There are actually talks over at SRK about switching the systems used for tournament play from the PS3 to the 360 because of this. They only switched over because the PS3 had incredibly loose device tolerances towards what worked as a controller/adapter for the system (basically, you could use any HID controller or HID emulator with enough buttons as a DS3), and if the home-built adapters (like the Sega Saturn -> USB ones) have been disabled by this the system will probably cease to be used entirely.

Its disgusting when companies get overprotective of their products for selfish reasons. They're forcing people to only buy controllers from them so they can get more money.
That didn't stop Nintendo from trying to sue Nyko into oblivion when the controller first came out, though.
