The armour and supporting technology have been developed by Chiron Global, an Australian-based company that has spent the past four years developing, building, and patenting the technology solution. The solution features in-built sensors, and sophisticated software, that can calculate and display the actual damage a strike would have caused to the body if it was unprotected, in real-time.

A team of highly experienced engineers, technology experts, and product designers, including a former armour developer for films including 'The Lord of the Rings,' designed and built the intelligent armour which provides martial artists with high levels of protection from weapon strikes. The armour has already been tested by a number of highly respected martial arts experts including "The Arch Angel," Sone Vannathy, World Muay Thai Champion.

"Going up against a competitor wearing the armour, I can strike them to the best of my ability without fear of causing serious injury. The experience is unlike any other, but it still feels good to hit," said Vannathy.

The technology will pave the way for a new global sport, Unified Weapons Master(R) (UWM(R)) that pits the world's best weapons martial artists against each other.

Armour and Technology

The Atmel SAM D MCUs are fully supported by Atmel Studio and Atmel Software Framework.

Availability   
The SAM D21 is the first family in this expanded portfolio, and samples and tools are available today with volume production in May 2014. Atmel is currently working with alpha customers. The SAM D21 is offered in 32KB to 256KB of Flash and in 32-, 48- and 64-pin packages

The SAM D10 and D11 families will be available in 14- and 20-pin SOIC and 24-pin QFN packages with up to 16KB of Flash. Both memory options will feature 4KB of SRAM. All package options minimize the number of power pins to maximize the amount of IO available for the application. Engineering samples and tools will be available in Q2 2014.

Ball Aerospace Delivers Phased Array Antennas for Orion Inaugural Flight

Antennas to enable astronaut crew communications on future missions

The Ball-built antennas are the primary means of voice, data and video communications for the astronaut crew for the nation's next generation spacecraft carrying astronauts beyond low Earth orbit and on long-duration, deep-space missions.

Engineers can use the open software design of the vector signal transceiver to develop channel emulation systems, radio prototyping, custom real-time signal processing for spectrum analysis and many other applications.

NI vector signal transceivers combine a vector signal analyzer with a vector signal generator and a user-programmable FPGA for real-time signal processing and control. Customers have seen 10X to 100X improvements in test time in applications such as power servoing in power amplifier test by taking advantage of the speed, deterministic processing and inherent parallel architecture of the FPGA.
