Filamet(TM) adds 3D Print Metal to Existing, Inexpensive 3D Printing Hardware
With Filamet(TM) from The Virtual Foundry, existing 3D Printing hardware can create Pure Metal Output
MADISON, Wis., June 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Filamet(TM), the new product from The Virtual Foundry, llc in Madison, Wisconsin, lets any standard 3d printer, print pure metal right on the desktop. This Crowdfunded development will likely change the way metal is 3D Printed.
"I'd like to introduce you to the people that have found the Holy Grail of 3D Printing." -Engineer introducing Bradley Woods before a presentation given in the Hubble Auditorium at Lockheed-Martin.
The Virtual Foundry has combined traditional plastics, Powdered Metallurgy, Metal Injection Molding and 3D Printing in a completely new way. Filamet(TM) has a composition of over 88% metal, which becomes pure metal after a simple process removes the 12% binding material. This strategy creates a path from inexpensive 3D Printers, to Pure Metal output. A feat previously only capable on million-plus dollar printers. Filamet(TM) has a number of advantages over existing Metal Laser Printers. Purchase cost and operating costs being the most obvious, but also Time. Processing a Filamet(TM) print can be done in under 5 hours. Large printers have a print cycle of up to 48 hours.
"Printer manufacturers have struggled for years to bring 3D Metal Printers down into a workable price range. Filamet(TM) takes a different approach. Rather than bringing the high-end down, it extends the capabilities of current 3D Printers up to those of the high-end machines." - Bradley Woods
"We expect materials to account for a large portion of near-term product innovation in the 3D Printing market," concluded Mr. Woods, "our company offers an immediate solution to producing real and useful metal prints on the desktop 3D Printer that you already own." Since going public with Filamet(TM), The Virtual Foundry has developed relationships with a series of industries that one might not first expect. We're exploring small-scale manufacturing with Calvin Klein, low-cost consumable parts used in Radiation Therapy with the world's largest nuclear medicine facility, a prototyping technique that will 3d print uranium (Department of Energy), plus other materials used in aerospace and other industries.
Our patented technology works with any 3D Printer, and any material that will "Sinter". This makes a nearly endless list of potential materials for future variations of Filamet(TM). Over the next 6 months we will be releasing 3D Printing filament based on other metals plus Glass and Ceramic.
"From here, the curve in 3d printing metal, goes forward rapidly and indefinitely." - Bradley Woods
The Virtual Foundry is a technology company in Madison, Wisconsin specializing in developing products for 3d Printing Metal, Glass and Ceramic objects on existing desktop 3d Printers. All of our products are manufactured in America, from raw materials manufactured in America.

Casio Projectors and Calculators are Ideal Tools for Students and Educators Alike for the 2016-2017 School Year
DOVER, N.J., June 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- As the current academic year comes to a close, parents and educators alike are beginning to look ahead towards the fall and prepare for the 2016-2017 school year. Casio America, Inc. wants to make sure that students have everything they need and Casio's calculators and full portfolio of LampFree(® )classroom projectors are ideal tools to create strong engagement in learning this fall and beyond.
"Casio has a rich history of developing technologies with innovative features that educators want in the classroom and students will appreciate using while learning," said Yuji Sasajima, CEO of Casio America, Inc. "The summer season is an ideal time for parents and educators to prepare for the next school year and with Casio projectors and calculators, they can rest assured that students will have the best tools to learn key skills needed for their future."
Spotlight on Education
Casio's full portfolio of classroom projectors features LampFree technology. By combining a laser and LED light source, Casio projectors are a unique, high-brightness, mercury-free tool that uses half the amount of power per unit than its traditional lamp-based counterparts. These LampFree offerings save educators time and money because they require minimal maintenance and eliminate the cost of replacement lamps. Casio projectors have a 20,000-hour lifespan, which is the equivalent to approximately 18 years of school use. That means that schools can save nearly $2,500 when compared to traditional mercury lamp projectors. Additionally, in an industry where most projection lamps come with only a 90-day warranty, Casio backs its unique design with three to five years, depending on the projector.
Calculators Add to the Learning Fun
Casio offers a full portfolio of innovative scientific and graphic calculators that help make learning fun for students. Casio's ClassWiz fx-991EX is the industry's first scientific calculator with spreadsheet functionality, which enables students to create spreadsheets with up to five columns and 45 rows for a maximum of 170 data items. It also boasts a high-resolution screen and comes equipped with a natural textbook display, which means that mathematic equations and formulas are displayed just as they would appear in a student's textbook. Additionally, the calculator can convert graphs into QR codes, which can be displayed on a projector screen, allowing teachers and students to work together seamlessly.
Revolutionary among graphing calculators, Casio's PRIZM fx-CG10 is jam-packed with features that enable students to solve the most challenging equations and enhance their understanding of mathematics, including the world's first Picture Plot function. The Picture Plot function enables users to plot graphs over pictures of real-life scenes and offers a color LCD with a full textbook-style display. Additionally, the PRIZM includes a multitude of functions that leverage the color LCD in graphing objects like dotted lines, circles and bars, and grid lines.
Casio's portfolio of LampFree(®) projectors combines a laser, a fluorescent element and an LED light to deliver a mercury-free hybrid light source that lasts up to 20,000 hours while sustaining a high brightness and keeping maintenance costs to a minimum. Casio has a full assortment of LampFree® solutions available for home, business, education and commercial applications - Core, Advanced, Slim, Pro and Short Throw. LeEco Hits New Online Sales Record of Rs 78 Crore With Le 2 and Le Max2
BANGALORE, June 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
LeEco today (June 28) garners Rs 78.6 crore by achieving sales orders of over 61,000
units of its next-generation Superphones, Le 2 and Le Max2, in its flash sale campaign on
both LeMall.com India and Flipkart, updating the industry records set by itself a few
months ago. The total registration reached over 6 lakh within 8 days. LeEco is also the
first brand which released two flagship phones with Qualcomm processors in the same day.
The records were achieved through two combined channels, LeEco's own marketplace
e-commerce platform, LeMall.com India, which was just launched on June 8th, and Flipkart.
Atul Jain, COO - Smart Electronics, LeEco India, said, "We are humbled to see yet
another stupendous flash sale record in a row. The entire LeEco family is overwhelmed
seeing the response from our users. This time we have introduced world's first Digital
Lossless Audio Standard (CDLA). This will bring an unparalleled audio experience to our
superfans, thereby ushering in an era of lossless music in India and the globe. This is
going to become the new industry standard. We promise to live up to our Superfans'
expectation by bringing more breakthrough technologies, stronger comprehensive ecosystem,
and disruptive pricing."
The unprecedented responses from buyers were expected given four compelling reasons
LeEco brought to the smartphone market in India: lossless music with CDLA standard,
Supertainment with a complete content ecosystem and membership program, stylish design and
unprecedented features with cool technologies, and all these three coming at a disruptive
price offer by LeEco.
The record-making numbers of more than 61,000 orders received from buyers only
vindicates the point that LeEco's Superphones popularity has been soaring in an
unprecedented rate. Â
The total sales number in the flash sale also points to the growing craze for lossless
music. To catalyze this CDLA (Continual Digital Lossless Audio) standard adoption, LeEco
has made a handsome investment of Rs 200 million. In the first flash sale of its
Superphones Le 2 and Le Max2 that was held today (June 28), the Internet technology
conglomerate gave away a free CDLA earphone worth (price here
[http://www.lemall.com/in/product/le2/cdla.html ]) to all Le 2 and Le Max2 buyers. LeEco
is the world's first company that created the type-C CDLA earphone, replacing the
traditional 3.5mm headphone port and creating a lossless audio experience to end users.
The Supertainment program of LeEco is something that is resistless given the
popularity of entertainment programs in India. LeEco is now working with big names like
Eros Now, YuppTV and Hungama in India. Through LeEco's Membership program, users can get
access to a collection of 2000+ movies, inclusive of premieres from Hollywood & Bollywood.
LeEco membership program also provides 3000+ hours of curated shows, 150+ live TV channels
and 3.5 million songs of users' choices. LeEco takes the lead in offering 1.9 million
songs with lossless audio, bringing the users' audio experience to a brand new height.
Another reason that makes LeEco Superphone hard to resist is its stylish design and
cool features and technology. With stylish unibody metal designs, Le 2 is powered by the
Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 chipset, making the phone the first in India to adopt
such high-end and the most powerful Octa-Core CPU, which performs 21% faster than
Snapdragon 800 and is also miles ahead of Snapdragon 808. Le 2 provides a 16MP rear camera
and 8MP front camera. The image quality is visibly better with vibrant and true-to-life
colours. With technologies like PDAF, Closed Loop and other ground-breaking technologies,
people can catch clear pictures in moving and unfavourable conditions.
Powered by the world's most powerful processor, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, Le Max2
features the high-performance combination of 6GB RAM and 64GB ROM, pushing the limits of
the industry to new heights. With a RAM three times that of the iPhone 6s Plus, Le Max2
gives 40% faster performance than most other models.
Le Max2 features a 5.7 inch screen in 2K Super Retina Display, the best display for
itself and for VR equipment. Its 21MP rear camera and 8MP front camera both come with the
blazingly fast PDAF standard and F 2.0 aperture, which protects the images from smear and
dim light. The cameras on Le Max2 shot pictures with great clarity thanks to improved
components or technologies like 6-layer of lens, PDAF, Closed Loop, optical image
stabilization, Dual HDR and Dual-tone flash and so on.Â
For people who missed June 28th flash sale, they can expect the upcoming opportunity
very soon. LeEco's 2nd flash sale for Le 2 and Le Max2 will start on July 5th, and the
registration commence from 4 PMÂ today (June 28).
During the July 5th flash sale of Le 2 and Le Max2, users can look forward to some
amazing offers from both Flipkart and LeMall India:

"We want our products to be worn proudly, as much a function of fashion as a piece of technology. We believe that Here can evolve into a device for all ears and for all-day use, but there are steps we need to take in order to get there. Here One is a major step for us on that journey."
Starting today, U.S. consumers can pre-order Here One for $299 http://www.hereplus.me international pre-orders coming soon). Here One will start shipping and be available for purchase at retail this holiday season.

Permabit Debuts Only Complete Data Reduction for the Linux Storage Stack
VDO for hybrid cloud enables enterprises to maximize density, lower TCO
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., June 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Permabit Technology Corporation, the leader in data reduction technology, today announced the latest release of its Virtual Data Optimizer (VDO) software, VDO 6. The newest release of VDO delivers the company's patented deduplication, HIOPS Compression(TM) and thin provisioning in a commercial software package for Linux, expanding availability beyond the OEM marketplace to include the leading Professional Services organizations that are enabling today's modern Hybrid Cloud data centers.
New to this release is the VDO for Hybrid Cloud package, which simplifies the installation and configuration of VDO in data centers running Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Also new is the addition of the VDO Optimizer(TM) file system, which provides up to 20x improvement in data reduction rates when used with existing archive and backup applications.
"As the volume of data they store continues to grow and at ever-increasing rates, IT infrastructure teams find themselves between this irresistible force and the relatively inelastic walls and power distribution systems of their data centers," said Howard Marks, Chief Scientist at DeepStorage, LLC. "A solution like Permabit's VDO will not only optimize data on local storage but also in a hybrid cloud, significantly reducing the cost of cloud storage as well as the network load and storage ingest charges, since data is reduced before it's transferred."
VDO is the only modular data reduction solution available for the Linux block storage stack that works with the broad range of open source and commercial software solutions. As a ready-to-run kernel module for Linux, VDO works directly with Linux block devices and file systems across all types of cloud storage. This unique block-level approach allows Permabit customers to leverage existing file systems, volume management and data protection to deliver 4K inline, highly scalable data reduction in their Linux storage environments. Out of the box, VDO supports block, file and object storage on Red Hat Enterprise Linux and is compatible with Red Hat OpenStack, Ceph and Gluster.
"Widespread adoption of public, private and hybrid cloud computing is ushering in a new age of efficiency in IT," said Tom Cook, Permabit CEO. "Data reduction increases data center density and maximizes cloud efficiency. By introducing data reduction technologies, like Permabit VDO, on a global basis we could see $1.5 trillion saved in data center build-out, $10 billion saved in power costs and the prevention of 20 million metric tons of carbon emissions by 2020. This not only saves businesses precious capital outlays, it will help save the planet! Embracing efficiency is the only way to get more into your cloud."
VDO for Hybrid Cloud is currently being evaluated by the world's largest financial and communications companies as well as large government agencies. It is available immediately to Permabit storage OEMs and Hybrid Cloud Professional Services partners.

Bose Launches BOSEbuild - Introduces Build-It-Yourself Speaker for Kids
FRAMINGHAM, Mass., June 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Believing that hands-on exploration is the key to sparking a child's curiosity, Bose Corporation has officially launched BOSEbuild, the company's new "build-it-yourself" category focused specifically on kids. BOSEbuild's first product is the Speaker Cube, a complete kit that lets kids explore the science of sound by making a Bose(®) Bluetooth(®) speaker - and use their creativity to personalize it with colors and covers.
"Dr. Bose was fascinated with electric trains when he was very young," says Bob Maresca, CEO and president of Bose. "He learned how they worked by taking them apart and putting them back together, and he had that same insatiable curiosity throughout his entire life. That spirit is still at the heart of Bose. And it's a great example of what we'd like BOSEbuild to offer - fun and relatable ways for kids to make something they really want and can use for years to come, while learning about the incredible science and technology behind it."
The BOSEbuild Speaker Cube uses high-quality parts and materials for durability. It's easy to build, too. Its instructions involve discovery and education - from how a simple magnet and coil make sound, to how a speaker reproduces music. The coaching is delivered through a free companion app that combines step-by-step guidance with hands-on interaction, confirming success along the way until the Speaker Cube is fully assembled. By adding colored lights and silhouette covers, every Speaker Cube can be uniquely customized by its builder. And like any Bose Bluetooth speaker, the Speaker Cube pairs to any smartphone or tablet, so kids can stream their favorite songs in an instant. When they are done, kids will enjoy amazing Bose sound for years to come.
"We believe in the importance of STEM education," says Joe Titlow, Head of Sales and Marketing for BOSEbuild. "But learning doesn't just happen at school - it happens in garages and backyards and at kitchen tables, and it starts at a young age. That's what's so exciting about BOSEbuild products. They'll give kids a new way to use, share, and celebrate their imagination and creativity. And we hope that starts a lifetime of discovery."
The BOSEbuild Speaker Cube is now available at build.bose.com for $149. It's intended for ages 8 and older - and for the kid in all of us.
About BOSEbuild
BOSEbuild is committed to sparking the natural curiosity of kids, helping them discover more about the awesome world they live in. IBM Research Scientists Discover New Recycling Process to Convert Old Smartphones and CDs into Non-Toxic, High-Strength Plastics
One-step approach converts BPA-leaching plastics into environmentally safe material for water purification and medical devices
ARMONK, N.Y., June 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Every year, the world generates more than 2.7 million tons of a plastic[1], known as polycarbonates, to create common household items, such as CDs, baby bottles, eyeglass lenses and smartphones. Over time, polycarbonates decompose and leach BPA, a chemical that, in 2008, caused retailers to pull plastic baby bottles from store shelves due to concerns about the potential effects of BPA on the brain.
Today, IBM Research (NYSE: IBM) announced that researchers from the Almaden lab in San Jose, Calif. have discovered a new, one-step chemical process that converts polycarbonates into plastics safe for water purification, fiber optics and medical equipment.
In the study, IBM Researchers added a fluoride reactant, a base (similar to baking powder) and heat to old CDs to produce a new plastic with temperature and chemical resistance superior to the original substance. When the powder is reconstructed into new forms, its strength prevents the decomposition process that causes BPA leaching.
"Polycarbonates are common plastics in our society - especially in consumer electronics in the form of LED screens, smartphones and Blu-rays, as well as everyday eyeglass lenses, kitchen utensils and household storage gear," said Gavin O. Jones, Ph.D., research staff member, IBM Research - Almaden (San Jose, Calif.). "We now have a new way of recycling to improve how this prominent substance impacts the world's health and environment."
"While preventing these plastics from entering landfills, we simultaneously recycle the substance into a new type of plastic -- safe and strong enough for purifying our water and producing medical equipment," said Jeanette Garcia, Ph. D., research staff member, IBM Research - Almaden (San Jose, Calif.). "It's an environmental win on many fronts."
In this study, researchers used a combination of predictive modeling and experimental lab work to make the discovery. The learning from these research efforts is also used to advance cognitive systems to help accelerate the materials discovery process. The scale, pace and complexity of materials science is a challenge for scientists working to discover new materials. As part of the IBM Research Frontiers Institute, scientists are combining expertise in informatics and polymers, and other materials, to prototype systems to extract, organize, analyze, and predict insights from materials datasets. By leveraging existing knowledge from the world's scientific databases and accelerating computations used in these types of experiments, these cognitive tools could help identify patterns and to bring new discoveries to realization faster.
IBM Watson Discovery Advisor is an example of a cognitive system available to assist pharmacological researchers in finding new potential drug molecules and IBM's science research team continues to broaden the domain expertise into new material areas.
The full research paper, One-step Conversion of Polycarbonates into Value-added Polyaryl ether sulfones, was published in the peer-reviewed journal, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America.
For more than seven decades, IBM Research has defined the future of information technology with more than 3,000 researchers in 12 labs located across six continents. Scientists from IBM Research have produced six Nobel Laureates, 10 U.S. National Medals of Technology, five U.S. National Medals of Science, six Turing Awards, 19 inductees in the National Academy of Sciences and 20 inductees into the U.S. National Inventors Hall of Fame. Alma Technologies Releases Encoder IP Core for CCSDS-Developed Lossless and Lossy Image Data Compression
TOULOUSE SPACE SHOW, TOULOUSE, France, June 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Alma Technologies S.A., a company that designs, markets, sells and supports innovative semiconductor IP since 2001, today introduced at the Toulouse Space Show 2016 a new encoder IP core which implements the CCSDS 122.0-B-1 lossless and lossy image data compression standard.
The CCSDS 122.0-B-1 specification is part of a standards suite developed by the Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems. The CCSDS is formed by the major space agencies of the world for the development of communications and data systems standards for space applications. The CCSDS 122.0-B-1 fits the compression requirement for a wide range of spaceborne two-dimensional spatial image data. In these applications the requirement is for a scalable data reduction, with the option to use lossless or lossy compression, using a memory-efficient and reduced complexity algorithm that results in a fast, low-power and compact hardware implementation.
The new Alma Technologies CCSDS-122-E encoder IP core is an advanced implementation of the CCSDS 122.0-B-1 image data compression standard and supports image or video data with a pixel dynamic range of up to 16 bits. The CCSDS-122-E is a complete and autonomous CPU/GPU-less encoder. It accepts the uncompressed image data in standard raster scan pixel order and outputs standalone and fully compliant CCSDS 122.0-B-1 byte-stream format. The CCSDS-122-E is designed for enabling high-rate data compression, with low resource usage, in both FPGA and ASIC implementations.
Similar to JPEG 2000, the CCSDS 122.0-B-1 utilizes a two-dimensional Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) for image data decorrelation. CCSDS 122.0-B-1 uses a 9/7 integer DWT for the lossless compression, while a 9/7 float DWT is also specified for improved lossy compression efficiency, especially at low bit-rates. Both DWT options are available by the Alma Technologies CCSDS-122-E encoder. For complete control by the application of the lossy compression ratio, the CCSDS-122-E includes also the optional rate control functionality that is provisioned by the standard.
The CCSDS 122.0-B-1 standard was developed to balance between compression performance and complexity with particular emphasis on spacecraft applications. Compared to JPEG 2000, it achieves slightly lower, but essentially similar, lossless and lossy compression efficiency. Due to its reduced complexity, it requires significantly less silicon logic area, along with reduced amount of internal memories, and achieves higher throughput. The Alma Technologies CCSDS-122-E encoder realizes all these expected benefits, while also not needing an external memory device for its implementation.
Alma Technologies is a semiconductor IP provider, designing high-quality FPGA and ASIC IP cores since 2001. Its products stand out for their engineering, being complete, easy-to-use and reliable IP solutions. World-class technical support and a long track record of proven designs by more than 200 licensees in over 20 countries provide Alma Technologies customers with excellent service and great value.
Available either as self-contained and implementation technology independent VHDL or Verilog RTL, or as optimized Netlists for Altera, Lattice, Microsemi and Xilinx FPGA and SoC devices, Alma Technologies IP ensures a fast and trouble-free integration in any FPGA or ASIC design.
