This was no accident. Sony is going crazy by removing all the good functionality from their system after purchase.

If I owned a PS3 and this happened, I'd probably return it... or sue Sony.

There are actually talks over at SRK about switching the systems used for tournament play from the PS3 to the 360 because of this. They only switched over because the PS3 had incredibly loose device tolerances towards what worked as a controller/adapter for the system (basically, you could use any HID controller or HID emulator with enough buttons as a DS3), and if the home-built adapters (like the Sega Saturn -> USB ones) have been disabled by this the system will probably cease to be used entirely.

Its disgusting when companies get overprotective of their products for selfish reasons. They're forcing people to only buy controllers from them so they can get more money.

I don't want to buy a PS3 anymore.

I thought Nintendo did the same thing... but it turned out that the controller was basically off the shelf Bluetooth and some other bits.

Nyko and others make controllers for the Wii and we'll have a review of the Wand+ which is their Remote+MotionPlus combo.

There are Xbox 360 controllers that are done the same way, but I believe they are wired only.

2014 is going to be a good year. More content, more streamlining. Be a part of history!
