Universal "Best Western to Go" App Allows Travelers to Plan Trips, Book Hotels Worldwide, and Share Adventures with Friends and Family

PHOENIX, Jan. 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Planning and managing travel just got easier for the more than 7.5 million iPad users, with the recent introduction of Best Western International's free application, "Best Western to Go." Travelers using the iPad application can not only find and book reservations at more than 4,000 Best Western hotels worldwide, but may also share travel experiences and pictures with loved ones and friends along the way via email or Facebook.

Additionally, "Best Western to Go" users can create itineraries to help with travel planning by inputting addresses of attractions and restaurants nearby and using the GPS-enabled map to navigate through the area.  The app's trip saver tool allows users to save past or future trips, including favorite locations visited traveling--from a shopping venue to a convenient parking spot.

Other "Best Western to Go" features include:

According to a survey of 2,000 households conducted by Strategy Analytics, 13 percent of current pay TV subscribers surveyed say they are "somewhat" or "very" likely to cancel their current subscription in the next twelve months with no intention of moving to another provider.  The driving force for this trend is that more and more consumers are accessing digital entertainment online by streaming high definition content to their Internet connected TV.  Responding to this trend, Pay TV providers are attempting to reduce churn by developing new user interfaces that combine a wide range of Internet-based content along with their subscription services; providing easier access to varied content and creating new revenue streams.

Sandy Bridge, Now With DRM?

There's an article at CNET that says the new Sandy Bridge CPUs have new security features to prevent you from viewing content you own. I see, we've come full circle. Now the computer can tell you how to operate instead of the other way around.

Wait, I should be excited by this? Why should I be excited by technology that disabled my ability to do something? What they call security is shoddy DRM. Looks like the Hollywood dream of end-to-end encryption is nearly here. Thanks for the help, Intel!

LUBBOCK, Texas, Jan. 3, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The MED Group, a Managed Health Care Associates, Inc. (MHA) Company, announces the creation of http://www.medicaresuppliersnetwork.com.  The website was created to help answer questions for Medicare beneficiaries and referral sources, such as physician offices, about competitive bidding and how patients can receive their medical equipment under this new program.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will be implementing a new program January 1, 2011 that will make drastic changes to how Medicare beneficiaries receive their medical equipment. Presently, Medicare beneficiaries and referral sources are allowed to choose a medical equipment supplier of their choice. The new program called "competitive bidding" will reduce and limit the number of medical equipment companies that can provide equipment to traditional Medicare beneficiaries. This program does not affect any patients who are on a Medicare Advantage Plan or traditional insurance. CMS was mandated by Congress to create this program to help control Medicare costs and lower out of pocket expenses for seniors.

In the Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario area approximately 85-90% of medical equipment companies will be excluded from providing equipment to traditional Medicare beneficiaries. This program is limited to all or part of the two counties surrounding the Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario area and is based on the zip code of the patient. The area includes all or part of the following counties- San Bernardino and Riverside. There is an estimated 440,000 Medicare beneficiaries living within the Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario competitive bidding area.

Any traditional Medicare beneficiary living in the two counties (according to their zip code) will be required to use a medical equipment company from the approved list of contracted medical equipment suppliers for the following product categories:

    --  Oxygen Equipment and Supplies
    --  Standard Power Wheelchairs, Scooters, and Related Accessories
    --  Complex Rehabilitative Power Wheelchairs and Related Accessories -
        (Certain products)
    --  Mail Order Replacement Diabetic Supplies - Mail Order Only

Medicare beneficiaries currently receiving medical equipment from a local company may be able in certain situations to continue to receive the equipment from their present company. If the beneficiary has any questions they should contact their medical equipment company. SPiDCOM Presents its HomePlug AV Reference Designs at CES 2011

PARIS, January 3, 2011/PRNewswire/ --     SPiDCOM, the "no-limits" powerline communication silicon provider, will
display the reference designs based on its unique HomePlugAV certified open
platform. It will also demonstrate the first implementation of the Broadband
Forum's TR-069 model for HomePlugAV devices.

    SPiDCOM, the fabless semiconductor company specializing in
open solutions for anywire broadband communications, enriches its suite of
HomePlugAV standard based reference designs. At CES 2011, it will present the
SPR300-AV and introduce the SPR310-AV.

    Based on the HomePlugAV powerline communication specification
- now an IEEE 1901 standard -the SPR300-AV and SPR310-AV enable whole-home
HD-quality entertainment over the existing electrical wires.

    While SPR300-AV is based on the SPC300 "No-limits" HomePlugAV
SoC, the SPR310-AV uses the SPC310 cost optimised package.

    The SPR300-AV has a gigabit Ethernet port, a "pass-through"
design with a noise filter and an integrated socket; whereas the SPR310-AV
was designed to enable a specific Ethernet 100Mbps bridging at lower cost.

    The SPR300-AV and SPR310-AV originality lies in their open
platform approach. Both reference designs embed an ARM9 processor integrated
inside the SoC. SPiDCOM provides source code of the Linux based firmware and
development tools so that its customers can run their own applications,
without having to add a costly external processor, resulting to BoM savings
up to 30%.

    This openness enables OEM differentiation leading to more
sophisticated HomePlugAV end-products.

    During CES 2011, SPiDCOM will show the world's first
implementation of the Broadband Forum's TR-069 model for HomePlugAV devices;
the TR-069 application running on the embedded ARM9.

    Enabling remote management of the home network, SPiDCOM's
solutions lowers Service Provider's operational costs.

New Program for Medicare Beneficiaries Will Mean Major Changes Effective January 1, 2011

LUBBOCK, Texas, Jan. 3, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The MED Group, a Managed Health Care Associates, Inc. (MHA) Company, announces the creation of http://www.medicaresuppliersnetwork.com. The website was created to help answer questions for Medicare beneficiaries and referral sources, such as physician offices, about competitive bidding and how patients can receive their medical equipment under this new program.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will be implementing a new program January 1, 2011 that will make drastic changes to how Medicare beneficiaries receive their medical equipment. Presently, Medicare beneficiaries and referral sources are allowed to choose a medical equipment supplier of their choice. The new program called "competitive bidding" will reduce and limit the number of medical equipment companies that can provide equipment to traditional Medicare beneficiaries. This program does not affect any patients who are on a Medicare Advantage Plan or traditional insurance. CMS was mandated by Congress to create this program to help control Medicare costs and lower out of pocket expenses for seniors.

In the Pittsburgh area approximately 85-90% of medical equipment companies will be excluded from providing equipment to traditional Medicare beneficiaries. This program is limited to all or part of the fourteen counties surrounding the Pittsburgh area and is based on the zip code of the patient. The area includes all or part of the following counties- Washington, Greene, Allegheny, Beaver, Lawrence, Venango, Butler, Clarion, Armstrong, Jefferson, Indiana, Westmoreland, Somerset, and Fayette. There is an estimated 463,000 Medicare beneficiaries living within the Pittsburgh competitive bidding area.

Any traditional Medicare beneficiary living in the fourteen counties (according to their zip code) will be required to use a medical equipment company from the approved list of contracted medical equipment suppliers for the following product categories:

    --  Oxygen Equipment and Supplies
    --  Standard Power Wheelchairs, Scooters, and Related Accessories
    --  Complex Rehabilitative Power Wheelchairs and Related Accessories -
        (Certain products)
    --  Mail Order Replacement Diabetic Supplies - Mail Order Only
    --  Enteral Nutrients, Equipment and Supplies
    --  CPAP, RADS, and Related Supplies and Accessories
    --  Hospital Beds and Related Accessories
    --  Walkers and Related Accessories

Medicare beneficiaries currently receiving medical equipment from a local company may be able in certain situations to continue to receive the equipment from their present company. If the beneficiary has any questions they should contact their medical equipment company. A full list of approved contracted providers and the list of zip codes within each county affected by this change can be found at http://www.medicaresuppliersnetwork.com.

Facebook Worth $50 Billion?

Facebook has raised 500 million euros from US investment bank Goldman Sachs and a Russian investor that values the popular social networking site at 50 billion dollars, the New York Times reported on Monday.

The investment puts the value of Facebook at higher than fellow Internet companies eBay and Yahoo!, as well as media company Time Warner, the newspaper said citing sources familiar with the deal.

The funds will give Facebook added resources to develop new resources, make acquisitions and lure away top employees as it increasingly competes more directly with Internet search giant Google.

10 Million Galaxy S Phones Sold

Samsung has released figures that peg the Galaxy S line as selling 10 million phones since the June launch. This is pretty impressive considering just how many Android phones there are on the market.

Samsung Electronics Co., the world’s second-largest maker of wireless handsets, said it met a sales target for its most popular smartphone as the company seeks to narrow the gap with Apple Inc.’s iPhone.

Samsung sold 10 million units of the Galaxy S model in 2010 after introducing the device in June, the company said in an e-mailed statement today. The Suwon, South Korea-based phonemaker aims to double sales of smartphones this year as more customers use the device to make video calls, read electronic books and use social networking sites.
