Alcatel-Lucent Expands 100G leadership Further with New Innovations to Dramatically Enhance Optical Network Performance
Latest additions to Alcatel-Lucent's family of optical solutions will enable service providers to extend 100 gigabits-per-second signals over considerably longer distances and across fiber of any quality
PARIS, Dec. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced a major advance to its global leadership in 100G optical networking by introducing a breakthrough in single-carrier coherent technology that will extend optical signals over distances far greater than has been possible before, even over poor quality fiber. This latest addition to the company's portfolio is designed to enhance the ability of communications service providers to address exploding demand for high-bandwidth services like video and fixed and mobile broadband.
Alcatel-Lucent is to offer a new premium card, the 100G eXtended Reach (XR), which employs techniques developed at Bell Labs to monitor and maintain the quality of optical signals. The 100G XR card will be the first solution on the market capable of substantially extending the range, performance and capacity of 100G optical networks, while cutting building and operating costs.
This premium card, which will be commercially available by year end, will be offered on the Alcatel-Lucent 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS), the centrepiece of the company's optical transport portfolio. The Alcatel-Lucent 100G XR marks a substantial improvement for service providers with specific distance and capacity requirements, being able to transmit a combination of 10G, 40G and 100G rates on different wavelengths of an optical fiber for up to 2000 kilometers and beyond, providing up to 30 percent increase in reach. Alcatel-Lucent's solution also offers exceptional performance over poor quality fiber giving service providers the ability to deploy 100G anywhere they want, when they want it, and at a substantial cost savings.
One of the first customers of the 1830 PSS is Australia's Nextgen Networks. Michael Ackland, the company's Strategic Development Manager said: "We at Nextgen Networks have deployed the 1830 PSS platform on the Commonwealth Government's Regional Backhaul Blackspots Program, and were the first to successfully demonstrate 100G coherent optical DWDM & IP in Asia on the Broken Hill link. The ability to deploy 10/40/100G on the same platform is of uppermost importance to us as it will keep our network flexible. We are looking forward to the enhanced 100G from Alcatel-Lucent to keep Nextgen Networks data transport network the most advanced and innovative in this region."
Delivering enormous bandwidth supporting 100G rates on each wavelength on an optical fiber, the 1830 PSS can support the transfer of over 100,000 MP3 files in 60 seconds or to stream 15,000 HDTV channels concurrently. To meet the ever-growing demand for such services and applications, operators need to be able to continually increase bandwidth, while maintaining exceptional transmission quality and keeping costs in check. A key part of Alcatel-Lucent's answer to this challenge is allowing its customers to deploy far fewer complex components in their network by reducing the need for regeneration, which is a costly method currently used to extend the reach of optical communications links. Reducing this need offers very substantial cost savings and further decreases the cost to deliver a bit of data.
Eve Griliches, a leading expert on optical networking with ACG Research said: "Sheer bandwidth was one of the early drivers for 100G, and still is today. The need for spectral efficiency and increasing distance is now coupled with the need for more flexible and cost effective optical transmission networks. This will widen the addressable market and give service providers more options. It will also lead to increasing adoption and ultimately, better economics for 100G. Alcatel-Lucent's 100G enhancement is a positive step towards enabling the service provider community to move in this direction."
James Watt, President of Alcatel-Lucent's Optics Division, said: "We currently have more than 45 customers using our current 100G single carrier, coherent optical solution and we've used this experience to create a premium offering with improved performance, well before our competitors have even delivered their first-generation product. We are encouraging the acceleration of 100G by alleviating the distance and underlying fiber barriers and allowing any service provider in the world to deploy 100G precisely where they need it, with no trade off in capacity."
The 100G optical solution on the 1830 PSS is a single-carrier coherent system, which means it uses a single carrier wavelength to transmit the data down a fiber resulting in higher bandwidth, better performance and lower cost when compared to dual carrier solutions. Alcatel-Lucent's 100G single carrier coherent solution features an electro-optics engine which was developed based on innovations from Bell Labs, the company's R&D arm. This electro-optics engine, which features an in-house developed silicon chipset and field-proven signal processing algorithms, is designed with fewer components and less complexity than competing products, delivering substantial benefits in terms of performance, as well as significant space and power savings.
This 1830 PSS is a key element of the Alcatel-Lucent High Leverage Network(TM) (HLN) architecture, which is designed to provide massive capacity while slashing transport costs and dramatically reducing operational complexity in core networks.

"The combination of Tech Mahindra's exceptional technological and R&D expertise with
FTS' innovative technology and products creates a powerhouse of a PCRF solution," said
Amos Sivan, CEO, FTS. "This partnership further strengthens and extends the reach of our
solution delivery capabilities and represents our global progression as we continue to

With mobile broadband speeds, AT&T customers can surf the Web, download files faster, and enjoy the very latest interactive mobile applications.
"These investments in mobile broadband will be a great help in improving our business climate throughout northeast Ohio," said State Senator Joe Schiavoni. "Businesses looking to expand or relocate expect the latest in wireless technology. Because we can provide this cutting-edge technology, our area is in a better position to compete for good-paying jobs and it will improve the state's business climate as a whole."
The new cell sites are one part of AT&T's ongoing efforts to drive investment and innovation to deliver the nation's best, most advanced mobile broadband experience for customers. With the nation's fastest mobile broadband network, AT&T provides accelerated mobile data speeds and simultaneous voice and data capabilities.
AT&T has also expanded wireless capacity. This network enhancement adds new layers of frequency, also known as "carriers," to nine of the cell sites in Trumbull County to more efficiently manage available spectrum and increase mobile broadband capacity. The expansion helps manage ever-growing demand for mobile broadband services by allocating more network resources for AT&T's mobile broadband network.
"Adding spectrum to a cell site is like adding lanes to a highway," said Larry Evans, vice president and general manager, AT&T Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. "These additional radio carriers will bolster the voice and data experience for our customers. The mobile broadband enhancements we've made in Trumbull County are just one part of the more than $200 million we've invested in our Ohio wireless and wireline networks in 2011."
To-date in 2011 in Ohio, AT&T has added more than 50 new cell sites to improve network coverage, upgraded over 130 existing cell sites to provide faster mobile broadband speeds, and added capacity or an extra layer of frequency to more than 360 cell sites.

If approved, this deal means that we'll be able to expand the next generation of mobile broadband - 4G LTE - from our current plan of 80 percent of the U.S. population to more than 97 percent."

"Adding spectrum to a cell site is like adding lanes to a highway," said Larry Evans, vice president and general manager, AT&T Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. "These additional radio carriers will bolster the voice and data experience for our customers. The mobile broadband enhancements we've made in Lima and the surrounding communities are just one part of the more than $200 million we've invested in our Ohio wireless and wireline networks in 2011."
To-date in 2011 in Ohio, AT&T has added more than 50 new cell sites to improve network coverage, upgraded over 130 existing cell sites to provide faster mobile broadband speeds, and added capacity or an extra layer of frequency to more than 360 cell sites.
"As part of the Lima community, we're always looking for new opportunities to provide enhanced coverage, and our investment in the local wireless network is just one way we're accomplishing that," said Tom Pelto, President, AT&T Ohio. "In addition, our recently announced agreement to acquire T-Mobile USA represents a major commitment to strengthen and expand our network. If approved, this deal means that we'll be able to expand the next generation of mobile broadband - 4G LTE - from our current plan of 80 percent of the U.S. population to more than 97 percent."
AT&T's mobile broadband network is based on the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) family of technologies that includes GSM and UMTS, the most widely used wireless network platforms in the world. AT&T has the broadest international coverage of any U.S. wireless provider, providing access to voice service in more than 225 countries and data service in more than 200 countries. AT&T also offers voice and data roaming coverage on more than 135 major cruise ships, as well as mobile broadband services in more than 130 countries.
AT&T also operates the nation's largest Wi-Fi network** with more than 29,000 hotspots in the U.S. and provides access to nearly 190,000 hotspots globally through roaming agreements. Most AT&T smartphone customers get access to our entire national Wi-Fi network at no additional cost, and Wi-Fi usage doesn't count against customers' monthly wireless data plans.

KLA-Tencor Introduces Additions to SensArray(TM) Portfolio of Semiconductor In-Situ Process Monitoring Solutions
Wireless Temperature Monitoring Wafers Designed to Improve Return on Investment (ROI) of Process Equipment
MILPITAS, Calif., Dec. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- KLA-Tencor Corporation (NASDAQ: KLAC), the world's leading supplier of process control and yield management solutions for the semiconductor and related industries, today introduced new additions to its SensArray portfolio of advanced wireless temperature monitoring wafers. The portfolio implements time-based, in-situ temperature monitoring to capture the effect of the process environment on production wafers, which helps integrated circuit (IC) manufacturers improve their capital equipment ROI.
Developed through collaboration with leading IC manufacturers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), the EtchTemp(TM)-SE (ET-SE), ScannerTemp(TM) and WetTemp(TM)-LP products enable customers to monitor temperature information across the entire wafer surface under real process conditions. Advanced semiconductor manufacturing processes have greater sensitivity to temperature, and, consequently, monitoring temperature variation has become a more critical component of semiconductor production.
Process and equipment engineers utilize SensArray thermal information in several ways:
-- Tracking temperature variation data enables faster root cause analysis
of process excursions and detects trends that indicate possible future
excursions.
-- Temperature variation between multiple equipment sets is a critical
parameter in the qualification of tools, thus enabling faster production
ramps.
-- Wafer surface temperature monitoring is an indicator of manufacturing
equipment performance. This information helps IC manufacturers ensure
equipment health, thus enabling them to increase equipment uptime and
reduce tool maintenance costs and cost of ownership.
"KLA-Tencor's SensArray products enable customers to significantly improve uptime of critical manufacturing equipment and improve process uniformity," stated Dr. Lena Nicolaides, vice president and general manager of the SensArray-VLSI Division of KLA-Tencor's Growth and Emerging Markets (GEM) Group. "Today customers are investing $4 billion or more to start a 32nm fab; implementing tools like KLA-Tencor's wireless temperature monitoring products allow IC manufacturers to improve their return on this investment by enabling a faster production ramp and more effective use of capital."
Released Products:
-- EtchTemp-SE (ET-SE)
Complementary to the industry-leading EtchTemp product, ET-SE delivers temperature wafer monitoring during silicon etch processes, providing temperature measurements with a higher signal-to-noise ratio than alternative methods. By characterizing thermal conditions that closely represent product wafer conditions, ET-SE assists in matching front-end-of-line etch chambers and qualifying electrostatic chucks.
-- ScannerTemp
ScannerTemp allows highly accurate temperature monitoring of dry and immersion lithography systems, whose overlay performance is highly sensitive to thermal variation. With a flat, standard-thickness wafer format, it offers a sensor-to-sensor range of 0.03 degrees C in a 20-24 degrees C operating range - enabling temperature monitoring not previously available.
-- WetTemp-LP
While prior-generation wet clean systems were compatible with SensArray SensorWafers(TM) thicker than standard product wafers, many new wet clean systems used in IC manufacturing require monitor wafers of standard thickness. The new WetTemp-LP is designed to be compatible with both single wafer and batch wet clean systems that require this standard-thickness wafer form factor. Integrating multiple temperature sensors, the WetTemp-LP provides rich spatial data to allow users to improve productivity and matching of wet clean systems.
KLA-Tencor also introduced BaseStation 300Z, a storage solution featuring a smart Front Opening Universal Pod (FOUP). This provides customers a clean and convenient environment for storage, charging and data transfer of the EtchTemp (dielectric etch), EtchTemp-SE (silicon etch), ScannerTemp and WetTemp-LP wafers.
KLA-Tencor's broad portfolio of SensArray products are currently in use by IC manufacturers throughout the world, and the new product suite is immediately available. All KLA-Tencor inspection and metrology tools are supported by KLA-Tencor's global, comprehensive service network. For more information, please visit http://www.kla-tencor.com.

Special Needs Child Care Training at No Cost for "Inclusive Schools Week"
DULUTH, Ga., Dec. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- ChildCare Education Institute (CCEI), an IACET approved, nationally accredited, distance training institution dedicated exclusively to the child care and education workforce, offers the online course CCEI968: "Inclusion and Children with Special Needs" at no cost for the week of December 5 - 9, 2011, in support of Inclusive Schools Week.
In the past decade, issues surrounding inclusion and special needs have become more of a focus in the early childhood environment. This is due in part to the fact that more children are now enrolled in preschool than ever before, especially through publicly funded programs such as Head Start, which by law must be inclusionary. Increased awareness of special needs also increases as research into the benefits of early intervention and individualized strategies becomes clearer and more persuasive.
Participants will identify several types of common potential developmental delays or other signs that may warrant professional referrals, and participants will examine basic strategies for adapting classrooms and learning centers in order to accommodate children with diverse needs. This no-cost course is extended to all in order to promote widespread education onInclusion and Children with Special Needs. There is no cost to set up a CCEI account and instructions are provided by clicking the link above.
"CCEI has introduced several courses on inclusion in response to demand from educators and families," said Maria C. Taylor, President and CEO of CCEI. "Research has proven there are important, straightforward strategies for helping young children with diverse needs to maximize their potential. We are honored to promote inclusiveness in our online courses and hope everyone has the opportunity to take advantage of this invaluable course offering."

South West Trains Launch Mobile Website to Improve Passenger Information
LONDON, December 5, 2011/PRNewswire/ --
- New mobile website now available, packed with useful information
- Journey check email alerts tailored to individual needs
- Part of overall package to improve passenger information
South West Trains has today, Monday 5th December, launched a mobile browsing site
[http://mobile.usablenet.com/mt/www.southwesttrains.co.uk ] to make it easier and quicker
for passengers on the move to access the latest information. The scheme is part of a wider
strategy to improve passenger communication, which has also recently included the launch
of a dedicated Twitter @SW_Trains feed and Journey Check Alerts.
The new mobile site can be easily accessed on smartphones and gives passengers a quick
and easy way to check train times (with Journey Planner and live train information),
station information (including a map to show how to get there), travel news, information
about how to get in touch and all the latest offers.
To complement the new mobile website, South West Trains has also introduced a
personalised email alert to communicate any disruption directly and quickly to passengers.
Journey Check Alerts is a facility which advises passengers on whether their regular train
is likely to be disrupted. Commuters can register online and choose a combination of time
and locations to receive personalised alerts and follow up.
Jake Kelly, Customer Service Director for South West Trains, said: "We know that more
and more of our passengers are using their mobile phones to access real time information
on our services, and also to use sites like Twitter to stay in touch with us. So we wanted
to make it as straightforward for them as possible, and developed the mobile site designed
for people on the move."
South West Trains also announced earlier this autumn the deployment of BlackBerrys to
850 employees to ensure that its front line staff have access to accurate and up-to-date
information.
- Plan your journey with the journey planner
- Get live travel information such as disruptions, departure & arrival times and
Tube info

New I/O Extension Module Adds Analog and Digital I/O Processing Capabilities to FPGA Computing Boards
Acromag's new AXM-A75 multi-function I/O module plugs into their PMC and XMC FPGA cards to provide front-end A/D conversion, D/A outputs, and discrete level monitoring/control functions.
WIXOM, Mich., Dec. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The new AXM-75 is a multi-function I/O extension module that adds A/D, D/A, and digital I/O signal processing functions to a FPGA processor board. Acromag's extension I/O modules plug directly onto their PMC and XMC reconfigurable FPGA cards equipped with an AXM mezzanine connector. Using the AXM-A75, engineers can interface a number of high-level analog voltage signals to and from the FPGA. TTL-level digital I/O channels can monitor and control discrete devices. A 68-pin VHDCI receptacle provides easy field I/O connections. The operating range is -40 to 85 degrees C. Typical uses include hardware simulation, in-circuit diagnostics, machine control, signal intelligence, and image processing. List price is $1700.
"The AXM-A75 multi-function I/O module simplifies the interface between an FPGA and sensors or controllers," explained Joseph Primeau, Acromag's sales and marketing director. AXM extension modules like the AXM-A75 provide a convenient method to interface real-world signals to and from the FPGA for high-speed measurement and control operations.
There are sixteen differential analog input channels on the AXM-A75. Each input has its own high-speed 16-bit 250kHz A/D converter offering the ability to simultaneously sample all channels. A low-pass filter removes unwanted EMI. The input range is +/-10 volts with programmable gain of 1x, 2x, 4x, or 8x. Serial FLASH memory stores the factory calibration constants.
Two quad DAC devices drive eight analog output channels with a range of +/- 10V. Each channel has its own high-speed 16-bit D/A converter which allows updating of individual channels or all outputs simultaneously. The D/A settling time is 10microS.
Sixteen bi-directional digital I/O channels provide the ability to read or write 5V logic levels on TTL devices. Each I/O channel is individually configurable as an input or output for great flexibility to match your requirements. The open drain outputs are pulled high via a pull-up resistor.

Bell Pottinger Group has launched a free mobile and web-based game to kick-off early
festive celebrations with its staff and clients.
Called Festive Dash, the game has been developed in-house and sees a penguin, snowman
and elf embark on a quest to save Christmas by collecting presents that fall from a hole
in Santa's sleigh.
Both the iPhone app and web-based game have been developed by the group's specialist
digital and social media team, Bell Pottinger Digital, which has been busy promoting it at
a charity event organised by Richard House Children's Hospice. Aptly called Penguin Dash,
the event saw more than 300 people running through Spitalfields in London, all dressed as
Penguins. A 10-penguin team from Bell Pottinger Digital raised GBP500 for Richard House
Children's Hospice (http://www.richardhouse.org.uk), which cares for children with
life-threatening illnesses across the capital.
Bell Pottinger is also making donations to ShelterBox (http://www.shelterbox.org),
the international disaster relief charity, and The Calthorpe Project ( http://www.calthorpeproject.org.uk), a community garden and centre in the heart of
Kings Cross - both of which are supported by its group companies.
David Wilson, Group Managing Director of Bell Pottinger, said: "Festive Dash is a fun
game we've designed to thank clients and staff for giving us another wonderful year. It
will get everyone into the festive spirit, from Chief Executives to children, and having
been developed in-house, demonstrates the creative talent that exists within our Bell
Pottinger team. Festive Dash replaces our Christmas cards, which quickly become obsolete,
enabling us to both donate and raise money for good causes, and reduce our carbon
footprint."
Festive Dash is based around an addictive gameplay, where the user controls three
characters at the same time, similar to the mechanic of the gaming-phenomena, Guitar Hero.
To complete the seven-level-challenge, gamers need to collect as many presents as
possible, jumping obstacles including wooden hurdles, holly bushes and rocks. The more
accurate the jump, the more points earned. To pass the level with three gold stars, all
presents must be collected and all obstacles avoided.
The game's iPhone app version has been developed natively using Objective-C and is
available to download for free in the Apple App Store. A leaderboard is powered by Apple's
Game Centre and keeps a record of highest scores globally or within users' individual
networks. It took just under 10 days to develop, with the design delivered by Naked
Penguin Boy, an independent digital creative agency.
James Thomlinson, Head of Digital at Bell Pottinger Digital, said: "We had great fun
developing Festive Dash and wanted to produce a game that uses the latest mobile
technology. It is easy to pick-up but hard to master, and will appeal to the mass market.
We've no expectation on the number of downloads, so spread the word and help us get as
many as possible."
Festive Dash fans can also check-out Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/festivedash
) and Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/festivedash), where the penguin, snowman and elf
will be answering questions about their involvement in Festive Dash and their prospects of
getting picked for 2012!
Notes to editors:
ShelterBox (http://www.shelterbox.org) is an international disaster relief
charity, which delivers emergency shelter, warmth and dignity to people affected by
disaster worldwide. ShelterBox has been adopted for fund-raising by Bell Pottinger North
during 2011.
The Calthorpe Project (http://www.calthorpeproject.org.uk) is a community garden
and centre in Grays Inn Road, where people grow and learn together taking care of each
other and the environment. It has been part of Chime Communications' CSR Program since
2010 and a few months ago it lost their entire funding from Camden Council. This amounts
to GBP80k per year, which was vital to the project and, as a result, its excellent work as
a community support centre is seriously threatened. The funding ends in December 2011 and
The Calthorpe Project is in the process of putting together various initiatives which it
hopes will enable the project to be self-sufficient in the future.
Bell Pottinger (http://www.bell-pottinger.co.uk) is an international, full-service

Infra Cloud Receptionist Starts at $9.99 a Month Via Cloud Service Providers, Works with Existing Landline and Cell Phones
RENTON, Wash., Dec. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Infratel, a leading provider of telephony services for the small business market, today announced the launch of Infra Cloud Receptionist - a Cloud-based telephony service that arms small businesses with a more professional and connected approach to incoming calls using their own 1-800 number and existing landline and mobile phones.
The new service provides a feature-rich, virtual front-office phone system that gives small businesses the ability to remain responsive and professional even when employees are unavailable to take every call. Fast and easy set-up and low costs are unique benefits of the Infra Cloud Receptionist. An efficient web-based interface provides customers with easy-to-use controls giving them access to everything they need to manage incoming calls, freeing their time to be spent on business objectives rather than IT administration.
"We are enabling hosting companies to deliver a solution that provides their SMB customers a professional phone presence. This phone presence complements their professional web presence and can be bundled to create value for the SMB and stickiness for the hoster," said Craig Ball, head of sales for Infratel's North American operations. "Only 50 percent of all SMBs in the U.S. currently use a PBX system, and only seven percent are tapping the benefits of a hosted or virtual solution. We believe our solution will help SMBs project the professional image they desire without all the cost and complexity normally associated with PBX and hosted systems."
At launch, Infra Cloud Receptionist will offer three separate tiers of service and pricing including: a Starter package that's priced at $9.99 per month, the Growing package at $29.99 per month and the Bustling package at $99.99 per month. More details on each of these packages can be viewed at the company's website at http://www.infratel.com
Unlike other cloud voice providers on the market today, Infratel is taking a unique position by partnering with cloud service enablement leader Parallels to offer Infra Cloud Receptionist to customers via thousands of cloud service providers. Infra Cloud Receptionist will also be available directly to SMB customers via http://www.infratel.com/store.
"Small businesses have become extremely savvy about the cost and service benefits of hosted solutions and are increasingly looking to cloud service providers for new offerings," said John Zanni, vice president of service provider alliances and marketing at Parallels. "We make it easy for our Parallels Automation partners to offer and manage the Infra Cloud receptionist service their SMB customers want."
Robson Communications Inc., a cloud service provider that's among the first to offer the hosted service, say that there's already a built-up demand for affordable phone systems in the small business marketplace.
"Small business owners come to us for solutions that enable them to reduce existing overhead costs. Infra Call Receptionist provides a win-win as it not only brings down their costs but also delivers higher-quality telephony presence," said Martin Robson, CEO at Robson Communications.
About Infratel
Infratel was founded in 1999 by managers and engineers from Genesys Labs (now an Alcatel-Lucent company) who had witnessed, firsthand, the challenges small- to mid-sized companies face with shrinking budgets and increasing demands. From its inception, Infratel's goal has been to offer a world-class suite of contact center and interaction solutions designed primarily for small- and medium-sized businesses.
The company's flagship product, Infra Call Center, is a pure SIP-based application built on Microsoft Windows Server. Its corporate telephony solution, Infra CommSuite, is one of only a few Microsoft Windows Server-based IP PBX solutions available. Both were developed to help executives, IT departments and call center managers to truly do more with less through innovative technology. Worldwide, Infratel has more than 700 customers and 10,000 users.

Independa Introduces Artemis(TM) - Integrated Health, Safety and Activity Monitoring for the Independent Elderly
Artemis(TM) Completes the Most Integrated - and Easy-to-Use -Telecare Offering for Supported Independence at mHealth Summit
SAN DIEGO, Dec. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Independa(TM), Inc. today announced plans for the Independa Artemis(TM) platform of health, safety and activity sensors to complete its integrated telecare suite for the independent elderly and their professional or family caregivers. Artemis debuts this week at the 2011 mHealth Summit in National Harbor, Md.
Artemis, which Independa plans to launch early next year, will be fully integrated with and complement Independa's current best-of-breed solutions: the Independa Caregiver Web App and Angela(TM), the touchscreen-based, in-residence social engagement platform.
Artemis will connect sensors to monitor vital signs, safety and home conditions via a wireless hub to Independa's cloud solution. Care providers will use the Caregiver Web App to track care recipients' well-being remotely, while recipients interact using Angela.
The new monitoring platform will expand caregivers' ability to help the elderly continue living healthy, safe, rewarding lives in their own residences through simple, cost-effective virtual care. Knowing how their patients or loved ones are doing in real time enables remote caregivers to serve more care recipients, gain critical peace of mind, and intervene if necessary.
"Independa Artemis, in conjunction with our other cloud-based integrated telecare offerings, delivers on our vision of providing Independa customers and channel partners the most integrated solution for supported independence," said Independa CEO Kian Saneii. "Artemis is designed to deliver the next level of home monitoring, versus traditional methods and technologies. It will seamlessly integrate health, safety and activity information to provide virtual caregivers unprecedented visibility across multiple aspects of health and well-being."
Independa's new, integrated monitoring solution is tailor-made for the non-technical elderly. Running as an out-of-the-box, power-and-play suite of home sensors, Artemis will support a custom package of monitors preconfigured to the individual's activities and daily challenges. Sensors will include an ear thermometer, blood pressure cuff, weight scale, pulse oximeter, glucometer, passive infrared (PIR) motion sensor, door sensor, panic button and pressure pad, as well as sensors to detect flooding, toilet flushing, room temperature, smoke, and carbon monoxide.
Meticulously developed for aging adults, Artemis will offer wireless sensors and connectivity to the Internet, where Independa will aggregate information collected from the in-residence sensors. Users won't need to worry about pairing or matching devices with a wireless hub or computer because the sensors will be paired prior to shipment. Artemis will convert raw data into integrated, actionable knowledge.
In support of this solution, Independa announced a partnership with Boston Life Labs LLC. Independa will include in Artemis Boston Life Labs Smart Medical Home Hbox Hub and other plug-and-play wireless telehealth sensors.
"Boston Life Labs is excited to enable and support Independa's Artemis offering," said Boston Life Labs CEO Richard Binier. "We believe that this combination of innovative technical efforts will provide significant value to the older adult population in the home environment."
"Trillions of dollars of infrastructure development in the U.S. would be required to build and equip facilities to house the tsunami of seniors who are reaching the age of fragility and dependence," said Robert B. McCray, President & CEO of the Wireless-Life Sciences Alliance (WLSA).
"Staffing those facilities is an additional expense, and seniors want to live independently as long as possible. Fortunately, the smart combination of technology and applications in Independa's platform will enable fragile seniors to extend their period of independent living and caregivers to extend their services to a greater number of clients. This blend of consumer satisfaction and institutional efficiency is a winning combination."
Independa Artemis(TM) builds on and enhances Independa's existing offerings, launched earlier this year:
-- Independa Angela - Personal Interaction Device for the Care Receiver -
Adds single-touch access to games, puzzles, favorite websites, health
metrics reporting, a photo album with picture frame capabilities, a
calendar planner, and social engagement features from simple video Web
chat to Facebook and email connectivity.
-- Independa Caregiver Web App - Cloud-based Web Application of Caregivers
- Uses patent-pending technology to enable caregivers to create
automatic reminders for care receivers to take their medications, keep
medical and social appointments, and record ever-popular "Life Stories."
Independa Artemis is scheduled for beta testing in February and general availability in Q2 2012 and will be sold through Independa partners.
Independa, Inc. provides an integrated telecare platform to help professional and family caregivers enable their care recipients to continue living at the residence of their choice longer, more safely and more comfortably. Independa supports home-care and other professional enterprises offering remote care, assisted living, and home health care. With Independa, care recipients can delay or even eliminate the costly and dreaded move to significantly more expensive and cumbersome levels of care.
Independa's cross-disciplined leadership team and expert advisory board intimately understand the market, technology and needs of the elderly and their caregivers.
