do you agree or not ? Tue May 4, 2010 1:49:32 PM#119704Perm Link
I don't know if I should put this in the movies or not but recently my econoomics teacher at my high school has said that the only reason hollywood keeps making remakes of old movies is because "it is a safe economic decision" personally i still don't understand this could someone explain this to me and also do you agree with this or not?
Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both. For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, "If I Live, I will kill you. If I Die, You are forgiven." Such is the Rule of Honor.
It means that the studios are too lazy to attempt to find a new topic and would rather rehash a topic that is popular. They want revenue. That's why you see remakes and sequels... And they usually suck. People still flock to see them.
The statement is sound.

It translates over into the world of video games. How many good, original games do you see today? Not a hell of a lot. It's all sequels and why do they go with sequels? Because they are a cash cow hidden behind a name that people recognize.
Hollywood isn't stupid. They'll go for the quick, easy, secure buck, especially because of how things are in the world today. I know I won't throw $10 + concession out the window unless I know the movie is going to rock my socks...not that I ever really would regardless of if the economy is spiraling the drain.
The only game sequels that are fine are the story based ones. Mass Effect 2 is an example. The problem I have is that sequels tend to make the gameplay vastly different than the original...
That's not a sequel. Starcraft 2 better not do that.
