We wish it was a little faster, though.

Ok, I've started building my pc. I'm going to order the parts through out the month. Right now I'm just taking care of the cheap stuff such as case, disk drive and power supply. I even ordered an extra case fan because I ordered an Antec 300 and there is no fan supplied for the side.
