»Microsoft To Support Chinese Office Standard

Microsoft will be supporting a Chinese document standard. I don't understand why when their own format and ODF are fine for doing the drop. Everyone should be using ODF.

Quote

Also on Monday, the company is expected to make available beta versions of previously announced translators between PowerPoint and Excel and corresponding applications that support the OpenDocument Format, or ODF. The converters, to be available on the SourceForge.net site, let people open and save documents in either the Ecma Open XML formats or ODF. An initial translator for Word was released earlier this year; those for PowerPoint and Excel are expected to be completed by the end of the year.

I would think that Microsoft would be more interested in fixing the problems with Vista than with sueing people over things like that. But, I guess if their products are selling as well as they had been, they might need a new influx of money?

Some one who has not taken his medication for a long time. This is so sad. My heart goes out to the families of the slain students. This continues to happen, because of the misserable state of our mental health community. No money for anything. The government cuts mental health and veterans benfits. All crap. And they continue to kill the innocent.

From Thread: Heaven and Hell/Megadeth/Machine Head concert Old Fri May 18, 2007 8:46:38 PM
I went to that concert tonight, and it WAS FUCKING AMAZING. Oh god, it was so fun. Megadeth did an AWESOME job, they put on a great show. I wish they would have played longer, though (but they weren't headlining, Heaven and Hell was.). Symphony of Destruction was fucking great, the crowd went wild. Dave Mustaine was fucking great. I love that man.

Ronny James Dio, what to say about him? God, everything about him was awesome. He puts on such a great show, even his movements and facial expressions were perfect. I loved it. He's great with Sabbath. Everything about that was just perfect.

Our kids were done before the left the hospital, so I think all of that was included in what the hospital was paid. I have no idea how much the actual procedure cost. I'd have thought it was more than that.

If you are going with a Core 2, I suggest either 965P board or a Nvidia 650i. Those should provide good performance and tweaking options.

Asus makes a range of boards in each price range. I'm picking up a P5N32-E SLI, but you could get a regular P5N-E and have a great deal.

From Thread: Amazon Aquires DPreview.com Old Tue May 15, 2007 6:07:24 AM
There is a new news item posted at »ASE Labs

»Amazon Aquires DPreview.com

Amazon has purchased the great professional camera review site dpreview.com. I think this will be the beginning of the end for dpreview.com because Amazon sells the cameras that they review. A bit of bias here and there... that will destroy the site.

Quote

We're proud and excited to announce that Dpreview has been acquired by the worlds leading online retailer, Amazon.com. Started as hobby site in 1998, dpreview.com has grown to be the number one destination for anyone interested in digital cameras and digital photography. Each month dpreview.com has seven million unique visitors (over 22 million sessions) who read over 120 million pages. "We've worked very hard over the last eight years to deliver consistently high quality content to our readers", founder Phil Askey said. "It will be fantastic to be able to expand and build on that without compromising our quality or independence. With the support and resources of Amazon we can achieve this."

From Thread: Phenom FX From AMD Old Mon May 14, 2007 6:06:21 AM
There is a new news item posted at »ASE Labs

»Phenom FX From AMD

AMD will be releasing new CPUs later this year with a new name. The Phenom will be a quad core CPU.

Quote

But AMD chose to build a single chip with four cores, which the company believes will result in better performance because information will not have to leave one core to visit its neighbor. It's the same debate over an integrated memory controller and point-to-point links that propelled AMD's Opteron and Athlon 64 chips to prominence: Cores that are directly linked offer better performance than cores that have to exchange information by leaving the chip. Intel contends that by improving the speed and performance of its cache memory and the front-side bus--that off-chip bridge between cores--it can offer excellent performance and sidestep manufacturing concerns. Because AMD has yet to deliver its quad-core chips, the debate is mostly aesthetic, but it could become an important distinction if Barcelona and the Phenom chips open a significant performance advantage over Intel's currently shipping quad-core processors later this year.
