Arsenal Capital Partners' Portfolio Company Novolyte Technologies Creates Joint Venture With Foosung Co., Ltd.
Joint Venture Creates Global Integrated Supplier of Lithium Battery Electrolytes
CLEVELAND, Sept. 1 -- Novolyte Technologies, a world leading manufacturer and supplier of specialty electrolyte materials for lithium ion battery and energy storage applications, high performance solvents and other specialty chemicals, today announced that is has signed a definitive agreement with Foosung Co., Ltd., a leading global producer of specialty lithium salts for lithium batteries, to form a new joint venture platform that will create an integrated global producer of lithium battery electrolytes, a key component in the rapidly growing market for lithium batteries used in hybrid electric vehicles and consumer electronics.
The U.S.-based new joint venture entity will retain the Novolyte Technologies name and will be managed by Novolyte's current management team from its existing Cleveland headquarters. Concurrent with the formation of this joint venture, Novolyte will rename its solvents, phosphines, and custom manufacturing businesses Novolyte Performance Materials, LLC, which will be operated separately by Novolyte's current management team.
The formation of this joint venture is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2010 once Novolyte completes the separation of its Performance Materials business and Foosung completes the requisite governmental approvals in Korea.
Foosung Co., Ltd. is the sole producer in Korea and one of four global producers of high purity Lithium Hexafluorophosphate (LiPF6), a specialty salt used for electrolyte manufacture. In addition to supplying technology to Novolyte, Foosung will invest approximately $30 million in the joint venture and contribute a future lithium salt plant. Novolyte is contributing its energy storage business to the joint venture.
John Televantos, a Partner at Arsenal Capital, said, "This is an important strategic step for Novolyte and we are delighted to be partnering with Foosung Co. and its leaders. With this venture we feel that Novolyte is now positioned to become the leading global supplier of lithium battery electrolytes, a key performance component in the fast growing market of lithium ion batteries for consumer, automotive and industrial markets."
"Novolyte is the only electrolyte business with a global manufacturing base having operations and technology centers in both North America and Asia and we will now be the first global electrolyte producer that is backward integrated," said Edward Frindt, Novolyte's CEO. "We are excited to be creating this Joint Venture with Foosung which strategically supports our goal of building the leading technology based electrolyte supplier with the most efficient supply chain in order to better serve our customers worldwide."
Novolyte is the leading producer of primary (non-rechargeable) and secondary (rechargeable) Lithium electrolyte materials in North America, Europe and Greater China and a leading provider of electrolyte and ultracapacitor solutions worldwide. Novolyte serves its global customer base through its manufacturing facilities in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Suzhou, China under the Purolyte® brand. Novolyte supports its high-purity formulation capabilities and proprietary technology to offer cost-effective and high-performance electrolyte solutions, from its U.S. and China-based technical centers. The business serves a broad range of end-use products requiring highly functional electrolytes such as consumer electronics, telecommunications, military, medical, aerospace, ultracapacitors, grid storage and electric vehicles.
Novolyte received in 2009 a $20.6 million award in stimulus funds for expansion from the Department of Energy under the Recovery Act - Electric Drive Vehicle Battery and Component Manufacturing Initiative, as well as $1.12 million in Ohio Third Frontier funding in collaboration with the Great Lakes Energy Institute at Case Western Reserve University to develop and commercialize advanced electrolyte materials for next-generation Lithium-ion batteries. Both of these awards will be contributed to the joint venture.
The Lithium ion secondary battery industry can be classified broadly into two major segments, a small sized battery segment for mobile IT including PCs and mobiles and a large & medium sized battery segment for electric vehicles, stationary energy storage system, and intelligent robots. According to a relevant market review, the small sized battery market is estimated to reach $13 billion by 2014 and the large & medium sized battery market for eco-friendly vehicles is presumed to require a battery demand equivalent to about 5 million vehicles by 2015 with an annual growth rate of 20-30%. The lithium-ion battery technology will also become the fastest-growing segment for utility-scale stationary energy storage and it will grow to become a $1.1 billion business worldwide by 2018.
Arsenal Capital Partners originally invested in Novolyte Technologies in 2008. In addition to Novolyte, Arsenal Capital's current Specialty Chemicals and Materials portfolio includes Velsicol Chemical, a leading global manufacturer of high performance chemicals used in agricultural and industrial applications. Earlier this year in a transaction which returned in excess of 12x invested capital to investors, Arsenal sold Genovique Specialties Corporation, a leading global provider of benzoate plasticizers, to Eastman Chemical Company. "We are pleased with the continued progress within Arsenal Capital's Specialty Chemicals and Materials practice. Together with management teams we are identifying creative strategies to strengthen our portfolio investments. Novolyte's development of this joint venture with Foosung greatly enhances their global competitive position," said Timothy Zappala, a Partner at Arsenal Capital.

PlusServer AG Establishes Europe's Most Eco-friendly Data Center - 66 % Energy Saving in Spite of Full Tier 3 Classification
HUERTH, Germany, September 1, 2010-- After about three years of planning and construction, and an investment
of over 17 million euros, PlusServer's data center "datadock" has now started
operations. With the best energy efficiency and particularly low emission
values, it currently holds the top position among Europe's "green" data
centers. The German Internet business association "eco" even attested
datadock's quality twice: it won the eco Award 2010 as the best data center
and received the highest possible rating of five stars at Datacenter Star
Audit (DCSA).
The data center datadock was built in the Strasbourg port area by
converting a former warehouse. Strasbourg stands out due to its central
European position (approximately 300 meters from the German/French border),
and the main route for European fiber glass cables runs through this region.
Therefore, a perfect connection to Germany, France, throughout Europe, and to
the entire world is guaranteed.
Furthermore, it was only possible at this location to realize the
innovative and eco-friendly artesian-well cooling principle, which is based
on the area's broad groundwater supplies. This power saving cooling method is
an important factor in the low power consumption of datadock. In addition,
the fact that only state-of-the-art and eco-friendly devices and appliances
are used at datadock has a positive influence on the energy balance. Hence,
datadock needs 66 percent less energy than the average data center. This
equals savings of 26 million kWh per year at full load, or about 24 million
kilograms less CO2 emission, respectively. In order to remove this quantity
of the environmentally unfriendly molecule from the atmosphere would take the
full capacity of over 119,000 trees for one year.
Besides power efficiency and environmental protection, further aspects
were taken into consideration when planning datadock: "We made every effort
to realize a comprehensive security and redundancy concept, which ensures the
highest possible availability of all data", assures PlusServer CTO Jochen
Berger.
Independent third party certifications show that this effort was not in
vain. datadock got five stars in the acknowledged Datacenter Star Audit as
one of only seven data centers in Europe. "Based on deep expert knowledge,
eco has developed an evaluation schedule that completely comprehends all
demands on modern data centers", explains Andreas Niehaus, Head of IT
Operations at PlusServer. "Hence, the certificate is a very important quality
distinction for data centers", he emphasizes.
On the website http://www.datadock.eu, everybody can take a deeper look
at datadock. Next to an interactive virtual tour, many exciting facts about
Europe's greenest data center await visitors.

Dot Hill Improves Data Reliability and Increases Storage Efficiency With Latest Round of Patents
Continuing Its Lead in Technology Advancements, the Four New Innovations Bring the Company's Portfolio Total to 71 Patents
LONGMONT, Colo., Sept. 1 -- Dot Hill Systems Corp. (NASDAQ: HILL), a provider of world-class storage solutions and software for OEMs, open storage partners and system integrators, today announced the addition of four new patents to the company's technology portfolio, upping the company's intellectual property total to 71 patents granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
"These four patents serve as validation of Dot Hill's technical expertise and our ability to produce highly relevant technology solutions to real-world business problems," said Jim Kuenzel, senior vice president of engineering at Dot Hill Systems. "Our customers should not have to worry about their data. This is why our engineering team is on a perpetual quest to improve data reliability and solve the operational efficiency challenges storage administrators face on a daily basis."
Dot Hill's newest innovations address the need for high data reliability and efficiencies in storage operations. The first of the four patents describes inventions to improve how data in a RAID system is rebuilt when a corruption error occurs. While RAID systems from other vendors replace bad blocks using data from the same, failing drive, U.S. patent 7,774,643, "Method and apparatus for preventing permanent data loss due to single failure of a fault-tolerant array," describes a more reliable approach. This technology ensures that other sources, never the corrupted drive, are used to rebuild the blocks. This method is not only more reliable, but also improves performance because only the bad block is reconstructed, as opposed to the entire stripe containing the bad block, as in most other RAID methods.
The second patent describes innovations to increase the reliability of Dot Hill's storage systems, and is implemented in the 2000 Series and 3000 Series systems. U.S. patent 7,788,541, "Apparatus and method for identifying disk drives with unreported data corruption," describes technology that allows the RAID controller to identify certain kinds of disk drive problems that are not reported as failures by disk drives. This innovation addresses a potential risk of traditional RAID storage. In some instances, unreliable data goes undetected and is read from storage devices, resulting in application failures, wrong data or incorrect status presented to servers and clients. This innovation provides users with more granular detection means, resulting in higher data reliability.
The inventions in the third and fourth patents both offer storage administration efficiencies and improved system responsiveness. Patent 7,783,603, "Backing store reinitialization method and apparatus," describes an improvement to Dot Hill's AssuredCopy(TM) volume copy software and is implemented on Dot Hill 2000 and 3000 Series storage arrays. It allows system administrators to reinitialize a storage volume in one step after a snapshot deletion command is issued to the controller when all snapshots are already either being deleted or marked for deletion. While this was previously a serial operation where one snapshot was deleted at a time, the patented new method saves time and quickly readies the system for new snapshots.
The company's fourth patent describes a method that makes it possible to write to the Master Volume (storage file system) even when the Master Volume is being copied on Dot Hill 2000 Series and 3000 Series arrays. Previous to this innovation, a system administrator might copy the Master Volume for security or reliability reasons and find that the file system would be unavailable. Updates to the Master Volume would be put on hold until the copy was completed, to ensure the integrity of the copy. This would essentially make the storage unavailable until the operation was complete. The innovation described in U.S. patent 7,783,850, "Method and apparatus for Master Volume access during volume copy," ensures the storage is fully available, and the Master Volume can be updated simultaneously during the copy process.

ContextWeb and Mpire Partner to Deliver Real Time Classification Technology to Mpire's AdXpose Ad Verification Solution
-- Mpire to Integrate ContextWeb's RTC Technology to Augment its AdXpose Campaign Verification and Brand Protection Service -- ContextWeb to Offer AdXpose as Third Party Verification Service to its ADSDAQ Ad Exchange Customers
SEATTLE, Sept. 1 -- Mpire, the market-leading verification and optimization technology company, and ContextWeb, the largest independent ad exchange, today announced a cross-licensing agreement where each partner will integrate the other's technology to enhance their respective offerings.
Mpire has integrated ContextWeb's Real-Time Classifier (RTC) technology into its AdXpose(TM) solution, which will enhance AdXpose's ability to dynamically analyze and classify the content of a designated Web page in real-time. The technology will also help AdXpose assign the relevant IAB content categories to those pages, augmenting its campaign verification and brand protection offerings and reporting capabilities.
With ContextWeb's RTC technology, AdXpose's enhanced verification and optimization offering will enable advertisers, networks, and exchanges to be alerted of placement violations that are not compliant with or do not match the relevant IAB Network and Exchange Quality Assurance Guidelines content category. By using the joint offering, AdXpose customers will be better able to value and optimize their media spend.
"ContextWeb's technology increases our ability to understand Web site content on each individual page before our clients' ads appear on them, which is extremely important for advertisers who are concerned about brand safety, and for networks who want added assurance that their publishers are operating within their terms and conditions," said Kirby Winfield, president and chief revenue officer at Mpire. "Moreover, we are now able to ensure, in real-time, that a client's ads will be served to the specific IAB content category that they contracted to purchase, which uniquely positions AdXpose to provide the best verification and brand safety offerings for networks and exchanges."
For ContextWeb, integrating Mpire's patent pending and award-winning AdXpose solution into its ad exchange enables the company to proactively offer real-time, third party campaign verification services to its customers. With AdXpose verifying and protecting advertiser campaigns, ContextWeb can mitigate the need for post-campaign reviews and reconciliation, protect publishers and ad networks from make-goods and charge-backs and provide an even safer experience for brands looking to advertise on ContextWeb's exchange.
"Advertisers are increasingly requesting campaign verification by third parties to minimize fraud and wasted ad spend, and to ensure that ad exchanges and networks are fulfilling their contractual obligations," said Jay Sears, general manager of ContextWeb's ad exchange. "By offering AdXpose's services as an option to our customers and prospects, we're sending them a clear message that we are a trusted partner, that we are looking out for their best interests, and that our customer's success is our top priority."

Best-Selling Authors Neal Stephenson and Greg Bear, With Subutai Corporation, Announce The Mongoliad on World's First Social Book Platform
New Book Platform Delivers Narrative, Enhanced Supplementary Content, and Complete Social Network, Enabling Readers to influence the Development of Story
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 1 -- Bestselling authors Neal Stephenson and Greg Bear, along with Subutai Corporation, announced today the launch of The Mongoliad, the first digital novel on a social book platform. A speculative fiction novel set against the Mongol invasion of Europe in the 13th century, The Mongoliad follows a small band of warriors and mystics in a ripping tale of action and adventure set at a time when the Mongol horde's conquest of Europe seemed inevitable. Key to the development of this tale is the unique collaboration between the authors and the audience through PULP, Subutai's new platform, which provides a participatory experience only possible in today's connected digital world. "PULP is what Gutenberg would have come up with if he hadn't jumped the gun and released 600 years early," said Stephenson. "Kindles and iPads were little better than expensive drink trays until we came up with this."
The Mongoliad's heroes fight, plot, spy, and maneuver the politics of royal courts, the church, merchant empires, and secret societies in an attempt to defeat their would-be conquerors, and to preserve the knowledge that is in their charge. Each week a new chapter is delivered via custom applications for handhelds and the web, starting with iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch.
Greg Bear said, "This is one of the most exciting and interesting projects I've worked on in a long while. Collaborating with Neal and our crack team on a magnificent story and a new business model for publishing and media is a real privilege."
The Mongoliad is the first story to be released on the PULP platform. PULP enables authors to deliver a richer experience than ebooks or traditional paper, creating a complete world around a novel and its characters. The platform enables the dynamic inclusion of meta-narrative and para-narrative elements such as character sketches, articles, short stories, music, video, and social features for discussions among the book's community. Serial delivery enables both authors and community time to shape the next stage of an exciting tale where the experience can really take off in any creative direction.
"The form of the traditional novel is a consequence of the technology of the printing press," said Jeremy Bornstein, co-founder and President of Subutai. "We wanted to explore what the novel could be now that it's practical to use a platform more modern than paper."
Pricing
Readers can enjoy the journey of The Mongoliad with a 6-month subscription priced at $5.99 USD or annually at $9.99 USD. Each week readers will receive new chapters, along with ongoing access to the community and additional content.

Atmel Rolls Out Industry's Smallest Car Radio Antenna IC With Best Noise Performance
New device addresses radio frequency ranges up to 790 MHz including DMB, DVB-T and ISDB-T in Korea, Europe and US/Japan, respectively
HEILBRONN, Germany, Sept. 1 -- Atmel® Corporation (NASDAQ:ATML), a leader in microcontroller and touch solutions, today announced the availability of a new active antenna integrated circuit (IC) designed for FM car antennas, car radios and navigation applications. Addressing the broad operating frequency range of up to 790MHz, these antennas also cover regional broadcast systems including DMB in Korea, DVB-T in Europe and the U.S. and ISDB-T in Japan. The new Atmel ATR4253 IC provides maximum integration to include an automatic gain control, supply voltage regulator with overvoltage protection and an antenna sensor in a 3 x 3mm footprint. The ATR4253 is the industry's smallest active antenna IC that enables designers to develop smaller, high-performance antenna solutions located in the car mirror, bumper, rear or side windows. The antenna detection functionality is also ideal for modern window or glass antennas, and the robust IC addresses other antenna types including pole or shark fin antennas.
With the industry's best noise performance and excellent linearity behavior, the ATR4253 addresses the two most crucial issues for designing antenna applications. Due to the impressive noise performance, the ATR4253 can also be designed as a pre-amplifier for car radios or navigation applications which require FM-RDS information. Similar to its predecessors Atmel ATR4251 and Atmel ATR4252, the new device enables crystal-clear reception without distortion even under extreme difficult and rapidly fluctuating field strength conditions typically found in moving antenna systems.
The device is equipped with a broad range of features including voltage regulation (important function when an unstabilized phantom feed is used), ESD protection, excellent system performance, and a very robust ambient temperature capability of up to 115 degrees C. In addition, the AGC avoids problems with large signals, while maintaining a high sensitivity level.
"Most modern car radios use phase diversity technology for improved reception quality, requiring two or more antennas. While the predecessor device Atmel ATR4252 handles both AM and FM frequencies, the Atmel ATR4253 is a perfect fit to support the application of a second FM antenna," explained Carsten Friedrich, Marketing Manager of Car Radio ICs at Atmel Corporation.
Availability and Pricing
Samples of the car radio antenna IC ATR4253 are now available in small-outline QFN16 packages. Pricing starts at U.S. $0.69 for quantities of 100K. To simplify and accelerate a product design, a demo board plus an application note are available under NDA.

OV2643 and OV2659 Add 720p HD Video and Excellent Low-Light Sensitivity to Further Extend Industry's Broadest 2-Megapixel Sensor Portfolio
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 1 -- OmniVision Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:OVTI), a leading developer of advanced digital imaging solutions, today introduced two new system-on-a-chip (SOC) CMOS image sensors, the OV2643 and OV2659. Both sensors are designed to address the increased demand for 2-megapixel resolution cameras in the mid- to low-end feature phone segment, bringing high-definition (HD) video and excellent low-light sensitivity to this high-volume market. With the addition of the OV2643 and OV2659, OmniVision now offers the industry's broadest portfolio of 2megapixel camera solutions, serving a wide variety of applications including notebooks, webcams and gaming and entertainment devices.
The two new SOC sensors with advanced image signal processing offer quality and functionality comparable to many high-performance digital still cameras, including 720p native HD video at 30 frames per second, excellent sensitivity and high quality image capture. Additionally, they are designed to meet the cost, size and performance requirements of the highly segmented camera phone market.
"We are seeing a clear trend of the mid- to low-end feature phone market migrating to 2-megapixel resolution, with significantly increasing demand from emerging markets such as China and India," said Per Rosdahl, director of product marketing at OmniVision. "OmniVision has invested in a very broad 2-megapixel portfolio to address the full range of size and performance requirements this market segment demands. The OV2643 and OV2659 are the first SOC sensors from OmniVision to offer HD capability at this resolution, providing a critical differentiator over other sensors currently on the market."
Designed for cost-sensitive applications, the OV2659 is built on OmniVision's 1.75-micron OmniPixel3-HS(TM) architecture, which achieves low-light sensitivity of 950 mV/lux-sec. At the beginning of 2010 BizArk obtained tens of millions of dollars investment from IDG Ventures.
In February 2010, the e-commerce service was officially named "BizArk", meaning the "Noah's Ark" carrying Chinese companies to the world. The release of BizArk is dedicated to helping Chinese trade companies gain a firm foothold in the global market based on brand establishment, changing the "low price and low quality" image of "made-in-China."
BizArk aims to provide tailored marketing solutions for Chinese companies with services -- overseas market analysis, website construction and multi-channel marketing -- as the core. Its main services include target customer research, website construction, search engine optimization, paid search engine marketing, social networking services, opt-in email marketing, affiliate marketing, website security support, online payment support, multilingual customer services, international legal consulting, overseas logistics and warehousing, international press releases and more.

The competition is not so stiff. There is still the possibility of fast success for SMEs." He also points out that B2C foreign trade will become the new hot point in the Chinese e-commerce field over the next 3 to 5 years.
Another helmsman of BizArk, CEO Jason Gu, former General Manager of Google in the eastern China region and Google China Export Services division, has ten years of management experience in sales and marketing in multinational companies. Private WiFi has Officially Launched its Early Adopters Program
In an attempt to help secure the world from hackers while using a public hotspot, Private WiFi has officially launched its WiFi Encryption Software. Until Sept., users can qualify for a month free of the hacker proof service.
SHERMAN, Conn., Sept. 1 -- Private WiFi is inviting everyone to be among the first users of its WiFi Encryption software. They have developed a software that can secure your personal information by encrypting the data which flows into and out of your laptop, making you invisible to hackers. It installs in just minutes, runs invisibly in the background, and protects you whenever and wherever you are connected to a WiFi hotspot.
Private WiFi uses the same complex technology and verified encryption used by important corporations and government agencies. All information going into and out of your PC becomes encrypted. Their incredibly fast servers in numerous locations around the world decrypt your communications and sends them to the right destination. To top that off, Private WiFi users also benefit from anonymous IP addresses and location masking to add to their privacy.
Private WiFi is a completely new product and comes with a special offer for early adopters. The company wants to show that they value users' opinions and comments as they help developers design better products and services to suit consumers' needs. This is why they want to reward feedback related to this new product.
Customers are encouraged to tell them what they liked and did not like about Private WiFi and what should be done to improve it. All comments, either positive or negative, receive a certificate for one month usage free of charge, worth $9.95. Or, if they really do not like it and want to give it up, they can give useful feedback to help improve it, and be rewarded with $5 on their PayPal account. (Limited, of course, to one per account). The early adopters program is scheduled to run until September 30th 2010.
About Wireless Security Risks
WiFi usage has been thriving in the recent period due to its convenience and ease of use. A person can log in to the Internet from the airport, the library, a coffee house or any other public place offering a hotspot. However, a small number of people are aware of the security risks typically associated with using wireless access.
Wireless networks use radio waves instead of cable to link computers to one another. When someone connects to a wireless network, they open up their PC, as well as the personal information that is stored on it, to a new kind of hacker called a sniffer. Sniffing has become more widespread recently due to the wide range of easy-to-use hacking tools. Sniffers don't need physical access to your PC, they just have to be in the same network as you. Once in, they have access to all types of personal data, such as passwords, social security numbers, credit card numbers, drivers licenses and any other data that other network users have on their computer.
Private WiFi protect your identity and sensitive information by becoming invisible on any public WiFi network. For further information, please contact us at 1-888-525-3078 or at http://www.privatewifi.com.
Alcatel-Lucent Acquires OpenPlug, a Cross-Platform Mobile Software Development Tool Provider
Acquisition Expands Company's Developer Tools to Make Applications Available on Diverse Operating Systems and in More Service Provider Stores
PARIS, September 1, 2010-- Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced
that it has acquired OpenPlug, a mobile software and applications development
tools vendor. Through this acquisition, Alcatel-Lucent deepens its role in
the applications space by delivering, as part of its integrated suite of
developer tools, a platform where application developers can write an
application once, which will then be translated to run on any of the five
major mobile operating systems. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Alcatel-Lucent can now extend OpenPlug's functionality to
service providers, enterprises and developers so they can create and deploy
applications -- in virtually record time and without sacrificing the unique
customer experience -- across multiple mobile devices and within service
provider app stores. As a result, applications that had previously only been
available on more sophisticated devices such as smartphones, can now be
enjoyed by consumers on any mobile device, which opens up opportunities in
emerging markets, where low cost mobile phone circulation is highest.
This is the second acquisition Alcatel-Lucent has made over
the past three months to expand and enhance the application ecosystem. In
June, the company acquired ProgrammableWeb, the technology industry's go-to
source of API-related content.
"While demand for mobile apps is peaking, so is the
fragmentation of mobile development platforms and tools," said Michael Cote,
analyst for Redmonk. "This makes it very expensive to target all devices and
can lead to putting all your eggs in one, often tightly controlled basket,
like Apple's, or doing a least-common denominator, mobile web app that can't
benefit from full native device access. A tool that can target all platforms
is hugely needed in this space, and OpenPlug should work well with the total
mobile app development portfolio Alcatel-Lucent is putting together."
Thanks to OpenPlug, service providers, enterprises and
developers do not have to be selective about which of the many mobile
platforms they will write applications for, thus limiting their potential for
service adoption and revenue potential. OpenPlug's mobile software turns
every device into a smart device. It allows developers to write applications
once and convert application code into native software that runs on any
leading mobile device operating system, including iPhone(R), Android(R),
Symbian(R), Windows Mobile(R), and Linux(R).
"Being able to provide more applications across multiple
devices helps service providers significantly broaden their app store content
to create more value for consumers," said Laura Merling, vice president of
Alcatel-Lucent's global developer strategy. "As service providers typically
offer multiple mobile devices to their subscriber base, the OpenPlug software
can help them get to market five times faster by allowing them to easily port
an application to all of their devices. And this isn't purely a mobile play
-- the software can be extended to support application development for IPTV
set top boxes, game consoles, even the ng Connect LTE Connected Car."
"Deploying valuable web and mobile services requires
assembling many different pieces from many horizons," said Eric Baissus, CEO
of OpenPlug. "By combining OpenPlug's ELIPS Suite and ELIPS Studio
technologies with Alcatel-Lucent's platforms and API services, we enable
developers and service providers to gather all these pieces in a very
efficient and consistent way. This will dramatically facilitate the
deployment and the monetization of the new generation of applications that
the market is expecting."
The OpenPlug toolset will be incorporated into
Alcatel-Lucent's Developer Platform ( http://www2.alcatel-lucent.com/application_enablement/dpp.php) and Open API
Service (http://openapiservice.com/), thus broadening the functionality
available to service providers, enterprises and developers for the exposure
of network assets and the rapid introduction of new services across mobile
and Web domains.
The move advances Alcatel-Lucent's Application Enablement
(http://www2.alcatel-lucent.com/application_enablement/) strategy, which is
focused on combining the trusted and secure network capabilities of service
providers with the speed and innovation of the Web to provide a richer
end-user experience.

Microsoft and Temenos Prove Scale of Support for the Largest Retail Banking Operations
Performance testing reveals revolutionizing technology options for large banks and dramatically reduces core banking transaction processing costs.
REDMOND, Wash. and GENEVA, Sept. 1 -- Microsoft Corp. and Temenos Group AG, the global provider of banking software, today announced the successful completion of a high-performance benchmark that measured the high-end scalability of TEMENOS T24 (T24) on Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter.
The testing environment, created to reflect real-world retail banking activity volumes, was made up of 25 million accounts and 15 million customers across 2,000 branches. At peak performance the system processed more than 3,400 transactions per second in online testing and averaged over 5,200 interest accrual and capitalisations per second during close of business processing. The testing demonstrated near linear scalability (95 percent) in building up toward the final the hardware configuration.
This benchmark was performed as part of the strategic alliance between Temenos and Microsoft announced last year, the aim of which is to deliver an optimized T24 core banking solution on Microsoft technology, and thus greatly increase operational efficiency at large-scale banks. The performance figures shown here together with the massive scalability of SQL Server 2008 R2 make the combination of T24 and Microsoft technologies an increasingly compelling proposition for even the largest banks across the globe.
Karen Cone, general manager of Worldwide Financial Services at Microsoft, adds, "Our partnership with Temenos is proving very successful on several fronts. This confirmation of T24's performance capability on the Microsoft platform to address the requirements of the world's largest banks is clearly a very exciting result, which will undoubtedly be of interest to many of our existing financial services customers. Many of these banks already benefit from Microsoft technologies for their mission-critical distribution channels and in support of customer-facing staff. With T24 performing at this level, we are able to deliver those same total cost-of-ownership benefits, flexibility and agility to an area that has historically been hampered by legacy systems, where replacement has been perceived as challenging. We are encouraged to see that a number of banks have already signed up for this winning combination."
Temenos CEO Andreas Andreades concludes, "We have always been committed to providing our customers with the widest possible choice of hardware and software platforms on which they can run T24. With this benchmark we bring to market a revolutionary solution which we are confident can serve the needs of large banks while delivering a superior cost strategy. This close collaboration with Microsoft, focused on optimizing T24 for the Windows and SQLServer platform, confirms our ongoing effort toward helping our customers to remain the most profitable in the industry."
The project was undertaken by a joint Temenos and Microsoft team, in the Microsoft performance testing facilities in Redmond, Wash., during July 2010. This is part of an ongoing program of T24 performance testing based on real-case situations across a variety of hardware and software platforms. Intel's Xeon 7500 Processor Series was used to support the benchmark by providing even more capable platform features, allowing scalable performance, advanced reliability and server consolidation.
Pauline Nist, general manager, Mission Critical Segment Organization, Intel Data Center Group comments: "The team worked together on this performance benchmark where our excellent scalability and results highlight how Microsoft SQL Server and T24 with Intel Xeon processor 7500 series are revolutionizing the performance of mission critical applications."

Epson Signature Worthy Roll Media Now Includes Hot and Cold Press Papers in 17 to 60-Inch Widths and Exhibition Fiber Paper in 17 to 64-Inch Widths
LAS VEGAS, Sept. 1 -- Epson is expanding its Signature Worthy(TM) line of professional media for photographers and fine artists by offering a wider selection of roll-based products. Due to the growing popularity of Hot Press and Cold Press papers, Epson is now offering these products in rolls of 17-inch, 24-inch, 44-inch, and 60-inch widths. The company is also expanding its offerings of Exhibition Fiber Paper to include 17-inch, 24-inch, 44-inch, and 64-inch wide rolls.
"We have collaborated with many of the industry's leading photographers and fine artists to redefine and perfect the art of paper making, and the overwhelming success of these three papers mandates that we expand our line to include rolls," said Jeff Smith, product manager, Professional Imaging, Epson America. "Every day, a growing number of professionals switch to these breakthrough papers because of the stunning images they can produce, and in an effort to help satisfy the demands of professionals, we are delighted to be able to provide these papers in rolls."
Optimized for use with Epson Stylus® Pro printers and inks - including the Epson 900-series with Epson UltraChrome® HDR ink technology - Signature Worthy papers are designed to help creative professionals create prints that yield richer blacks, smoother tonal transitions and wider color gamuts.
Epson Hot Press and Cold Press Papers
Epson Hot Press papers give artists a unique, smooth surface for advanced print making while Cold Press papers offer a more textured surface. Epson offers both surfaces in two choices of white points: Hot Press Bright and Cold Press Bright for those who prefer a brighter white point; and Hot Press Natural and Cold Press Natural for those who prefer a warmer tone. Both Hot Press and Cold Press papers are composed of a true cotton fiber base, are acid/lignin-free and achieve near-instant dry times.

Epson's Exhibition Fiber Paper is designed to give professional and advanced photographers a paper that delivers the true look and feel of a classic F-surface, air-dried print that's revered by professionals who have extensive backgrounds from the days of dark room processing. This paper also has a cotton fiber base and is acid/lignin-free.
"Since the launch of Exhibition Fiber Paper three years ago, photographers and fine artists have increasingly asked Epson to make this paper available in larger roll sizes to achieve maximum image quality while increasing productivity," adds Jeff Smith. "Now that it's available in roll widths up to 64 inches, it will be a huge advantage for them as well as fine art repro shops."

Sanela Diana Jenkins Human Rights Project Launches Groundbreaking Online Tool to Help Prosecute War Criminals
LOS ANGELES, September 1, 2010--
- Human Rights & International Law Online Forum Endorsed by Prosecutor
of the International Criminal Court
The Sanela Diana Jenkins Human Rights Project today launched a
groundbreaking online tool that allows those involved in prosecuting war
criminals around the world to collaborate, share information and analyze
legal hurdles more effectively.
The Human Rights & International Criminal Law Online Forum, at http://www.UCLALawForum.com, provides a venue for lawyers, researchers,
government officials and interested members of the general public to discuss
- and potentially resolve - difficult questions on international justice. The
Forum was created with the support of the Office of the Prosecutor of the
International Criminal Court in The Hague.
"Bringing war criminals to justice is a truly international effort that
requires an extraordinary amount of collaboration," said Sanela Diana
Jenkins, the Sarajevo-born businesswoman and human rights activist who
established the Sanela Diana Jenkins Human Rights Project at the UCLA School
of Law in 2009. "The Forum uses technology to provide a place for the best
ideas and the best practices to be shared around the world. I believe it can
also advance the cause of justice by allowing ordinary people to participate
in the discussion alongside the experts."
Ms. Jenkins continued: "My experience - first as a refugee and then in
helping rebuild Bosnia - has convinced me that legitimate international legal
institutions are vital. When the world stands together, it counters the sense
of impunity that allows these monsters to believe they can do as they like."
The Forum was created with the cooperation and assistance of the Office
of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court. The International
Criminal Court advances international justice and human rights by embracing
new developments in human rights law and prosecuting perpetrators of mass
atrocities. The Forum is intended to provide insight and debate on highly
contested issues.
"For us, it's very important," said Luis Moreno-Ocampo, chief prosecutor
of the International Criminal Court. "It's a way for us to refine our legal
thinking. We like to understand different perceptions in order to reach our
own conclusions."
The Forum will deal with one issue at a time. The inaugural issue
addresses the question of whether the Prosecutor of the International
Criminal Court has jurisdiction to investigate suspected war crimes arising
out of the Gaza conflict in 2008 and 2009. Leading legal thinkers on this
issue have posted extensive articles on the Forum debating the issue.
"The Forum will provide an opportunity for a serious global public debate
on some of the most important human rights problems of the day," said
Professor Richard Steinberg, director of the Sanela Diana Jenkins Human
Rights Project. "This project also provides amazing opportunities for UCLA
law students, who are able to collaborate directly with world renowned human
rights practitioners and scholars."

Jackpotjoy.com is the Nation's Favourite Bingo Site!
LONDON, September 1, 2010-- If you can measure how good a Bingo site is by the number of visits it
gets, then Jackpotjoy.com is officially the UK's best Bingo site over the
past 6 months, according to Experian Hitwise who measure the market share of
visits to all the country's top Bingo sites.
Back in March Jackpotjoy.com completely re-launched their Bingo site, not
an easy thing to do in a competitive market like online Bingo. If the public
didn't like what they saw, Jackpotjoy could see even their most loyal members
disappear. For more on Jackpotjoy.com's Bingo please see http://www.jackpotjoy.com/bingo/games/bingo-games/bingo-sites.html.
But Jackpotjoy.com's seven years of experience haven't gone to waste and
from January to June 2010 they ranked number 1 against all Bingo sites in the
UK, beating the likes of Foxy, Gala and Tombola, according to leading global
online competitive intelligence service Experian Hitwise.*
"It's been a real team effort," explains head of Jackpotjoy, Adele
Lawton. "We're all delighted with the achievement."
The re-launch saw a new look site, as well as a brand new Bingo product.
For more on what's new at Jackpotjoy, please see http://www.jackpotjoy.com/whatsnew
"Change is always very challenging," Adele told us, "both for the
consumers and for the business itself. Our success here reflects the ability
we nurture around the office as well as the strength of the Jackpotjoy brand
in the market place."
The Bingo site was re-launched at the end of March 2010, and it was
quickly followed by a Hitwise Number 1 Ranking for April.
"It was interesting to get the first award almost at the same time as
launching the site. It meant that we'd gone into the launch with a market
leading position which we then had to keep hold of with a completely new
product.
"The fact that we've maintained our position for the next three months as
well - between April and June - is firm proof that the re-launch worked."
This latest news precedes a major push at Jackpotjoy.com that's been
planned for some time.
"Yes, it's true," Adele confirms, "we do have a big push coming this
autumn. I'm not going to reveal too much but, as we've said before, we'll be
going into homes across the country, turning Jackpotjoy.com into a household
name. It's very exciting..."

The Gamesys Group was founded by Noel Hayden in April 2001 with a small
team of developers. The aim was to build a profitable online entertainment
business providing Instant Win, Bingo and Casino games to a worldwide
audience using proprietary gaming software.
After eight years, the Group's leading brand, Jackpotjoy.com, has built
an audience of over 3,000,000 members and pays out in excess of GBP 90
million every month. The success of Jackpotjoy.com has established the
Gamesys Group as one of the UK's leading online gaming businesses. In 2006
they were named No. 1 in the Microsoft/Sunday Times Tech Track 100 League
Table, and they're now one of only four companies to have appeared on the
list four years in a row. This feat reflects both the company's capacity for
sustained growth and its remarkable resilience resilience during periods of
financial instability.

Comcast Launches 4G Version of High-Speed 2go Wireless Data Service in Boston Area
High-Speed 2go(TM) Now Provides Consumers With 4G or 3G Access to the Internet
BOSTON, Sept. 1 -- Comcast, one of the nation's leading providers of entertainment, information and communications products and services, today launched its 4G or fourth generation high-speed wireless data service in the Boston area as the company continues its nationwide rollout of High-Speed 2go(TM). Today's launch builds upon the success of Comcast's High-Speed 2go 3G offering, which was introduced in May 2010.
Comcast's High-Speed 2go is a mobile Internet solution that provides the fastest available wireless Internet speeds in the nation via wireless data cards. Comcast now offers a fourth-generation or 4G wireless service in addition to a nationwide 3G wireless service. Comcast is selling this wireless service bundled with one or more of its popular Internet, phone and television products, providing mobile broadband wherever and whenever customers need to be connected.
"We know that consumers in the Boston area embrace technology and Comcast is proud to bring them 4G service bundled with blazing fast Internet speeds up to 50 Mbps and beyond at home or on the go," said Steve Hackley, Senior Vice President of Comcast's Greater Boston Region. "Comcast continues to offer the most innovative products and services in the market whether it's with XFINITY TV, Voice, Internet or now wireless - all for the ultimate benefit of customers in the region."
Comcast is now selling three different data cards and service plans:
-- High-Speed 2go Metro (4G) service uses a 4G-only data card giving
customers the fastest wireless service within the 4G metro coverage
area. The 4G device operates only in a 4G network footprint.
-- High-Speed 2go Nationwide (3G) service uses a 3G-only data card giving
customers nationwide wireless service. The 3G-only device operates on
Sprint's national 3G network.
-- High-Speed 2go Nationwide Preferred (4G/3G) service delivers the
fastest metro 4G service plus coast-to-coast access on Sprint's
national 3G network. The 4G/3G device operates by switching between
available 4G and 3G networks.
The world-class services Comcast is known for in the home are beginning to be extended to where consumers work, live and play. High-speed mobile Internet is one of the first products consumers want as a natural extension of Comcast's super fast wired high-speed Internet.
Bundled Pricing
For the first time, consumers will have access to blazing fast wired and wireless Internet - sold together at launch as a "Fast Pack" for as low as $54.99 per month for one year. Both new and existing Comcast customers will be eligible for special bundled pricing, with existing Comcast High-Speed Internet customers receiving 4G wireless or 3G wireless as an add-on for as low as $40 per month. Visit http://www.comcast.com/highspeed2go for additional pricing plans and service packages.
The $54.99 per month Fast Pack Metro (4G) service includes Comcast's home Internet service with speeds up to 12 Mbps, a free WiFi router for mobility and extended coverage in the home, and 4G service that will provide 3 to 6 Mbps average download speeds when customers are on the go. The Fast Pack Nationwide (3G) service, for as low as $54.99 per month, includes Comcast's 12 Mbps home Internet service, a free WiFi router for mobility and extended coverage in the home, and nationwide 3G mobile network access. For an additional $15 per month, consumers can upgrade to the Fast Pack Nationwide Preferred (4G/3G) service that includes the Fast Pack Metro 4G service plus nationwide 3G mobile Internet access. All prices are in effect for the first 12 months.
Comcast is selling wireless data services following its investment in Clearwire in November 2008. Comcast's 4G service is being provided via the Clearwire network, and its 3G service is being provided by Sprint's nationwide 3G network. Comcast is one of the first investors in Clearwire to bring a service to market and expects that it will continue to add value to existing bundled products.
