The PS2 is basically dead. However, Sony may view this as a profitable way to shut up the people still complaining about BC. And Sony does want to release PS2 games on PSN, and this would make doing so far easier.

I hope they release it. as long as it's not to expensive. seeing as i have a fairly big PS2 collection and I've had my old PS2 for 6 years and when that finaly goes i won't have anything to play them on as i have a 40GB PS3.
