From Thread: Mediacom "support" issues. Old Fri Sep 24, 2010 4:59:58 PM
Gotcha on the lame part. They have told me in the past that they don't do any blocking; I guess this isn't the case? They didn't look at the ARIN list, I don't think... If they had looked at ARIN, they'd see that it is a legitimate website, and not a bogon. Besides, how could they mistake it for a bogon? What bogon list are they using? One from 1990??

I agree. Unless the base system came with it, it is useless.

That's the problem with add-ons, not everyone has it and publishers don't want to spend money on something with a less market share than the base system.

From Thread: VMWare Looking At Novell's SuSE at ASE Labs Old Mon Sep 20, 2010 2:56:07 PM
Couldn't VMWare create a complete Linux platform without an acquisition of Novell? It seems to me they'd be better off starting from scratch at this point. Novell looks like more of a liability then an investment. Who still uses Novell crap anyway?

From Thread: Imagine People Complaining About Ubuntu's Contributions at ASE Labs Old Mon Sep 20, 2010 2:50:10 PM
This is forever going to be an issue in the Linux "community". You can make the best software and make it available for free, but if no one's using it, it isn't worth squat. The Linux community is nothing more than jealous of what Ubuntu has become. Isn't the idea that anyone can use Linux for whatever means they'd like? So, if Ubuntu is using for their own purpose (which happens to benefit all of its users), what's the real problem here?

From Thread: suggestions for gaming laptop Old Mon Sep 20, 2010 1:01:30 AM
1000-1500 for a gaming laptop? That doesn't leave as many options as it used to. Gateway used to make a really good one a year or so ago, but they don't any more. Dell also killed of their XPS range (which would have been my first suggestion), and I don't think they make the big bad HPs anymore (though they might). Keep in mind that you are going to be looking at 15.4 inch models and up for gaming uses, usually erring towards 17 inchers.

From Thread: Nvidia GTX 400 series Old Sun Sep 12, 2010 11:18:36 PM
The GTX 460 1GB is pretty much able to match the slightly older 465, and is supposedly quite a bit friendly to overclocking. It also runs a tad quieter and takes about 50 watts less in power than the 465. I remember when it initially announced the guys at GPU Review went absolutely crazy for the thing. Strictly speaking, I would go for the GTX 460 1GB.

That being said, if you can't find a 460 1GB for the same price or close to it as the GTX 465, I would just get the 465. Or a pair, in your case.

From Thread: Microsoft Kin mobile phone review Old Sun Sep 12, 2010 11:03:08 PM
Now Microsoft has been making a big deal out of the cameras on these phones, having equipped the One with a 5 megapixel shooter, and the Two with an 8 megapixel version that does wait for it... 720p video. For starters, just the act of trying to take a photo with the hardware buttons on these phones is really quite uncomfortable; somehow, both the One and Two seem to force your hand into a position where you're blocking the lens with a finger or two. On the One, it's usually good for taking a picture after a firm press, but sometimes there's no reaction at all, while on the Two, it tends to focus in and out and then never snap a photo. Both the One and Two are equipped with autofocus lenses, though the One seemed to struggle much less with focusing in on subjects. On the other hand, its images looked more washed out to us. To sum up, taking still photos with both Kin devices was a frustrating, unrewarding affair that yielded more bad than good.
