Was thinking about buying it from blizzard online. So glad this came out today, blizz skipped server maintenance on all wow servers. Hahahaha yeah I'm a loser. =P
I was loving this game till I moved into university residences. And the damn ports are blocked so I cant play it here. Twas a sad day. Just been spending time looking for a work around
No the game doesnt work in single player. Im not sure what kind of networking it is. if I try to start single player I get the message 'To enable offline play, connect to battle.net to authorize your game client. you also need at least one starcraft 2 player on the account'. Which is odd, as I was playing it the day before I got here.
While trying to connect to battle.net, I get the waiting for 'responce from battle.net' until it times out. I cant work out why some games wont work, Source games like CSS and TF2 work, but I cant get SC2, WoW or League of legends to work at all.
Blizzard really screwed everyone with this always online Starcraft 2. You can't even play single player... that's terrible. I'd probably email your network admin and tell them...
I'd also contact Blizzard and demand you be able to return the defective product (since you can't use it).
2014 is going to be a good year. More content, more streamlining. Be a part of history!
If you're interested at all Aron, I managed to get onto the single player through a SSH tunneling method. problem is I need to connect to a server, and the one im using cuts out every 30 mins due to me not paying for it, a trail account type thing. So I can play single player for now at least, and it gives me hope for a real fix. Just got to find a free SSH server. If you look for people using methods to tunnel World of warcraft to lower ping somehow, this is exactly what I did, with SC2. The network ports are all the same, so it was dead easy to set up, and it just allows me to get past the weird network configuration here at uni
Errmm, these are the instructions I used http://www.wowtunnels.com/instructions_32bit_manual
Im not too sure how it works, I just know it does. I set up the application through freecap as starcraft insted of Warcraft though. I should find a free server soon, or set one up at home as you say. the problem is, my connection at home isnt great, like 2.2mb download and 0.5mb upload, so that would pretty much rule out multiplayer aswell. Before I tried this, I couldnt connect to battle.net servers at all, just got the battle.net is down message.
