The analysis shows that Norwich FC player Grant Holt, who didn't make Roy Hodgson's
Euro 2012 England squad this week, is the best value English footballer in the Premier
League this season. Having hit the back of the net 15 times, Holt has a calculated
cost-per-goal value of just ?26,667 - a staggering 35 times cheaper than England star
Rooney, who comes in at a whopping ?981,481 per goal. Whilst Rooney's score sheet of 27
goals justifies his place at the Euros, Currys and PC World's analysis shows that Holt
might have been worth a punt too.
The goals of the Premier League's top scorer, Dutch star striker Robin van Persie,
have been valued at the bargain price of just ?91,667 each.
Signing for Arsenal for ?2.75m back in 2004, van Persie's had a great season and is
fantastic value for money compared to his top goal scoring rivals.? By comparison, Wayne
Rooney, Frank Lampard and Jermain Defoe - the latter two also in England's Euro squad -
all cost around ?1,000,000 per goal or more, adding fuel to the argument that many of
our best English players are simply paid too much - especially with Rooney out of the
first two games of the Euros due to bad behaviour.
Of the Premier League's top 20 goal scorers, Manchester United's Ashley Young has the
most expensive cost-per-goal value at ?2.8m - he has only scored six goals this season
and yet was still picked by Hodgson this week.? Other top English goal scorers include
Daniel Sturridge and Danny Graham, who scored 11 and 12 goals respectively this season.?
They have a similar cost-per-goal value with Sturridge's goals valued at ?318k and
Graham's at ?290k - only Sturridge, however, figures in Hodgson's Euro plans and then as
a standby.

Consumer Watchdog Welcomes EU's Antitrust Warning To Google, But Says Internet Giant Unlikely To Settle -- Strong Measures Including Breakup Must Be Considered
SANTA MONICA, Calif., May 21, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Consumer Watchdog today welcomed the European Commission's finding that Google's business practices may violate antitrust law, but predicted that the Internet giant will not offer meaningful remedies voluntarily. The nonpartisan, nonpartisan group said antitrust officials on both sides of the Atlantic should consider breaking up the company.
The European Commission said it was concerned that Google was favoring its own services in search, copying material from websites of competitors without permission, shutting out advertising competition and placing restrictions on the portability of online search advertising campaigns from its platform AdWords to the platforms of competitors.
Consumer Watchdog expressed deep concern about Google's dominance of the mobile market, where Google has 95 percent of the search market.
Joaquin Almunia, Vice President of the European Commission responsible for Competition Policy, offered Google the possibility of proposing remedies to the Commission's four concerns "in a matter of weeks." Otherwise he said the Commission would file a formal list of objections, which could make Google liable for fines of up to 10 percent of its revenue. Revenue last year was $38 billion.
"Google has a history of stonewalling and foot-dragging," said John M. Simpson, Consumer Watchdog's Privacy Project director. "They've already started, saying they disagree with the Commission's findings, but are happy to talk. Regulators on both sides of the Atlantic need to take strong measures including considering breaking Google into separate companies."
Consumer Watchdog first called for the U.S. Department of Justice to launch a broad antitrust probe of Google and consider breaking it into separate companies in April 2010. The following November the European Commission announced its investigation. Last summer the U.S. Federal Trade Commission launched a probe and in a sign of the Commission's seriousness announced in April that it would hire a prominent outside attorney, Beth Wilkinson, to led the investigation.
"With 65 percent of search in the U.S. and over 90 percent in Europe, Google clearly has monopoly power and they abuse it," said Simpson. "The Europeans expressed concern that Google is stealing content from competitors. It's time for meaningful action from the regulators."
Consumer Watchdog said regulators on both sides of the Atlantic could seek a variety of remedies:
-- One possibility would be to break Google into different companies devoted to different lines of business. Search could be separated from DoubleClick, its display-advertising unit. Gmail could be spun off as a separate entity as could YouTube, a Google acquisition that should have been denied at the time of merger. Enterprise applications could be another separate business and mobile yet another.
-- Google's importance as a gateway to cyberspace requires a maximum degree of openness and transparency with the potential for government regulation. Arguably Google's monopoly position and importance to the Internet means that the company should be regarded as a public utility and regulated. Regulations could be designed to open up Google's ad platform to enable other competitors to compete. Rules could be crafted to create greater transparency in the operation of Google's ad platform to enable parties to negotiate more effectively - for example: by providing greater visibility into the maximum amount of the highest bid, how many search terms are shown per page, and how Google's "quality score" is derived and applied. Little, if any, of this information is currently public and openness would contribute to consumer choice and options as well as foster competition.
-- Another remedy would be to force Google to disgorge its monopolistic gains through the imposition of financial penalties. The payment would have to be significant enough to impact Google's future behavior. Perhaps the amount could be tied to paying back consumers for monetizing their private information and content without compensating them.

INRIX Traffic Quality Assurance Program Launched For Transportation Agencies - Free Service Backed by Independent Testing and Pay for Performance Terms
Industry's first Quality Assurance Program replicates quality metrics, penalty formulas and validation methodology of the I-95 Corridor Coalition Vehicle Probe Project to provide 'Peace of Mind' to any real-time data customer
NATIONAL HARBOR, Md., May 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- ITS America Annual Meeting -- INRIX today introduced the industry's first Real-Time Traffic Data Quality Assurance Program at the 2012 ITS America Annual Meeting. The program will embed data validation in INRIX's data license contracts, with experienced independent validators using proven and well documented methods established and used by the I-95 Corridor Coalition over the past four years. The number of validation tests included at no additional cost will scale depending upon the size of the roadway network and the length of the contract - the larger the network, the longer the contract, the higher frequency of validation tests. The program, in partnership with Bluetooth traffic monitoring firm Traffax, applies to limited access networks in all countries and regions in which INRIX provides real-time traffic data.

"At the same time, it is difficult and costly to establish an independent testing regime - leaving many customers to assess quality anecdotally, a priori, or not at all. In the I-95 Corridor Coalition's Vehicle Probe Project (VPP), INRIX has been and continues to be subjected to the most extensive and longest continuously running independent quality validation of private sector traffic data in the world. Since July 2008, the University of Maryland has continued to monitor freeway data quality using portable Bluetooth readers provided by Traffax and has set the standard for quality control for outsourced traffic data. The validation has analyzed numerous facilities 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, under a wide variety of operating conditions including light to severe congestion, holidays, snow storms, overnight work zones, all seasons, daytime and nighttime, weekdays and weekends. To date, data has been collected and published on a nearly monthly basis at 35 test sites in 8 states, producing a total of more than 41,000 hours of ground truth data across more than 750 miles. Data is accurate on average to 2 MPH in all conditions and 5 MPH in congested conditions, well within the project's accuracy requirements. All methods used, data and analysis are made available to the transportation community for review on the Coalition's VPP web site.[1]
INRIX is paid in the VPP based on its data quality as determined in the validation process, with the methodology posted on the VPP web site. If data quality falls out of tolerance in the most recent tests, INRIX will receive a reduced fee. If quality problems were severe - worse than 15MPH error rates for instance - INRIX could even feasibly receive no monthly payment unless/until data quality improves. Further, the process is designed to reward/penalize data quality in congested conditions, with 50% of INRIX's monthly payment tied to the quality of data when ground truth speeds are 45 MPH or less. To date, overall nearly 4 years of the project, INRIX has not had a single quality deduction.
INRIX is now partnering with Traffax to offer to its other public sector customers the same quality and performance regime. INRIX will contract with Traffax, but all testing will be conducted independently as with the VPP, and results made available to the agency customer.[2]

With the release of MS Office 2007, Microsoft changed its encryption algorithm to AES, which made instant calculation of an encryption key impossible. Mobile operators are increasingly setting stringent PIM requirements for DAS to minimize interference, which undermines data, video and voice performance and saps network capacity. Mario Tennis Open Puts a New Spin On Hand-Held Tennis Action
New Game for Nintendo 3DS Features Singles and Doubles Matches, Special Games, Online Multiplayer Modes and Mii Customization Options

Mario Tennis Open is now available for the Nintendo 3DS hand-held system, inviting players to step onto the court with Mario and his Mushroom Kingdom pals for fast-paced singles and doubles tennis matches, skill-building Special Games and new online modes that let friends and family members with wireless Internet access compete together. The game also features new ways for players to customize their Mii characters and interact with other players via the built-in StreetPass feature.
In Mario Tennis Open, players can take on the role of fan-favorite characters such as Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and Bowser, or play as their own personalized Mii character. Choosing between the Nintendo 3DS system's intuitive touch-screen controls or traditional button controls, they can dive into action-packed tennis matches in single-player mode or invite others to join in the fun using a local wireless or Wi-Fi Internet connection. With each victory, players accumulate coins that can be redeemed for virtual items like rackets, sneakers and tennis uniforms, which not only enhance the appearance of their Mii character but also boost their stats on the court.

The action in Mario Tennis Open can get fast and furious as players trade serves, volleys, drop shots and cross-court smashes. Unexpected twists arise when special Chance Areas appear on the court during match play, inviting players to run to those areas to execute supercharged return shots with intense spin or extra power. A variety of Special Games also let players practice their swings and explore new challenges. For example, the included Super Mario Tennis game asks players to complete familiar levels from the classic Super Mario Bros. game by using their tennis swing to stomp Goombas and Koopas.
In addition to well-known Mushroom Kingdom characters like Mario and Luigi, Mario Tennis Open lets players unlock new characters such as Luma, Baby Mario and Dry Bowser. As many as four players can connect online to play Mario Tennis Open together in singles or doubles matches. The new Open Match mode can also be used to pair a player in a singles game with an online opponent of a similar skill level, and players can view their standings via online leaderboards. With a local wireless connection, Nintendo 3DS owners can connect and play together even if only one of them owns a Mario Tennis Open game card.
Players can use the built-in StreetPass feature of the Nintendo 3DS system to interact with other Nintendo 3DS owners they encounter as they go about their day. They can show off their customized Mii characters and incorporate computer-controlled versions of other players' Mii characters in competitive StreetPass matches or cooperative Ring Shot challenges. Exchanging data via StreetPass requires users to have their Nintendo 3DS system set to Sleep Mode, and both users must have the Mario Tennis Open game.
