Could There Be A New Core2Duo Chip?

Heres something I came across and apparently there might be a new Core2Duo chip:

If this chip ever gets into the retail market, and if it does it should be quite cheap, I wonder if it will OC as well as the other Core2Duo chips. Only issue is you'll need a board that can hit a high FSB to reach any high clock speeds.

Actually, that may be the new Celeron style chip.

Intel cannot be pushing Netburst for Celeron anymore.

I started to wonder that too and I didn't know the new Celeron lineup was dualcore as CPU-z says this chip has two cores.

Remember that these dual core chips are from a single piece of silicon. It would be just as easy to make these instead of two types of chips.

I never thought about that but I guess that would decrease cost plus Intel could just disable parts of the cache.

I am gonna wait and see how the AM2+ turns out but if I can't wait I'll go with a E6300, or E6400 since prices should have dropped by then.

i dont think too there is going to be any other celeron chip but there might be a new core 2 duo chip with some new capabilities.

I KNOW there will be no Celeron chip. I went to Intel for a job shadow, and I was talking to the guy there, and he said that they are discontinuing the Celeron line, and focusing on their newer chips.

The Celeron line of CPUs is suppose to still exist but under a new name.

how could that be?
it means they took pentium upgraded it and named it core2 duo and thats the same with celeron which was changed to pentium. why do they then still have celeron and pentium comp.

It's only a matter of time until they get rid of the Pentium and Celeron line. As soon as the prices come down on their newest processors, there will be no need to make Pentium or Celeron processors, although the Pentium D line is very nice.

Even if the Celeron name is stripped, this chip looks like it will be the new "Celeron."

Intel doesn't make anymore Pentium or Celeron CPUs hence the Core2Duo chips.

No, why would Intel do so since there is the Core2Duo.

No sense on having two CPU lineups with both being dualcore CPUs when one is obviously better.

It wouldn't make sense moving backwards.

Pentium D is still in production, just not full scale.

Remember that there are many people that don't have newer boards for the new Core chips yet.

The 805 would have been the better choice since dualcore is more futureproof and it OCs like crazy. The downside is the overall power usage is high when at extreme OC'd speeds.

Considering the only real difference is 60Mhz(1.8GHz vs. 1.86GHz) and a lower FSB(800MHz vs. 1066MHz) than the E6300, that price seems reasonable. Maybe it if was clocked at 1.6GHz the price would be lower like at around $125.

As long as the CPU is cheap, is capable of a good OC, and the supported boards can handle the high FSB, like the 680i and 650i, I'll take'em.

For anyone building a computer on a budget, the Pentium D 805 would be the ticket. At 95 dollars, it has Dual Core, and 64 bit, running at 2.6 ghz. A CPU magazine overclock got it passing the Pentium Extreme Edition in multiple tests.

The 805 is old and hot. People are now better off saving up the money and buying a Core 2 CPU over the older 805. Even with overclocking, the 805 isn't that great... none of the long as hell pipelined Netburst chips are.

I agree. The old 805 sure is cheap but not really worth it. Heck if you are building a new system, the core 2 duo's cheapest cpu is much better than the 805. (even amd's dual core is even much better than 805).
