Gridco Systems Introduces New Static VAR Compensator to Augment Utility-Side Energy Efficiency and Peak Demand Reduction Programs
Enables system-wide benefits at significant cost savings to distribution utilities
WOBURN, Mass. and ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Gridco Systems, a leader in agile grid infrastructure solutions, today announced the launch of the Gridco Systems Static VAR Compensator(TM) (SVC) product line with the introduction of the SVC-20(TM) model, a low-voltage (LV) boosting device. The SVC-20 amplifies the benefits of utility-side energy efficiency and peak demand reduction programs based on Conservation Voltage Reduction (CVR) and Volt-VAR optimization (VVO).
The SVC-20 is a rugged, lightweight, pole-mounted device with a modular hardware system designed for outdoor installation on the secondary side of distribution transformers. Its ease of installation avoids the delays, high costs, and other complexities associated with conventional approaches to minimizing voltage drop, such as reconductoring or distribution transformer upsizing. Designed for deployment in single-phase or three-phase applications, the shunt-connected SVC-20 targets specific locations along the feeder, injecting up to 20 KVAR per phase to boost voltage and assure compliance with ANSI/IEC standards.
The SVC-20's robust switching design, advanced algorithms and remote communications afford both grid-edge visibility and control to distribution engineers, while its field-upgradeable VAR modules allow field technicians to add and/or replace capacity as necessary, simplifying grid planning, operations and maintenance. Similar to other components of the Gridco Systems emPower(TM) Solution, the SVC-20 is autonomous in its operation, but can be remotely monitored and managed via Gridco Systems' Grid Management and Analytics Platform(TM) (GMAP) software.
"Distribution utilities are increasingly focused on cost-effectively implementing energy efficiency programs that go beyond customer-only participation," said Naimish Patel, CEO of Gridco Systems. "However, utility-side energy efficiency programs have not yet experienced wide adoption due to lack of visibility and control at the grid edge, where scattered low-voltage points impose fundamental limits on program benefits. The Gridco Systems SVC complements our other power regulation product offerings to provide an easily deployable end-to-end solution that extracts maximum benefits from VVO/CVR programs, without reliance on complex back-office software integration."
Key Features
-- Low Voltage Active Boost: dynamically increase voltage above a
configurable threshold to maintain voltage assurance
-- Reactive Power Compensation: inject reactive power along the LV
secondary when needed for power factor support or loss reduction
-- Line Voltage Monitoring: validate CVR program performance with interval
data collected by integrated voltage sensors
-- Operational Flexibility: autonomous set-and-forget, locally manage,
and/or remotely manage as part of an overall fleet of Gridco Systems
devices
-- Modularity: cost-effective and flexible architecture includes
field-upgradable components such as VAR modules, utility-specified
communications, and surge suppression
-- Maintenance-Free Design: the SVC-20 utilizes semiconductor-based zero
voltage and zero current switching, eliminating wear and tear associated
with conventional electromechanical equipment
-- Low-Loss Design: modular design and advanced controls allow for a
fraction of the full VAR rating to be activated when conditions don't
require the full 20 KVAR capacity
Benefits to Distribution Utilities
-- Improving CVR/VVO efficiency program execution by boosting limiting
loads and allowing lower overall feeder voltages
-- Enabling effective grid-side demand response to lower peak generation
costs
-- Low installed cost as compared to circuit reinforcement
-- Gaining additional visibility and active control at the grid edge

Dysh - The New Food App that Gets Users Straight to the Plate
EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Feb. 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Restaurant-hoppers, choosey foodies and indecisive diners alike will now be able to discover the best items on any menu thanks to the new smartphone application, Dysh. The free app, launched by Toast Labs, Inc. merges user-generated content and technology to create a conversation around the food, getting straight to the plate.
Users are encouraged to post photos of those hunger-inducing meals (i.e. curate the sort of #foodporn you might find on Instagram), and to help friends decide what to order by rating dishes on a 100-point scale. Dysh answers both the age-old question, "what do I order?" and the modern quandary, "where do I post it?"
Of course, food sharing is nothing new. But by adding a level of personalization and gamification to the process, Dysh's concept is to re-define how everyone finds and shares their favorite fare. Diners can discover the must-have menu item at a particular restaurant or simply search for the best food and drink nearby. The app is equipped with location services technology and provides custom results based on a user's exact location. No more sorting through lengthy paragraphs of unknown reviews or crossing fingers that the server will be able to recommend something they will like. Dysh puts an end to eater's remorse by putting recommendations from fellow and trusted "Taste Buds" right at their fingertips.
"I am a big believer in Dysh, just as I was a big believer in The Honest Company," said Dysh Partner and Lead Investor Brian Lee. "We identified something that foodies desired - a social environment where people can easily find and share all the best dishes - and then created an app to do exactly that."
Founder and CEO Ashley King explained, "Knowing that food lovers want to share their latest culinary discoveries, we are supporting what users are already doing, photo-sharing. We have built a social utility app that goes beyond just showing the image and transforms it into content for a personalized food and drink recommendation engine. Our platform allows users to browse beautiful food photos posted by their friends, but also helps them make a decision on what to order."
King is a veteran in the early stage start-up space, and one the first employees at The Honest Company, ShoeDazzle, and Ed Hardy Clothing. With her JD/MBA background, she has a history of being involved with businesses from the ground up. Most recently at The Honest Company, King led business development, legal/HR, and orchestrated all philanthropic efforts and company volunteerism. Keeping in stride with her commitment to social responsibility, Dysh will continually look for ways to give back to the community as the company continues to grow.
The company just finished a late-seed round of financing with investments from BAM Ventures, Chaotic Investments, John Bendheim Enterprises, and Suntoy Enterprises. Angel investors also include Courtney and Carter Reum, Jeff Stibel, and Matt Toledo, Publisher and CEO of the Los Angeles Business Journal.
About Toast Labs, Inc.
Headquartered in El Segundo, California and founded in late 2014, Dysh was created to change the way people experience food. Discovering the best dishes and new restaurants has never been easier. Join the community, share your thoughts, and take your "food game" to the next level.

KitchenAid Introduces Dishwasher With Window And Interior Lighting
BENTON HARBOR, Mich., Feb. 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The latest dishwasher from KitchenAid, the industry's top performing dishwasher brand, combines the premium features of other top KitchenAid models with a sleek, new twist. Among other innovative design elements, the new model features a tinted, exterior window with lighted interior that illuminates upon completion of the washing cycle.
"The integration of a window with lighted interior makes for a dramatic design statement and provides the assurance of seeing that dishes are sparkling prior to removal," said Beth Robinson, senior manager of brand experience for KitchenAid. "Beyond its striking visual design features, this new model maintains a quiet home environment and provides the versatility to clean everything from glassware and utensils to deep dishes and large serving platters."
Performance Features
The new dishwasher features a dynamic wash arm, comprised of nine wash arms in one, for better soaking and scrubbing of dishes, and complete water coverage throughout the dishwasher. An exclusive Clean Water Wash System continuously removes food particles from the wash water for superior performance, even with the heaviest loads, by using a stainless steel, maintenance-free filter. All dishwashers in the collection feature a simple, one-touch ProWash(TM) Cycle that automatically selects the best cleaning setting based on soil levels. For extra tough, stuck-on-messes, a ProScrub(TM) Cycle uses 40 targeted spray jets that help remove food residue, and a ProScrub(TM) Upper feature provides two dedicated spray zones in the upper rack, for additional scrubbing power.
Once dishes are clean, the Advanced ProDry(TM) System uses a recessed heating element, vents and fans to optimize drying. Combined with a Heat Dry Option, dishes are sure to be dry by the end of the cycle without the use of rinse aid. Additional cycles include an Express Wash setting that washes dishes in a shorter cycle time, regardless of the soil level.
Interior Features
Located on the upper rack of the dishwasher, a new bottle wash feature provides a high-powered, concentrated spray wash for items such as bottles, vases and deep or odd-shaped dishes. The four dedicated spray nozzles are adjustable and can be bent to accommodate a wide range of bottle and dish sizes.
Adjustable shelving on both sides of the upper rack feature indents for securing stemware and can be folded down to provide extra space for cups, wineglasses or longer items like utensils and spatulas. The lower rack features sliding tines that can be adjusted from left to right to accommodate large, deep dishes with a wide setting, or smaller items with a narrow setting. Both racks feature SatinGlide® Max Rails with dual channels and dual ball bearings allow for smooth and seamless movement of the racks, even when they are fully stacked and loaded.
The newest model is ENERGY STAR® qualified and offers a quiet performance sound of 44dBa thanks to a built-in sound insulation system that includes sound dampening components to help maintain a quiet home environment. The inner tub is made of stainless steel to help withstand the test of time by resisting streaks, stains, and odors.
Exterior Features
New exterior design elements include a door window with a chrome inlaid frame and features interior lighting that appears through the window when the dishwasher cycle is complete, notifying cooks that dishes are clean. Precision Touch Controls provide a seamless, easy-to-use look and feel, and Satin Textured Handles, inspired by professional-grade kitchen appliances, feature a satin cross-hatch texture with a secure, no-slip grip. The new models with window will be available in January in stainless steel, with suggested retail price of $2,049.
Since the introduction of its legendary stand mixer in 1919 and first dishwasher in 1949, KitchenAid has built on the legacy of these icons to create a complete line of products designed for cooks. Today, the KitchenAid brand offers virtually every essential for the well-equipped kitchen with a collection that includes everything from countertop appliances to cookware, ranges to refrigerators, and whisks to wine cellars. Flipsy.com Gets You Full Tax Credit For Donated Gadgets, No Receipt Needed
New Price History feature on Flipsy.com makes it easier than ever to claim full credit for donated phones, tablets, and other devices when filing federal taxes for 2015; even without a receipt
PORTLAND, Ore., Feb. 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- No one likes paying taxes, but Flipsy.com's new Price History feature makes it easy for anyone who donated an electronic gadget in 2015 to reduce their tax burden by writing off the full value of donated devices.
Many people who donate used phones and other devices neglect to take advantage of this easy tax break, particularly when donations are made via drop-off boxes such as those employed by Cell Phones for Soldiers. This is primarily because they do not have a receipt.
However, the IRS does not require receipts for donations valued under $250. That's where Flipsy.com comes in. To find the value of any phone, smartphone, iPhone, tablet, iPad, or video game console:
-- Search or browse for the device on http://www.flipsy.com
-- Notice the Private Party value, which is the current private market
value of the device
-- If the device was donated earlier in the year, click the "Price History"
link to view historical values by month
The IRS allows you to deduct the Fair Market Value (FMV) of the device at the time of donation on Line 17 of Form 1040 Schedule A. If you have multiple donated devices that collectively total greater than $500, you additionally need to complete and attach Form 8283 to Form 1040. Note that electronics must be in "good" condition to qualify for the deduction.
For organizations that write receipts for donors, Flipsy.com's Price History feature also makes it easy to determine the Fair Market Value of electronics and offer accurate appraisals. Flipsy determines private market values by collecting and analyzing data from actual real-world private market sales.
To find the current or historical private market value of any device, visit http://www.flipsy.com.
Since 2012, Flipsy has provided sellers with real-time, accurate pricing for textbooks, books, mobile phones, tablets, video game consoles and more by aggregating current online sales prices. Flipsy is also a leading buyback vendor search engine that connects device sellers with buyers. Next Generation Processors Take Real-Time Processing to a New Level for Data Center Networking, Security and Storage Applications
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Kalray Inc., the pioneer in many-core processing, today in conjunction with the Linley Data Center Conference, announced general availability of KONIC-80, a programmable smart NIC based on Bostan, its second generation many-core processor, by March, 2016. Kalray's solutions deliver features for today's network, security, and storage acceleration requirements. The Linley Data Center Conference takes place at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Santa Clara, Calif., from February 9-10.
"Bostan's unique architecture provides high computing performance with real time processing and low power consumption," said Jag Bolaria, principal analyst at The Linley Group."The simple design of compute cores with a real time NoC provides deterministic and low latency performance that is well suited for various applications, including storage and networking."
Kalray's KONIC-80 will support the Open Data Plane (ODP) framework, which is an open source Linaro hosted initiative that is building momentum in the telecom, networking and security industry. ODP provides a full set of APIs that allows users to easily port and customize software protocol stacks. In parallel, Kalray is working with software partners to offer a complete turnkey solution by porting on top of ODP functions such as Open vSwitch (OVS), MPLS, NVGRE, VXLAN, SSL, IPsec, and TCP along with iSCSI, iSER or NVMEoF.
Data center storage is going through a profound revolution. SSDs are replacing HDDs in increasing numbers. A remote storage server has to implement Millions of I/O Operations Per Seconds (MIOPS), which consists of reading or writing variable size blocks of data into the SSD. Bostan is an effective solution to handle all those operations in parallel thanks to its high speed integrated interfaces (2X 40GbE and 2X-8-lanes Gen3 PCIe end point or root complex) connected to its 288 cores processing array.
"Kalray is committed to keeping pace with the fast changing needs of next generation data center systems for increased performance, better encryption capabilities, lower power consumption, and increased flexibility," said Eric Baissus, Kalray CEO. "Our Bostan high speed I/O processor is getting strong traction in the storage data center market place as we are in discussion with most of the key storage servers manufacturers to design our processor in their various offerings."
Kalray has great opportunities in the storage domain area ranging from the integrated storage server and the storage server smart NIC, to the crypto and compression offloading board and the RAID (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks) card controller. Kalray will announce those individual storage use cases in the near future.
Product Highlights
KONIC-80 is a single width, half-length PCIe programmable card that allows users to support new functionalities and protocols in a few weeks as opposed to almost one year with competition boards that are based on ASICs. It supports 2 x 40GbE ports and consumes maximum 35W.
At the heart of the smart NIC is Bostan, which is one of the few embedded processors capable of processing on the fly 2 x 40GbE full duplex line rate thanks to a fully deterministic and low latency architecture integrating 288 C/C++ programmable CPU cores and 128 crypto co-processors. Bostan can feed the internal processing array with 190 million packets per second (Mpps) and execute up to 3,300 instructions per packet at this rate. This is enough to perform extra functions such as compression or encryption in addition to basic L2-L7 routing.

Withings Launches Hy-Result: An Advanced Advisory Service for the Better Control of High Blood Pressure
First Health In- App Premium Purchase from Withings Clinically Proven to Deliver Same Standard of Advice as Specialist Physicians
BOSTON, Feb. 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Withings, a leader in the connected health revolution, has launched Hy-Result, a sophisticated advisory algorithm that helps people interpret and assess personalized interventions that can aid in the better management of high blood pressure. Developed by a team of hypertension specialists from Hospital Georges Pompidou in Paris, Hy-Result intelligently analyses blood pressure data from in-home monitors such as the Withings Wireless Blood Pressure Monitor and provides users with personalized assessments of their cardiovascular health based on a person's medical data, lifestyle factors and physical statistics, in addition to identifying strategies for preventative measures to heart health risks and better management of high blood pressure. Akin to a virtual medical specialist and priced at $4.99, it is the first in-app premium service to be launched within the award-winning Withings Health Mate application.
Created by an international scientific committee composed of high blood pressure experts under the leadership of Dr. Postel-Vinay, Hy-Result combines the professional advisory protocols laid down by the European Society of Hypertension (ESH) with scientific data on the management of blood pressure. (1)
Ahead of its adoption by Withings, Hy-Result has been validated in a head-to-head clinical trial, comparing its recommendations with that of hypertension specialists. In a study published in November 2015 in the peer reviewed Blood Pressure Monitoring Journal(2), it was found that Hy-Result software delivered the same advice as specialist physicians 95.4% of the time, making it at least as accurate as that of a specialist in current practice. While not intended as a replacement to professional consultations with cardiologists and general practitioners, the study does validate Hy-Result as a trusted tool to be used by patients and their caregivers between doctor visits.
Withings is committed to scientific validation of its connected health devices and Hy-Results adds to Withings' portfolio of imperial evidence showing the positive impact that devices can have on the personal management of cardiovascular health. Earlier this year, Withings released the results of an 18-month study with the American Medical Group Association (AMGA) at four medical groups (Billings Clinic, Community Physician Network, Cornerstone Health Care, P.A., and Wilmington Health) that looked at the role of connected technology in helping people to control high blood pressure. It found that patients were better able to control their high blood pressure using an at-home monitor (in this project, it was the Withings Wireless Blood Pressure Monitor) with control rates improving from 38.6% to 70.0%.
How It Works
Hy-Result combines blood pressure data with information about the individual user to determine interventions that will best deliver results. The first step is to ask the user questions about his/her lifestyle, medication, medical history and personal stats. The user sets a daily reminder to take three blood pressure readings in the morning and three in the evening over a 5-day period. This can be with the Withings Wireless Blood Pressure Monitor or any blood pressure monitoring device, as the data can be entered manually into the app.
Blood pressure measurements are variable, hence the purpose of taking so many blood pressure readings. Hy-Result provides a more complete look into an individual's blood pressure assessment by taking multiple readings over multiple days. Since hypertension is considered a "silent disease," meaning many people live with it unknowingly, taking one's blood pressure regularly at home can be more effective than an annual visit to the doctor.
From this information, the protocol will provide users with personalized assessments of their cardiovascular health and identify strategies for preventative measures to heart health risks and the better management of high blood pressure. Users can share a secure PDF report detailing their results and advice with their own physicians to better partner with medical professionals to take control of their own health.
Availability
Hy-Result can be purchased for $4.99 in the Withings Health Mate application (iOS only) from February 2016 onwards and is available in the US, Canada, UK and France in French and English. It is the first premium health service offered within The Withings Health Mate application, named as one of Apple's Best Apps of 2014.

Oregon Voting Option Includes New Technology Backed by Well-Known Name
Hands-On Demonstration of Hart InterCivic's Verity in the Works
SALEM, Ore., Feb. 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- By pioneering automatic voter registration, Oregon becomes one of the easiest places to vote, ratcheting up ballot volume and putting pressure on election officials hampered by aging voting systems. Now, county clerks considering upgrades are getting opportunities to learn more about the only second generation digital solution to pass rigorous state and national certification standards, Verity® Voting by Hart InterCivic.
Designed with direct input from Oregon election managers, Verity was spotlighted at a users' group session during last week's Oregon Association of County Clerks Mid-Winter Conference in Salem. The conference brought together county and state voting officials to discuss election issues.
"Meeting face-to-face with election managers reinforced that while Oregon appreciates pioneering ideas, they also appreciate the decades of experience that back the Verity system," said Vice President of Operations Peter Lichtenheld, who led the Hart InterCivic meeting. "For example, our 10-year history in Oregon means our integration with the State's voter registration databases is in place and ready to manage potentially increasing voter volume."
"On the other hand, innovation shines through in Verity's high speed ballot scanning and color-coded onscreen resolution of voter intent. We'll be showing both in great detail at a statewide, hands-on demonstration in June."
Details of the June demonstration in Clackamas County will be shared when a date is confirmed. Early adopter Clackamas County, with about 230,000 registered voters, debuted Verity successfully in November 2015 and will help show the system in action.
County clerks and other election officials at the Salem session with Hart also learned more about Verity's approach to post-election audits, including a user-friendly process for confirming write-ins and voter intent.
Hart representatives also led a paper-quality tutorial to help officials choose the most trouble-free ballot paper. Excellent ballot quality is crucial in a by-mail state like Oregon.
Finally, Hart partners met individually with company representatives to review their goals, procedures and other big-picture needs for the coming year.
"This long-view consultation is a building block of Hart's approach to customer service," said Lichtenheld. "It gives us another opportunity to listen to our customers - to anticipate their needs and find solutions that prevent deadline emergencies. This way, we continue to raise the bar."
Austin-based Hart InterCivic is a full service election solutions innovator, partnering with state and local governments to deliver secure, accurate and reliable elections. Working side-by-side with election professionals for more than 100 years, Hart is committed to helping advance democracy one election at a time. The Hart mission fuels passionate customer focus and a continuous drive for technological innovation. The new Verity Voting system makes voting more straightforward, more equitable and more accessible--and ensures that managing elections is more transparent, more efficient and easier.
LeEco Crosses the Magic Million; Creates Three Industry Records
BANGALORE, February 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
All-time High of Over 1 Million Registrations; Record 95,000 Orders Received in 20
secondsÂ
Le 1s receives a record 95,000 orders received within 20 seconds. A never-before
record achieved by multinational Internet technology giant LeEco on February 9th for its
second flash sale on Flipkart. Prior to the flash sale today, the registration number
reached a record high of 10.30 lakhs - an astounding figure which is an industry first for
any mobile brand in India, leave alone a recent entrant like LeEco. It would appear that
LeEco's Le 1s has endeared itself to Indian consumers and gained unprecedented popularity
in a short span of time, owing to its superior performance, amazing features and
attractive price.
Market disruptor LeEco has once again created three incredible records: the largest
number of orders received in a single flash sale; the shortest ever time for the orders
received and the highest pre-sale registration number. LeEco's international stature,
superior technology and lower than BOM cost pricing have contributed immensely in creating
these amazing records.Â
Commenting on the recent records achieved, Atul Jain, COO, Smart Electronics Business,
LeEco India said, "A million thanks to our customers for helping us reach these magic
numbers. It is a very proud moment for us at LeEco and immensely gratifying to have set
new records of crossing 1 million pre-sale registrations and receiving 95,000 orders in a
mere 20 seconds, which has never before been achieved by any other smartphone brand. We
are humbled by this overwhelming response and now even more determined to live up to the
trust consumers have vested in us."Â
LeEco's launch was a much-awaited event in the country and the company has now lived
up to the expectations of millions, thanks to the company's constant innovations and
market disruptive policies. As part of the launch, LeEco introduced two Superphones -Â Le
Max and Le 1s - the latter popularly referred to as 'flagship killer', was widely expected
to capture a significant share of the massive middle-class market with its attractive
price and superb specifications.
Consumer response has validated the popularity of Le 1s. Within 24 hours of the launch
event the registration for Le 1s for the first flash sale exceeded 1 lakh, soaring to a
final astounding figure of 605,000 with a sale of 70,000 phones in just 2 seconds -
setting a string of new records in the industry.
Ankit Nagori, Chief Business Officer, Flipkart, said, "Le 1s has done phenomenally
well on our platform. With record-breaking number of registrations and customer visits to
buy the phone, response to the second flash sale too has completely surpassed our
expectations. We are very thrilled to create this history with Le Eco."
For those who could not buy a Le 1s at the February 9th flash sale, there is good news
- the next flash sale for Le 1s on Flipkart is on February 16th and dedicated to the
silver colour model of the phone. Registrations will commence at 18:00 hours on February
9th. Those who registered earlier but could not buy today would not need to register
afresh as there would be a roll over. The big and bold Le Max will also be available on
open sale starting February 16th.Â
Le 1s has a metal unibody, a world's first mirror-surface finger scanner, and a 5.5"
FHD display, the flagship processor of the year Helio X10 Turbo, 3GB Ram and 32 GB storage,
dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE support, and USB Type-C port. On the camera front, there is a
13 megapixel f/2.0 rear camera, and 5 megapixel wide angle selfie camera. This phone is so
popular in other markets that in less than 3 months it sold more than 3 million units in
China. The phone has also been endorsed by Tech Influencers and rated highly on
specialized tech portals.
Another outstanding feature is the phone's fast charging technology, which means a
5-minute quick charge allows for 3.5 hour talktime. Business people need not worry about
the phone running out of charge during busy days. And buyers of this phone can expect a
content ecosystem to be uploaded into its android-based EUI system in the 2nd quarter of
this year since the company has already signed contracts with Eros and Yupp TV.Â
Also, noteworthy is the company's after-sales policies. LeEco has put in place 555
service centers in prime locations in the country, besides providing 24*7 toll-free
services, and other value-added services.

TidalScale releases its System-Scaling HyperKernel
Transparently scales a virtual system to the size needed by large data problems
CAMPBELL, Calif., Feb. 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- TidalScale, a company that makes it easy for customers to address large-scale compute problems, has released version 1.0 of the TidalScale HyperKernel. TidalScale offers the unique ability to transparently deploy a software-scaled computer to tackle large, data intensive problems in-memory. Until now, organizations with large data problems have been forced to slice their applications and data to fit into the memory of several smaller physical machines. The TidalScale HyperKernel eliminates that complexity.
The TidalScale HyperKernel will appeal to users who need a large memory space for applications like data mining, machine learning, and simulation.
The HyperKernel is a distributed hypervisor that allows a single operating system (like Linux) to transparently run across multiple commodity servers. The HyperKernel aggregates all the processors, memory, storage, and networks into a single virtual system that automatically and dynamically optimizes for best performance. The TidalScale HyperKernel requires no changes to existing applications or to standard operating systems or databases.
Software-scaled computers open the door to a wider range of new in-memory applications because users can deploy virtual systems much larger than the standard hardware servers typically available in data centers today but using the same equipment.
The TidalScale HyperKernel is currently in use by several customers. Customers are successfully running applications with Revolution R, Python, and AnyLogic. In Q4 2015, TidalScale published a Revolution R benchmark showing TidalScale HyperKernel's performance results.
The product is available for immediate deployment. Customers with large data and processing requirements are encouraged to contact sales@tidalscale.com.
"When TidalScale's CEO Ike Nassi joined the computer industry, 32KB was a big computer and every cycle counted," said Peter Christy, Research Director, 451 Research. "Later, when virtual machines were developed, skeptics thought the performance overhead would limit acceptance, and the same was later said for use of a hypervisor, and history proved the skeptics wrong. TidalScale is betting that the time has come when the 'overhead' of this kind of network-interconnected composed system is also acceptable. The initial benchmarks and use cases suggest they might just be right - history is on their side."
"TidalScale is a revolutionary game changer. Rather than fitting the application to the computer, it allows a user to fit the computer to the application," said Dr. Ike Nassi, CEO of TidalScale, Inc. "For improved management of capital, TidalScale-based systems can scale dynamically and at linear cost, as application needs evolve. It is extremely simple to use, requiring absolutely no changes to existing operating systems, databases, or applications. It automatically optimizes a system based on its instantaneous behavior orders of magnitude faster than can be done manually. And because it's all done in software, as hardware improves our software automatically inherits those improvements."
About TidalScale, Inc.
TidalScale is working to simplify access to affordable large computing systems. TidalScale provides a layer of software that sits underneath an operating system, such as Linux, allowing customers to deploy a software-scaled computer to match the size of their data problems using multiple commodity servers.

nomos System Connects KNX With Samsung's SmartThings on Intel's IoT platform
nomos enables universal integration with KNX and Intel. The nOS is designed to unlock all multimedia, software, service and building automation protocols known today, connecting them with proprietary IoT apps such as Samsung's SmartThings orany other AppleHomeKit compatible app.
AMSTERDAM, Feb. 8, 2016 /CNW/ - nomos system AG, a patented Internet of Things (IoT) automation software platform provider, announces today at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) the climax of interoperability - any app to any thing with nOS.
More and more apps, proprietary ecosystems and various alliances are rushing into market to provide intelligent solutions for building automation under the definition of IoT. But what does IoT actually mean? The new and global key word - IoT (Internet of Things), defines only single, intelligent components, which independently exchange data directly via the internet. That means in reality users end up with three, four or five individual ecosystems in their home, instead of just one.
When nomos system AG set out to address this issue, its goal was simple but ambitious: to create a software engine capable of connecting all devices in all environments and creating universal interoperability, regardless of standards or protocols.
Increasing now the broad compatibility of both nomos Operating System (nOS) and Intel technology, nomos shows an exemplary application; how individual IoT ecosystems like Samsung SmartThings can communicate with KNX a standard in building automation. As gateway between the two separated worlds nOS serves as universal abstraction layer. Being one of the few systems on the market nomos owns a direct communication into KNX and other software stacks. nOS generates access via the nomos Cloud API (REST & Realtime) to all automatically discovered KNX objects in a project, exchanging them to the SmartThings app and providing bidirectional communication between both systems.
Within the SmartThings service "My SmartApps" all elements become available to be controlled and monitored, even if they would not have been compatible before. nOS converts all protocols to provide easy access for any ecosystem and uniting them for a seamless user experience. With nOS installed on Intel's IoT gateways, users can collect, control and feed data to any frontend.
A broad range of OEM clients and partners in multiple verticals trust the horizontal implementable nOS solution, recently adding Intel, Hager Group and LG Hospitality Solutions in Singapure to nomos's impressive reference list.

Curious Minds (CM Pod), a New Science, Technology and History Podcast Program Opens with a Three Part Series on Stuxnet and Cyber Security for Industrial Control and Critical Networks
Among the first guests was Waterfall Security Solutions VP and cyber security expert Andrew Ginter
ASHBURN, Va., Feb. 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Waterfall Security Solutions Ltd. today announced that CM Pod, a new podcast channel focusing on science, technology and history subjects, opened with a guest from Waterfall Security Solutions to discuss Stuxnet and other potential threats on critical infrastructure. When it was discovered in 2010, Stuxnet was the most complicated and sophisticated malware ever known. It highlighted the increasingly deliberate cyber attacks on targets that hold consequences much more dangerous than the loss of data.
Andrew Ginter, Waterfall's VP of Industrial Security, was invited as the first guest on the program due to his long experience identifying and offering solutions to the potential threats on industrial control systems, as well as his participation in the influential paper "How Stuxnet Spreads". After his review of the last few years as threats and malicious malware have become more prominent, Mr. Ginter expanded on the development of a unidirectional gateway for improved security of the IT/OT connection in an industrial control system.
"Since 2005 there is a new class of attacks - malicious software with human guidance or viruses with a directed target like a guided missile to a specific system or organization," said Ginter. "Even prior to the discovery of these attacks, Waterfall Security offers a different type of solution - not an IT approach - but one based on hardware that physically blocks the connection of the industrial control network to the Internet connection so attacks do not get in."
"Fortunately, we provide visibility into the network for operators of ICS and SCADA networks to obtain and share information, thereby maintaining operational and business processes," added Ginter.
The Curious Mind or CM Pod is hosted by Ran Levi, an author and the founder of a Hebrew language podcast in 2007 called 'Making History'. Making History became the most successful podcast in Israel, with millions of downloads. All episodes are available for download free of charge.

Casio Introduces Seven New Affordable LampFree(R) Projectors
New Models will Feature 1.5X Optical Zoom and Provide Lower Total Cost of Ownership
DOVER, N.J., Feb. 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --Casio America, Inc. announced today that it will expand its industry-leading lineup of LampFree((R)) projectors. The affordably priced(*1) Core Series lineup of industry-first LASER & LED light source projectors will expand by adding three new models featuring a 1.5X optical zoom lens. The company will also release four new Advanced Series projectors that offer superior scalability at an affordable price(*1).
"Produced in our premium manufacturing facility, Casio's new Advanced LampFree projectors have all of the features and performance that our customers have come to rely on, in a compact design at a more affordable price point," said Joe Gillio, Senior Director Strategic Planning and Marketing of Casio's Business Projector Division. "We are pleased to be at the forefront of the industry in bringing unprecedented value to users with the new Advanced series. As our expansion continues and technology enhances, we are able to introduce feature rich next generation LASER & LED light source projectors that have increased TCO."
Casio's new LampFree models announced today include four WXGA and three XGA models. All seven of these new models are equipped with a 1.5X zoom lens for optimal flexibility in projector placement. The Advanced Series models can also be used to power other devices with HDMI terminal connections(*1) such as Intel((R)) WiDi*(2) or Miracast*(3) wireless display adapters and stick devices, offering superior scalability. Casio holds an 80 percent share of the global market*(4) for SSI projectors with 2,500 lumens or more, which is bright enough to use in fully lit rooms. This dominant position has allowed Casio to develop an extensive lineup of LampFree projectors.
Casio's new LampFree projectors are produced by Yamagata Casio, the Casio Group's manufacturing base in Japan. The company's projector development capabilities using LASER & LED light source technology have been brought together with the advanced production capabilities of Yamagata Casio, yielding excellent cost performance, while maintaining high quality and reliability.
Superior economic performance delivered by Casio Using a Laser & LED
Casio's LampFree LASER & LED light source offers a lifespan of up to 20,000 hours, eliminating the need for lamp replacement and reducing electricity consumption to about half that of a mercury lamp projector(*5). Given these benefits, total cost of ownership (TCO) for the new models is better than that of a traditional mercury lamp projector.(*6)
Instant Power On/Off delivers outstanding usability
The new projectors reach maximum brightness in as fast as five seconds from the time the power is switched on, eliminating the need to wait around while mercury lamps warm up. They also immediately power off with just a touch of the button and can be used again right away when powered back on, without the need for a cool-down period. The Instant Light Control feature allows adjustment of projection brightness using the left and right keys on the projector itself or on the remote control. Furthermore, with the Intelligent Light Control feature provided in the Advanced Series, these projector models sense ambient brightness in the room and automatically adjust the projection brightness accordingly.
Dependable dust-resistant design offers peace of mind
Casio has achieved projector dust resistance by structuring the internal components into three blocks to shield the optical block from dust. This helps ensure that dust does not lower projection brightness, enabling it to operate consistently for a long time.
Casio is promoting its LampFree light source technology with the aim of replacing mercury lamp projectors. In doing so, Casio is helping to reduce the environmental impact of projectors by discontinuing the use of mercury and cutting down on power consumption, which helps to reduce CO(2 )emissions. These new LampFree models will be available in Q3 2016 through Casio's network of authorized dealers and resellers.
