Customers Find Success With Microsoft Private Cloud
IT professionals use new System Center 2012 to embrace cloud computing for business.
LAS VEGAS, April 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Today at the sold-out Microsoft Management Summit, Corporate Vice President Brad Anderson spoke to nearly 5,000 IT professionals about their opportunity to deliver fast, reliable services with cloud computing. His keynote speech highlighted how customers around the world are already using Microsoft System Center 2012, available today for evaluation and purchase, to create private clouds. Anderson also discussed how IT professionals can evolve their roles with cloud computing to help their businesses be more competitive.
"Cloud computing gives IT professionals an opportunity to increase their strategic value to their businesses while building new skills," Anderson said. "Microsoft's private cloud solutions help IT professionals become cloud innovators for their companies, managing and delivering the applications people need to be productive across private, hybrid and public clouds."
In addition, Anderson provided a preview of how Microsoft's private cloud will become even more powerful with Windows Server "8" and announced that the operating system will officially be named Windows Server 2012. The new "cloud-optimized OS" is due out later this year.
Management Makes the Difference for Customers
IT organizations that use System Center 2012 and Windows Server with Hyper-V for cloud computing are helping their companies move faster, save money and compete better. For example, EmpireCLS Worldwide Chauffeured Services, a luxury car service headquartered in New Jersey, has used a Microsoft private cloud to reduce datacenter costs by 50 percent amid 30 percent company growth during the past 18 months. With more than 1,000 employees, EmpireCLS relies on the Microsoft private cloud to deliver a reliable reservation system to customers in more than 700 cities around the world. Using System Center 2012, EmpireCLS also used its cloud environment to create a new business with its BeTransported software as a service offering. The application is now in use broadly within the car service industry.
Similarly, The Walsh Group, a construction firm based in Chicago, switched to a Microsoft private cloud to automate delivery of virtualized servers and applications for 5,000 employees. In addition to business efficiencies, the company has been able to reduce hardware and energy costs by 20 percent.
"With Microsoft, we are moving beyond virtualization to cloud computing, so we can automate and manage our IT environment as a whole," said Patrick Wirtz, manager of Technology Innovation at The Walsh Group. "It's all about giving our engineers, tradespeople and software developers the computing resources they need to build roadways, bridges and high-rises."
In another case, Apartments.com, a national online apartment search service in Chicago, needed a more dynamic and responsive IT infrastructure to stay competitive in the market and deliver faster service to its 6 million site visitors each month. With Microsoft's private cloud, the company realized 50 percent faster server provisioning for new services and 75 percent lower licensing costs.
More From MMS 2012
Anderson published a blog post today that further details the opportunities for IT professionals to accelerate their careers in the era of continuous services and connected devices. Tomorrow, April 18, he will again take the stage at MMS and address the "World of Connected Devices." The keynote broadcast will start at 8:30 a.m. PDT.
More information about System Center 2012 and Microsoft private cloud is available here, including the live and on-demand keynote broadcasts, links to evaluation software, and more. The STB News Bytes blog has further details on the news discussed at the event. The conversation on Twitter can be followed at #MMS2012.

Loku's New Mobile App: How Locals Prove They Belong
Get the vibe about restaurants, bars, events, and happenings in an area while also proving your knowledge of the local scene; Just go to Loku.com and add app to the homescreen
SAN FRANCISCO, April 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Loku, the site locals rely on for their insider knowledge, today announced the availability of the new Loku App for the Apple iPhone, Android and Windows devices. Using cutting edge HTML5 technology, Loku is the marketplace for local knowledge, allowing insiders to add tips, opinions, and commentary about local places and activities while also getting real-time buzz about the best of everything in their community.
Installing the Loku mobile app couldn't be easier; because HTML5 technology makes the Loku app seem native, anyone can access it from an iPhone, Android or Windows browser. To get the app, simply go to Loku.com on a smartphone and add it to the homescreen when prompted.
Loku takes an authentic approach to local status. Users build status on Loku just as they would in real life in the local community. A local can increase his or her ranking in many ways: spend more time in the area, visit more places, contribute helpful tips or comments, find what's new before others do, invite newcomers to join, be informed, support local businesses, and spread the word about local happenings.
As Loku users explore further and their contributions gain approval, they are awarded expert ranking in their area. Examples of things to discover are local news, deals, and concerts. The app rewards the little interactions that the user gains through exploration.
Find Local Restaurants, Events, Reviews, Happenings, and Gossip
Loku makes it fun to share local insights - and feel good about it, too. The key feature of the app is a stream of everything happening in a given local community, pulled from the entire Internet, social media, and more. The "Nearby" stream can be used to explore what's happening nearby and the city-wide stream can be used to see what's trending across the city. The app flips between pages that feature every aspect of local culture: events, music, food, nightlife, photos, and more.
The results are always fresh and changing to reflect the user's immediate surroundings. Walking just a few blocks with the app open will bring up new content. The same happens if the app is opened a few hours later or on a different day. If you're wandering in a new part of the city, the app doubles as a handy field guide that shows what the locals there care about, where they go, what they do, know, and try, without any intensive searching.
A Fast-Growing Tech Startup
Loku, founded in 2008 and backed by major venture funds, is a leader in online local discovery. Loku's Beta site, Loku.com, was launched in October 2011 to critical success. Since October, the site has been growing 50% month-over-month, with a large base of locals who love it. The mobile app release is another step forward in establishing Loku as a leader in local.
The Tech Behind Loku
Like Loku.com, the Loku mobile app employs an exclusive local analytics engine named "Sherpa" which leverages big data mining techniques to locate and uncover the interesting bits and pieces nearby. "With Loku in hand, you have a window into the community that simply doesn't exist anywhere else," said Dan Street, Chief Executive Officer of Loku. "Our mobile app reveals what the locals care about like the free concert tonight, a new food truck opening, breaking news developing nearby, a happy hour going on, the popularity of an event, or the best dish at a restaurant. With this technology you can skip crowds of tourists, avoid the mainstream noise, and get a real taste of what's local."
Debut in Six Cities
Loku is debuting its HTML5 web app initially for San Francisco, New York, Austin, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington DC, with other cities to be added throughout 2012.
About Loku:

Verizon Chairman and CEO Addresses World Health Care Congress
Outlines Challenges Facing U.S. Health Care System; Details Company's Initiatives to Improve Patient Care, Lower Costs Through Technology
NEW YORK, April 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Chairman and CEO Lowell McAdam, in an address to the World Health Care Congress on Tuesday (April 17), detailed the challenges facing the U.S. health care delivery system and highlighted Verizon's efforts to help transform it through the use of information technology. McAdam pointed out that for true change to occur, both health care providers and consumers must be on board.
As part of Verizon's commitment to the health care marketplace, McAdam announced that the company will form a strategic relationship with NantWorks LLC, a California-based technology and health care company. This initiative follows Verizon's recent combining of its wired and wireless services and IT and network assets to form an integrated health IT organization.
The companies will leverage NantWorks' unique set of health care technologies and Verizon's platform-based health IT portfolio of mobility, cloud and IT offerings to accelerate significant change through highly scalable, connected health IT solutions.
"Today's health care market operates in silos without the ability to share patient and clinical data at even the most basic levels," said McAdam. "Verizon is focused on enabling the transformation of the health care industry through the strategic use of technology that will ultimately lead to significant improvements in the U.S. health care system."
Verizon and NantWorks' first initiative will be to create an integrated information infrastructure, the Cancer Knowledge Action Network, to improve the treatment of cancer. The network will give physicians, for the first time, immediate access to the most up-to-date best-practice information about effective protocols for the treatment of specific cancer conditions.
"The future of medicine is digital and mobile," said Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, founder and CEO of NantWorks. "NantWorks and Verizon share a common vision for the transformation of the health care industry through 'big data.' As one of our first targets, we will explore ways to translate the massive amounts of data available on cancer treatment. Our goal is turn this data into actionable information at the point of care, enabling better care through mobile devices in hospitals, clinics and homes."
According to industry experts, demand for connected health technologies is expected to grow rapidly as the industry seeks to better manage costs and improve patient care by facilitating real-time care coordination, increasing patient engagement and enabling information portability.
It is estimated that health care costs exceed $2.3 trillion and are growing annually at a compound rate of 7 percent. Of these costs, $1.1 trillion is spent managing chronic diseases such as diabetes, congestive heart failure and hypertension.
Gaining Momentum in the Health Care Space
Verizon Connected Healthcare Solutions, the company's $5 billion health IT practice, comprises hundreds of dedicated health IT experts and a research and development group, aimed at bringing new innovations to market.
To date, the company has issued tens of thousands of credentials to health care professionals to enable secure access and exchange sensitive patient information; developed a medical data exchange that facilitates the sharing of information regardless format; and delivered a cloud-based fraud detection solution that uses predictive modeling to help identify fraud in the payment system before a claim is paid, potentially saving businesses and government agencies billions of dollars. Most fraud prevention today consists of trying to recover money after the claim is paid.
In addition, Verizon previously announced strategic agreements with Duke University to leverage the inherent value of advanced communications technologies and with Health Evolution Partners to encourage innovation and adoption of connected health information technologies.
Verizon's strategy is to provide a secure, reliable cloud platform with built-in security and compliant features delivered through mobile devices powered by its high-performance 4G LTE and global IP networks. Each layer of the solution will be tailored to meet the needs of today's disparate ecosystem, including apps and services for independent living; remote care enablement; virtual care; clinician enablement; and payer and vendor enablement.
The company's portfolio will consist of multiple health offerings for chronic disease management; a Secure Messaging platform for the exchange and retrieval of protected health information; a proven Fraud Detection system based on predictive analytics; Universal Identity Services for secure credentials to access confidential health information records; and a secure cloud platform to easily manage health IT transactions.

Currently, over 1.5 billion minutes of video is streamed every month by the site's tens of millions of monthly visitors. This soaring popularity translates to over 80 terabytes of raw video data consumed per month, an amount its previous managed storage infrastructure was simply unable to support.
Prior to deploying Isilon, Livestream's storage solution comprised Linux boxes and open-source software that required merging hundreds of discs across disparate systems. This storage system adversely impacted system speed, scalability and reliability and was difficult to manage, requiring hours of manual administration each week.
Livestream needed a way to handle its rapidly growing video library. The company evaluated multiple solutions from leading storage vendors to more 'self-serve' solutions. Livestream selected EMC Isilon scale-out NAS for several reasons: the system's density allowed Livestream to reduce power, cooling and footprint data center requirements; the ease of management considerably cut administrative efforts; and the much-heightened capacity enabled Livestream to scale up quickly without sacrificing performance and disrupting the user experience.
As Livestream continues to grow, the need for storage capacity continues to accelerate. Isilon's scale-out NAS architecture allows Livestream to plan for the future and easily add nodes to its NL-Series and X-Series systems to increase capacity while improving performance. With the Isilon OneFS operating system, Livestream has automated management tasks that previously required dedicated effort to manage. The company relies on Isilon SmartQuotas, SmartConnect, and SnapShotIQ to track resource usage, provide optimal node utilization, and protect customers' data.
Customer Quote:
Nicholas Tang, vice president, development operations, Livestream
"We're a fast growing startup, so it's critical that we choose a storage product that can meet our needs within a startup's budget. EMC Isilon was a perfect choice - not only did the product lower our operating costs, but it enabled us to seamlessly scale with user demand. And it's so simple to use. It just works."
Isilon Quote:
Sam Grocott, vice president of marketing, EMC Isilon
"Event organizers, content owners, celebrities and artists around the world use Livestream's broadcasting tools to engage and grow their audiences on the Web. With EMC Isilon, Livestream can continue to deliver this content by providing them with a storage environment nimble enough to keep up with user demand for content storage, access, and sharing."
About Isilon

WALTHAM, Mass., April 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --Sanbolic®, a market leader in distributed data management, today announced support for System Center 2012. System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager is available today, and System Center Operations Manager and System Center Orchestrator support will be available by the end of Q2. Sanbolic Melio(TM) can be used both to manage storage for Windows Server Hyper-V, and to manage application data for physical or virtual Windows Server application servers. Using Melio with System Center 2012 will simplify the provisioning of highly available physical or virtual Windows Server workloads on heterogeneous SAN or DAS storage while adding improved data protection, storage live migration, and granular QoS management. Melio supports virtualized Windows Server workloads or private cloud environments across heterogeneous hypervisors.
Sanbolic Melio is purpose-built to alleviate the data management and performance challenges encountered in distributed physical and virtual application environments. By abstracting logical storage from heterogeneous storage hardware and providing a centrally managed shared pool of storage across physical and virtual Windows Servers, Sanbolic enables scale-out and high availability for critical enterprise services such as SQL Server, file and web serving, and virtual desktops.
Melio will integrate easily into environments managed by System Center 2012. Extensive storage level reporting can be used by System Center Operations Manager to manage service performance. Cluster -wide snapshots within Melio can be backed up by System Center Data Protection Manager. System Center Virtual Machine Manager can use Melio as a shared storage resource for Windows Server Hyper-V, adding performance and scalability, as well as features like granular quality of service management and storage live migration.
Melio can be managed through its own interface and through a WMI API, and can be managed through PowerShell commandlets in the new release. Integration with System Center Orchestrator simplifies the automation of logical storage management in private clouds, allowing administrators to easily migrate workloads across storage hardware, manage quality of service for critical workloads, and mirror data across sites for disaster recovery using any industry standard SAN storage or a Sanbolic SoftSAN using local server-side hard disk or solid state storage.
"Sanbolic provides advanced software-based storage management capability for Windows Server virtual machines that can be managed using System Center Virtual Machine Manager," said Sergio Klarreich, Director Strategic Alliances, Management and Security Division, Microsoft Corp. "With the addition of Melio's management packs for System Center 2012, Sanbolic now extends the ability to provide infrastructure as a service that is elastic, self-service, and usage- based in a Microsoft private cloud."

LandAirSea Systems Announces Sponsorship of Cory Joyce Racing and the No. 20 LandAirSea Chevy Impala
CHICAGO, April 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- LandAirSea Systems, Inc., a leading manufacturer and developer GPS tracking systems since 1994, is pleased to announce its official sponsorship of Cory Joyce Racing and No. 20 LandAirSea Chevy Impala.
Cory Joyce is a UARA-Stars Series race car driver. In 2008, the Cory Joyce Racing team made its first significant purchase: a limited late model from family friend and mentor, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Champion Ron Hornaday. That year, Joyce ran six NASCAR Whelen All-American Series races in that machine, showing that he possessed talent for racing cars.
Moving to stock cars full-time in 2009, Joyce earned Rookie of the Year honors and grabbed his first stock-car victory in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Limited Late Model Division at Hickory Motor Speedway. Since then, he has continued to move forward with his stock car racing career, making select Late Model Stock and UARA Series appearances along the East Coast.
Season plans for 2012 include a full schedule of UARA competition for the Cory Joyce Racing team; and LandAirSea will be going along for the ride.
CJR and the SilverCloud at Rockingham Speedway for UARA-STARS 75
This past weekend, Cory Joyce and his team raced in the UARA-STARS 75 at Rockingham Speedway, and fans were given the unique opportunity to track the No. 20 LandAirSea Chevy Impala, which has been outfitted with the SilverCloud Real-Time GPS Tracking System.
The SilverCloud features a powerful and highly accurate GPS module, which is able to pinpoint its location to within 3 meters of the device (6 feet). The rechargeable lithium ion battery is also capable of providing up to 6 days of continuous tracking on full charge with average driving (roughly 2 hours a day).
The intuitive and user-friendly SilverCloud online mapping software, gives users the ability to set geo-fences, produce event and time-based alarms and generate detailed driving reports - indicating speed, distance, number of stops and location information. The SilverCloud offers unlimited real-time tracking and data. The device is able to transmit the GPS location of a vehicle or asset with update interval speeds as fast as every 3 seconds.
When asked what feature of the SilverCloud the CJR team found the most helpful, they responded by saying, "The best feature on the unit that we have is that we can track data that helps us in our setup and watching our top speed and track each lap. The SilverCloud has exceeded our expectations on helping us track our data at the track."
The 3 second continuous updates, provide CJR the speed that they need to record precise and accurate driving data to help them prepare for each race.
And with the innovative patent-pending ShareSpot feature, fans of CJR will have the unique opportunity to track along with the No. 20 LandAirSea Chevy Impala online in real-time, whether it's during practice runs or on race day, directly from their website. The shared online mapping window not only shows where the vehicle is, it also shows where it's going and how fast it's traveling.
Teri Joyce, who handles the Marketing and Public Relations for CJR, had this to say about the SilverCloud's ShareSpot feature:
"We came across an advertisement in SkyMall magazine while traveling; and after reading the reviews on the GPS tracking device our decision was easy. CJR has been utilizing the LandAirSea Silver Cloud in our race cars and giving our fans the chance to watch the race in real-time on our website. The Silver Cloud has helped us gain more of a fan base with our fans being able to watch Cory every time he is on the track."
Along with using the SilverCloud GPS tracking system on their race cars, CJR will also be partnering with LandAirSea Systems as a dealer in providing high-performance GPS tracking devices.
When asked about CJR's partnership with LandAirSea, they responded by saying: "CJR is very excited about our partnership for the 2012 season with Land Air Sea and we are very proud to represent such a great company that believes in there products."
LandAirSea's SilverCloud Sync Real-Time GPS Tracking with On-Board Diagnostics
LandAirSea Systems recently introduced the SilverCloud Sync real-time GPS tracking system with on-board diagnostics. Just like the original SilverCloud, the SilverCloud Sync is extremely easy to use. Simply plug the device into the vehicle's OBD-II port, which is usually located underneath the driver's side dash.
And with the OBD support offered by the SilverCloud Sync, users will be able to not only be able to track their vehicles in real-time, they will be able to gather important diagnostic information such as:
-- Idling alerts
-- Harsh braking alerts
-- Excessive RPM alerts
-- Rapid acceleration alerts
-- Low fuel
-- Ignition on/off
-- And odometer readings?
The data collected from the vehicle's diagnostic system provides car owners, fleet managers, business owners and even law enforcement divisions, valuable up-to-date information on the precise location and condition of one of their most important investments.
The SilverCloud and SilverCloud Sync Real-Time GPS Tracking Systems from LandAirSea have been designed with precision precision, simplicity and durability. For more information email LandAirSea Systems at sales@landairsea.com.

Adiant Launches Real-Time Local, Social News Widget
Widget Allows Publishers to Monetize Updates, Feature Safe Content
NEW YORK, April 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Adiant, the innovation leader in digital media technology for publishers and advertisers, announced today the launch of the CrowdCloud widget, a tool that allows publishers to display aggregated social media data and news items. The CrowdCloud widget offers advantages other real-time local, social news widget services can't match, including an ability to display only curated, local content and a flexible design that enables publishers to monetize the widget and keep users on the publisher's page.
"Real-time local, social news widget technology has been around for some time," noted Ash Nashed, CEO of Adiant. "But the CrowdCloud widget takes the concept to a whole new level. Since the content is curated, users can be confident that it will be relevant and safe. The CrowdCloud widget also allows publishers to feature their own content or generate revenue by selling prominent ad space on the widget itself or on the page header that is displayed when a widget user clicks a link."
The CrowdCloud widget ensures content safety by aggregating the top one percent of social posts via proprietary technology and then subjecting the preselected content to additional scrutiny via human review, a safety measure many other social media aggregators do not provide. The result is safe, quality content that publishers can display without concerns about subjecting viewers to random, irrelevant or offensive items.
Website publishers who want to make their site the go-to source for local news and events can make it happen with the CrowdCloud widget, which enables local social media data display. Publishers can take advantage of the widget's flexible design to augment their revenue streams or promote their own content, offering or using the prime ad space immediately below the widget or in the heading of the new page that displays when widget viewers click a link.
With advantages that traditional real-time local, social news widgets can't deliver, the CrowdCloud widget is poised to change the way publishers provide information. To learn more about CrowdCloud, please visit http://www.crowdcloud.com.
About CrowdCloud
CrowdCloud is a simple and fun way to harness the world of social media to connect real-time with what matters in local communities. Instead of requiring users to find and follow random people and sort though millions of posts, CrowdCloud filters the data, using both artificial intelligence and human curators to deliver meaningful results and let users instantly know what's going on in their locations. CrowdCloud is also striking partnerships with leading local media outlets to help partners leverage this unique mobile technology within their markets. For more information, please visit http://www.crowdcloud.com.

Thirty-One Schools Pilot Wiley and Blackboard Combined Digital Learning Integration
Effort Integrates Rich Digital Content and Tools within Online Courses
HOBOKEN, N.J. and WASHINGTON, April 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Thirty-one institutions are evaluating a new integration for using digital learning content from John Wiley & Sons, Inc. (NYSE: JWa, JWb) with Blackboard Inc.'s learning management system (LMS). The field trial gives students and faculty access to Wiley's rich collection of learning content and tools directly within their online course environment.
The field trial involves students, faculty and campus administrators across 42 courses at two and four-year higher education institutions in the U.S. and Canada. More than 50 instructors and 2,900 students have been providing ongoing feedback on their experience with the integration that significantly enhances the use of Wiley's content within the Blackboard Learn(TM) platform.
Instructors have expressed great satisfaction with the integration, which lets them easily add digital content to their courses in Blackboard Learn and synchronize grades and other data from Wiley's research-based, online teaching-and-learning-environment, WileyPLUS.
"I can set up my Blackboard class and integrate WileyPLUS assignment links with Blackboard tools, like discussion boards," said Julie Porterfield, an Anatomy and Physiology instructor at Tulsa Community College. "Students can easily tell in what order they need to complete certain tasks and assignments. I have been using WileyPLUS for four years and so far, this semester is even more successful in terms of student use and tracking data."
Students using the solution have indicated they can now spend their time more effectively by having one place to do their studying and testing. "Blackboard Learn is a hub for coursework, and if you're taking a lot of different classes, it's nice to sign in to Blackboard Learn and be able to access everything you need," said John Andren, a student at George Mason University.
"We're excited to hear the positive reactions among users to this combined and integrated solution we've worked with Wiley to build," said Ray Henderson, Chief Technology Officer and President of Academic Platforms at Blackboard. "With this partnership we are delivering the most elegant form of integration between the LMS and digital learning content in the industry - making it easier for users to find, create and share high quality content."
"We're very pleased with what we've heard from customers in the field trial," said Joe Heider, Wiley's senior vice president, Global Education. "Students report that they are more effective in doing their coursework while instructors say that students are spending more time with the materials. Our partnership with Blackboard would help make WileyPLUS even easier to access and use. The Blackboard Learn integration would increase the value of WileyPLUS while offering even more students an affordable alternative to print."
Expected to be fully available globally in summer 2012, the solution would rely on the open education standard IMS Basic Learning Tools Interoperability (Basic LTI) and is built on the Blackboard Learn 9.1 platform, an open, extensive platform with an active development community and open APIs.
Nearly 2,000 institutions have adopted Blackboard Learn, Release 9.1, Blackboard's flagship learning management platform to take advantage of its improved stability, social learning tools to drive student engagement and digital content integrations and greater workflow efficiencies for instructors and administrators.

ClickSoftware Sparks Evolution in Business Mobility With its New ClickAppStore
Enables to Combine Discrete Apps Into Composite Apps to Form Mobile Business Solutions That Can Run on Most Smartphones and Tablets
BURLINGTON, Massachusetts, April 17, 2012/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
ClickSoftware Technologies Ltd. [http://www.clicksoftware.com ] (NasdaqGS: CKSW),
today announced the release of the new ClickAppStore
[http://www.clicksoftware.com/clickapp/home.html ], offering a rich variety of business
apps and a visual development studio to integrate discrete apps into composite apps,
sharing context and running streamlined workflows. Its built-in integration with
organizational back-office systems and business-grade mobility infrastructure, establishes
ClickAppStore as the most complete platform for enterprise mobility, and overcomes many of
the limitations of contemporary consumer-level AppStores. Now every mobile worker
[http://appstore.clicksoftware.com/csweb/appstore.nsf/pages/ClickAppStoreVideo ], from
field-service technicians to insurance agents, from healthcare workers to public safety
providers, from sales representatives to bankers and business executives, can boost their
productivity with a device of their choice.
Recognizing the unique characteristics of enterprise mobility, ClickSoftware built its
newest patent-pending innovation of mobility solutions around the following concepts:
Starter Packages for Basic Mobile Workers
The Mobile Worker Starter Package
[http://appstore.clicksoftware.com/csweb/appstore.nsf/mobileworker ] contains a subset of
integrated apps designed to cover the basic common needs of all mobile workers, such as
clock-in and clock-out, daily schedule, navigation help, job notes, and more. This
baseline provides an enterprise-class equivalent to the introductory apps one has when
opening the box of a new mobile device, but before downloading additional apps. The Mobile
Worker Starter Package serves as the cornerstone on which you can place additional apps
that you download from the ClickAppStore, or newly developed ones. In fact, using the
basic Mobile Worker Starter Package, the ClickSoftware team has already built additional
verticalized starter packages, such as the Field Service Starter Package
[http://appstore.clicksoftware.com/csweb/appstore.nsf/fieldservice ], which includes
Schedule, Timesheets, MyView, Performance, and MyShift apps. These can be further tailored
into specialized versions for cable technicians by adding, for example, Up-Selling, or
Remote Activation apps. Other examples of Starter Packages include the FieldSales Starter
Package designed to serve the needs of a traveling "door-to-door" sales person. In
addition, the Executive Dashboard Starter Package provides real time updates to a
travelling executive on key performance indicators of the business, such as number of jobs
completed, utilization, travel time/miles, customer service score, crisis emerging alerts,
and more. A complete listing of ClickApps and Starter Packages are available online
[http://appstore.clicksoftware.com/csweb/appstore.nsf/showapps ].
Developers' Easy-to-Use Visual Studio
In addition to its repository of numerous apps, ClickAppStore also includes an
integrated visual development studio that lets developers drag and drop apps from
ClickAppStore, and configure and interconnect them into streamlined workflows with the
starter package apps. It also offers tools to build the user interface on the mobile
device.
"Collaboration and communication among the mobile workforce has grown rapidly in
recent years as a variety of industries leverage the availability of smartphones and
tablet devices," said Nicholas McQuire, Research Director, Mobile Enterprise Strategies
EMEA for International Data Corporation (IDC). "ClickSoftware's development of an
enterprise AppStore will significantly improve the ability for organizations to manage and
unify their mobile and field services workforce. The ClickAppStore will be an attractive
option to a myriad of industries looking to overcome the 'Bring Your Own Device' issues
that are a fast rising headache for IT departments."
"For over a decade, we have been developing and deploying business mobility solutions
for some of the most advanced enterprises in the world. We have taken our experience,
knowledge and technology, repackaged it for the modern mobility world, and are now making
it available for all mobile workers - from office workers who travel occasionally, to
mobile workers who literally spend all their working time in the field; and from line
staff to managers and executives," said Dr. Moshe BenBassat, Chairman and CEO of
ClickSoftware. "We are enabling businesses of all sizes to take advantage of the new
tablets and smartphones to boost their productivity and improve customer service, by
transmitting and sharing data and decisions in real time, and we extend communication
outside of the enterprise as well - to the customers of our customers, contractors, and
suppliers," BenBassat added.
In a February 2012 report by Forrester Research Inc., entitled "Corporate App Store
Environments Open New Market Opportunities," author Michele Pelino writes: "Corporate app
store vendors must offer enterprises a range of delivery models to address demand for both
on-premises and 'as-a-service' delivery."
ClickSoftware's mobility solutions and ClickApps are available on-premises, on-demand,
or as a hybrid offering, providing flexibility for organizations, regardless of size or
budget. Furthermore, ClickSoftware offers to its customers the infrastructure to create
their own company's app-store, by 'carving out' for them a portion of ClickAppStore that
contains the apps that they license.
At the front end, the apps can be delivered as native apps, as HTML5 web apps, or in a
hybrid native-plus-web mode, even allowing the same user to run the app on several
different devices - for example, utility engineers using in-vehicle laptops and
smartphones at the work site. Therefore, ClickApps are device agnostic - making them
suitable for all organizations, including those that embrace a "bring your own device"
(BYOD) policy for the workforce. Moreover, in all modes, users can continue working even
while disconnected. All in all, this flexibility delivers maximum agility and
future-readiness for ClickAppStore customers.
ClickSoftware offers workshops for the customers'
[http://www.clicksoftware.com/about-us-customers.htm ] IT staff, System Integrators and
other developers - on how to use and expand the existing apps on the ClickAppStore.

settings of a new timeline. Users can compensate for different durations
and relationships of new media without creating multiple timeline
versions.

media fields and enter information into a single, simplified user
interface. Users will be able to see how new media assets and text
replacements will influence the Vegas Pro timeline.

of a Theme with real-time emulation, giving users insight into how their
Themes will behave on other users' editing environments.
Spectral Layers Feature Highlights:
-- Precise Audio Editing: Work with audio directly on the spectral display,
dividing or "un-mixing" audio files into discrete, user-defined layers
that can be processed independently and reintegrated to achieve perfect
master files. Users can also remove unwanted noises and artifacts while
leaving the surrounding audio data intact, perform pitch correction on
user-selected components of an audio file, and rearrange events in an
audio file.

range of user-defined sensitivities and tolerances, use Clone Stamp to
replace audio with new data selected from anywhere in the file, use
Harmonic Selection to intelligently select harmonics in user-defined
amounts and orders, and more.
-- Enterprise Edition: In addition to all of the aforementioned features,
users of the Enterprise Edition can import 32-bit 192 kHz files, create
multichannel audio files from a mono or stereo source file, and more.
Availability

GeckoSystems' Service Robot, the CareBot(tm), Addresses Care Giver Shortage for Japanese Elderly
Yahoo addresses multi-billion dollar Japanese market
CONYERS, Ga., April 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- GeckoSystems Intl. Corp. (Pink Sheets: GOSY | http://www.geckosystems.com/) -- announced today that they applaud multi-national electronics giant Panasonic's recognition of the need for utilitarian mobile service robots to assist Japan's rapidly growing elderly population.
GeckoSystems has successfully completed Alpha trials of its CareBot personal assistance robot for the elderly. It was tested in home care settings and received enthusiastic support from both caregivers and care receivers. The company believes that the CareBot will increase the safety and well-being the elderly world wide, relieving stress on the care giving family and government welfare institutions.
GeckoSystems is preparing for Beta testing of the CareBot prior to full-scale production and marketing. The CareBot has recently incorporated Microsoft Kinect depth cameras that result in a significant cost reduction.
Above, the CareBot demonstrates static and dynamic obstacle avoidance as it backs in and out of a narrow and cluttered alley. Unlike most of the developmental stage robots backed my major corporations, there is no joystick control or programmed path. GeckoNav(tm) uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create three low levels of obstacle avoidance: reactive, proactive, and contemplative. Subsumptive AI behavior enables the CareBot to reach its target destination after engaging in obstacle avoidance. GeckoSystems plans to provide robotic products for many consumer and commercial applications including security, defense and healthcare.
The CareBot has multiple layers of safety precautions. These safeguards are enabled three ways: mechanical, electronic, and using AI computer software.
-- The robot is very stable and difficult to tip over since nearly seventy
percent of its weight is less than eight inches above the floor and sits
low between large, ten-inch diameter wheels. The wheels are wide and
soft enough such that if the robot did go over a child's arm, for
example, it would not break the skin or any bones.
-- Multiple layers of sensors are fused to provide a safety umbrella to
enable actionable situational awareness. Going outward from the center
of the CareBot is the GeckoTactileShroud(tm), which detects where on its
shroud it has been bumped by people or animals. The GeckoImager(tm)
detects virtually everything in the front and to the sides of this fully
autonomous mobile robot up to sixty inches. Obstacles more distant are
detected by twin ultrasonic rangefinders.
-- The advanced AI navigation software, GeckoNav(tm), takes in the hundreds
of sensor readings per second and using its high level situational
awareness, consistently avoids unforeseen static and/or dynamic
obstacles for safe movements.
Like an automobile, the CareBot is made from steel, aluminum, plastic and electronics, but with up to 20 times the amount of software running. It has an aluminum frame, plastic shroud, two independently driven wheels, multiple sensor systems, microprocessors and several onboard computers connected by a local area network (LAN). The microprocessors directly interact with the sensor systems and transmit data to the onboard computers.
The onboard computers each run independent, highly specialized cooperative/subsumptive artificial intelligence (AI) software programs, GeckoSavants, which interact to complete tasks in a timely, intelligent and common sense manner. GeckoSuper(tm), GeckoNav(tm), GeckoChat(tm), GeckoScheduler(tm) and GeckoTrak(tm) are primary, high level GeckoSavants. GeckoNav is responsible for maneuvering, avoiding dynamic and/or static obstacles, seeking waypoints and patrolling.
GeckoChat is responsible for interaction with the care-receiver such as answering questions, assisting with daily routines and reminders, and responding to other verbal commands. GeckoTrak, which is mostly transparent to the user, enables the CareBot to maintain proximity to the care-receiver using sensor fusion. The CareBot is a new type of Internet appliance, a personal assistant life support robot, which is accessible for remote video/audio monitoring and telepresence.
Market Research
At the time GeckoSystems was founded, over 14 years ago, they did extensive primary market research to determine the demographic profile of the early adopters of the proposed CareBot product. Subsequently, they have assembled numerous focus groups to evaluate the fit of the CareBot(tm) personal robot into the participant's lives and their expected usage. The Company has also frequently employed the Delphi market research methodology, contacting and interviewing senior executives, practitioners and researchers knowledgeable in the area of elder care. This primary and secondary market research, supplemented by extensive third party material that is available from researchers worldwide is the statistical substance for the Company's sales forecasts.
Not surprisingly, scientific statistical analysis reveals that the elderly over 65 living alone in metropolitan areas access to broadband internet and sufficient household income were identified as those most likely to adopt initially. Due to the high cost of assisted living, nursing homes, etc. the payback for a CareBot is expected to be only seven to nine months, with an added benefit of keeping elderly care receivers independent, in their own long time homes, and living longer due to the comfort and safety of more frequent attention from their loved ones.
The Projected Consumer Market Size In Dollars For Cost Effective, Utilitarian, Multitasking Eldercare Personal Robots:
Year Percentage Projected Sales
---- ---------- ---------------
2013 0.06% $22 million
---- ---- -----------
2014 0.03% $44 million
---- ---- -----------
2015 0.22% $176 million
---- ---- ------------
2016 0.53% $440.2 million
---- ---- --------------
2017 0.81% $704.3 million

"The Company expects these domestic sales despite --and perhaps because of-- the recent Great Recession due to pent up demand for significant cost reduction in eldercare expenses. The foregoing forecasts do not include sales in non-metropolitan areas; elderly couples over 65 (only elderly living alone are in these forecasts); those chronically ill --regardless of age-- or elderly living with their adult children, " summarized Martin Spencer, President/CEO, GeckoSystems Intl. Corp.
About GeckoSystems Intl. Corp.:
GeckoSystems has been developing innovative robotic technology for over fourteen years. It is CEO Martin Spencer's dream to make people's lives better through robotic technology.
Although the company's primary focus has been an elder care robot, the CareBot(tm), AI (artificial intelligence) software technology developed for this project is being marketed internationally. The company believes many devices in use today can be improved through the use of its AI navigation software system. The company expects their "SafePath Enabled" wheelchair and an upgrade for existing wheelchairs will be on the market sometime in 2012.
The Company's "mobile robot solutions for safety, security and service" are appropriate not only for the consumer, but also professional healthcare, commercial security and defense markets. Professional healthcare require cost effective, timely errand running, portable telemedicine, etc. Homeland Security requires cost effective mobile robots to patrol and monitor public venues for weapons and WMD detection. Military users desire the elimination of the "man in the loop" to enable unmanned ground and air vehicles to not require constant human control and/or intervention.
GeckoSystems stock is quoted in the U.S. over-the-counter (OTC) markets, on the Pink OTC Current Information tier, under the ticker symbol GOSY.
