The project was designed with three purposes in mind:

       foursquare badge;

K-micro Initiates Development of IEEE 1901 Compliant PLC LSI

Will enable high performance with low power consumption

SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ --K-micro (Kawasaki Microelectronics America, Inc.), a leader in advanced ASICs, announced that it is developing a PLC (power line communication) LSI that is compliant with the recently approved IEEE1901 standard. 

K-micro, a member of the HD-PLC Alliance, has licensed the HD-PLC technology used as the basis for the chip from Panasonic Co., Ltd. and Panasonic System Networks Co., Ltd. The K-micro HD-PLC LSI, will feature:

                (1) PHY rate: 240Mbps (15% higher than the current LSI)
         (2) Wavelet OFDM methodology for low power (550mW in full operation)
              (3) IEEE1901 compliance (with ISP support for coexistence)
             (4) Backward compatibility with existing HD-PLC LSI products

The PLC technology jointly proposed by Panasonic Co., Ltd. and Panasonic System Networks Co., Ltd. was approved by the IEEE Standard Association( )as a base technology in the IEEE1901 standard. The PLC technology is Wavelet OFDM, which is used in products that adopt Panasonic's HD-PLC high-speed power line communication technology. This technology features the environmentally friendly capability to realize lower power consumption and lower costs through highly efficient data transmission.

"K-micro is developing products for comprehensive offerings of power line communications devices for various applications," said Koichi Akeyama, president of K-micro. "These new chips will enable low power consumption and high performance for multimedia home networking, smart grid systems and solar panels. The HD-PLC LSI chip will expand our current HD-PLC product line."

At the present time, K-micro is providing an Analog Front End (AFE) IC "KHN11121" for HD-PLC applications. "When the PLC LSI is combined with the KHN11121, the chip set will provide high performance and low power solutions," added Akeyama. "The high performance is needed to support multimedia home networking, video distribution, IPTV set-top boxes and home gateways. Samples of the chipset will be available in Q2 2011, and volume production will begin Q3 2011."

In addition, K-micro has plans to release an HD-PLC LSI targeted for smart grid applications in 2012. This new chip will operate at significantly lower power and at data rates consistent with smart grid requirements. The lower speed devices are targeted at the smart grid system applications such as energy management, solar panels systems, etc. K-micro is developing solutions to enable power line communications to be used for a wide range of applications.

Wavelet OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) is a proprietary technique developed by Panasonic. Wavelet OFDM uses OFDM to achieve efficient high-speed data transmission by applying wavelet conversions orthogonally to each subcarrier. AMD releases Catalyst 10.10c Hotfix

AMD has just released the 10.10c hotfix to their drivers! Normally AMD releases these hot fixes due to missing something in the main drivers. But it would seem that AMD has released this hotfix with the new Open GL 4.1 beta as well..........Hmm, post in the forums if you give this a try, and let everyone know if you get performance boosts or not.

CHICAGO, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Only six short months after its launch, domu.com has become the most talked about internet-based apartment listing service in the City of Chicago. Propelled by an aggressive and highly visible marketing campaign that has driven hordes of would-be renters to its easily searchable, map friendly website, domu offers a robust alternative to the traditionally overwhelming and complicated process of finding a new apartment.

Its immediate success owes in large part to the unveiling of a new and improved business model that greatly simplifies the apartment renting process for landlords and tenants alike. Landlords pay a nominal fee to list either individual units or entire buildings, and the service is entirely free to tenants. At the height of the rental season, domu typically includes well over 4,000 listings, and each listing appears on an easily navigable map of the city.

Since its April 2010 launch, upwards of 200,000 users have perused more than two million pages of content, and domu averages 1,600 unique visits every day. More than half the users come directly to the website, having seen one of the company's ubiquitous and distinctive advertisements, which have abundantly populated the city's buses, el platforms, bridges, billboards, movie trailers, and street fairs.

While tenants enjoy the benefits of easy searching and convenient mapping, landlords have an array of useful analytical tools at their disposal, allowing them to monitor the popularity of their listings. These tools allow them to track the number of times that users view, print, or share their listings, or even save those listings as "favorites."

Although a few national websites make listing information available to prospective renters, domu Vice-President Andrena Rodgers notes that "our own survey of apartment renters revealed that Chicagoans prefer websites that are exclusively locally focused."

domu also answers the hopes of landlords and tenants who are seeking a viable alternative to post-for-free websites which are notoriously replete with redundant and stale listings or, worse yet, deceptive listings posted by aggressive brokers prospecting for clients. "Websites that allow free posting ultimately destroy their own utility," says Mr. Schatz, "because competing brokers with non-exclusive listings often advertise the same exact apartments several times a day, resulting in mass redundancy and confusion for renters." These problems, he notes, can be avoided by using domu.

Mr. Schatz also serves as CEO of Schatz Development, a diversified real estate development company with roots in the Streeterville neighborhood of Chicago extending back more than 60 years. Following the successful completion of its most recent project, a 212-unit, luxury high-rise condominium building at 600 North Fairbanks, Mr. Schatz set his sights on the apartment sector and resolved to improve the inefficient and outdated apartment-finding model. The enabling technologies behind pay-TV and the Internet have been moving targets, but finally an increasing range of Internet-capable consumer devices is enabling consumers to access these content and communications services anytime, anywhere, and over increasingly fast fixed-line and wireless access networks. Content comes not only from the media companies, but increasingly from independent sources, as well as from other consumers via social networks.

"While content owners can bypass pay-TV operators by going direct to consumers over the Internet, the operators' role as aggregator, along with their potential to present a single common user interface to the consumer over any device, presents a counterargument of convenience," says Steven Hawley, Analyst at Large for Pyramid, and author of the report.   "Some pay-TV operators have more power than others because their corporate parents also may have holdings that produce content and provide enabling technologies, while others say that the world turns on advertising, which pays the freight for commercial television."

IPTV, as a set of technologies, represents both a threat and an opportunity for all facilities-based pay-TV operators.  "The services that we currently call pay-TV and Internet TV will grow to resemble one another more, while viable new business models are emerging for operators that embrace IP," Mr. Hawley says.  "But despite growing similarity, some differences between pay-TV and Internet TV will remain."

"The most successful pay-TV service providers and network operators will be those that deliver the broadest range of paid, sponsored, free, and user-generated content to consumers over as many network and device platforms as possible," Hawley adds.
