Deutsche Telekom customers in Germany to receive one year of Evernote Premium
MUNICH, March 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Deutsche Telekom and Evernote today announced a strategic partnership that will drive new innovations between the two companies. Today, the companies announced the first part of their partnership: providing 1-year Evernote Premium accounts to all Deutsche Telekom customers in Germany.
Starting today, Deutsche Telekom customers can enjoy a more powerful experience with Evernote Premium (retailing at EUR40 per year). The Evernote Premium offer is available to all Deutsche Telekom subscribers including fixed line, broadband and mobile customers for the next 18 months.
Evernote enables Deutsche Telekom customers to take notes, clip webpages, snap articles, create to-do lists and record audio using their mobile phones. Momentum Builds for Passage of Marketplace Fairness Act of 2013
WASHINGTON, March 22, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- TheInternational Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) today applauded the adoption of an amendment to the fiscal year 2014 Senate Budget Resolution. The amendment gives states the authority - if they so choose - to require online sellers to collect sales taxes just like brick-and-mortar retailers already do. It also provides a common-sense, bipartisan solution to a decades-old problem that has impaired free market principles and distorted the marketplace.

The free app, which is currently available for Android and available for download at http://www.ibmwaterwatchers.co.za, and the SMS capability* together provide an easy way for anyone to collect and report issues on local waterways and pipes to a centralized portal. After taking a photo and answering three simple questions about the particular water canal or pipe, the data is uploaded in real-time to a central database. After 30 days, the data will be analyzed and aggregated into a meaningful "leak hot spot" map for South Africa.

IBM began exploring crowdsourcing to address water related issues in the city of San Jose, California, with its CreekWatch mobile app, which is still available and currently being used in more than 25 countries. WaterWatchers was adapted from the CreekWatch concept to include additional capabilities such as SMS and the ability to share photos on social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.
Under spending on water in South Africa has seen the department of water affairs increase spending by 20% to R9 billion ($900M USD) in 2011- 2012. Similarly, spending on water sector management has increased by 28.8% year on year over the same period and spending on water infrastructure management has risen by 13.2% year on year. But the pressure of urban population influx continues to place more strain on ageing water infrastructure. According to the 2011 Census, ninety-three percent of South African households had access to safe water in 2010 but only 45% of those with access to water actually had it in their homes.
A WaterWatchers report will be made available to local municipalities, water control boards and other water system stakeholders once the data is filtered appropriately. This could help local municipalities vizualise and prioritize improvements to city water infrastructure.
The WaterWatchers platform holds enormous potential for similar applications that can be used to monitor and report on just about any aspect of one's environment: city services (report potholes, late buses), wildlife, noise pollution, air quality, weather and more.

BPC's Governors' Council Calls for Passage of Senator Enzi Amendment on Internet Sales Tax
WASHINGTON, March 22, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, the Bipartisan Policy Center's (BPC) Governors' Council called upon the Senate to pass the Enzi Amendment to the fiscal 2014 budget resolution. This amendment would enable states to collect sales taxes from out of state e-retailers.
"We would like to commend Senator Enzi and his bipartisan group of co-sponsors: Senators Alexander, Blunt, Cardin, Durbin, Harken, Heitkamp, Johnson (SD), Reed, Rockefeller and Whitehouse for their action. As states continue to struggle in this harsh economic climate, this amendment offers a reasonable option to help states obtain taxes legally due them, and to do so in a deficit-neutral manner.
"Currently, states can only require stores that have a physical presence in that state to collect state sales taxes. Importantly, these taxes are already owed by consumers under existing state 'use tax' laws, but they are not being collected by the e-retailer. With the growth in online purchasing, this has resulted in a significant loss in tax revenue for many states. According to the National Retail Federation, $24 billion in state revenues are lost annually due to purchases made via the Internet.
"In addition to the loss of state tax revenue, online purchases create an unfair advantage for stores that have only an online presence in the state and negatively affect the sales of both small brick and mortar businesses and larger retail stores. The amendment addresses this inequality by allowing states to enforce tax laws that are already in existence."

NEW YORK, March 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- P. Schoenfeld Asset Management LP ("PSAM") and its investment advisory clients, which together own shares of MetroPCS Communications, Inc. ("PCS" or the "Company") valued at approximately $100 million at today's prices, sent a letter today to the PCS Board of Directors requesting a focus on the Company's governance structure and policies should the proposed transaction with T-Mobile be voted down at the Special Meeting on April 12, 2013.
In the letter to the PCS Board, PSAM stated that:
1. PCS Board Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Roger Linquist and Board
member Kevin Landry should both step down from the Board of Directors as
their interests are no longer aligned with PCS shareholders;
2. Mr. Linquist should also resign as Chief Executive Officer ("CEO"), if
PCS shareholders vote down the proposed T-Mobile transaction, and PCS's
Board should identify a new CEO to manage the Company on a standalone
basis;
3. The PCS Board should delay the 2013 Annual Meeting until late June to
allow its shareholders to put forth proposals and director nominations in
the two weeks following the Special Meeting; and
4. Standalone does not mean standstill - the Company should remain open to
alliances and relationships that maximize shareholder value.
PSAM continues to encourage PCS shareholders to vote AGAINST the proposed T-Mobile transaction at the April 12, 2013 Special Meeting due to the materially unfair structure of the transaction for PCS shareholders, and the greater value PCS shareholders will receive from the Company remaining as a standalone business.

As the Special Meeting to vote on the T-Mobile transaction approaches, the time has come for the MetroPCS ("PCS" or the "Company") Board (the "Board") and shareholders to turn their attention to the Company's governance going forward when and if the deal is voted down.
We have previously expressed our opinion that it is offensive for Roger Linquist and Kevin Landry (through his fund TA Associates) to be aggressively selling down their positions in PCS stock while simultaneously recommending the T-Mobile transaction to PCS stockholders, based on implied values nearly 70% above their sales prices. In our opinion, these two directors no longer have their interests properly aligned with shareholders and they should both leave the Board now.
In addition to resigning from the Board, Mr. Linquist should step down as Chief Executive Officer ("CEO") after an appropriate transition period, and the Board should be considering the question of CEO succession if PCS remains a standalone company after the Special Meeting. We believe that PCS has an excellent management team and, with the right leadership, can continue to operate a highly successful business, taking advantage of the Company's strong balance sheet and significant spectrum assets.
PCS's directors should be addressing both of these critical questions -- the composition of the Board and CEO succession -- now so that PCS is properly prepared to move forward as a standalone company. We would be happy to meet with the PCS Board in the spirit of cooperation to give you our thoughts about how PCS should deal with these very important issues, including providing potential Board member candidates who we think could deliver appropriate value to PCS shareholders.
The PCS Board should also be considering the 2013 Annual Meeting. The vote on the T-Mobile transaction is also a referendum on the existing PCS Board and its policies. If the deal is voted down, PCS shareholders should have an opportunity to make proposals and nominations at the 2013 Annual Meeting as a matter of good corporate governance. As a result, we propose that PCS delay the Annual Meeting until late June and provide a two-week period following the Special Meeting in which PCS shareholders can put forth proposals and director nominations.
As we have said before, standalone does not mean standstill. If PCS remains independent, PCS and the Board should be open to opportunities for new alliances and business relationships to maximize shareholder value for all PCS shareholders, and it needs the right governance to take advantage of these opportunities.
