»Biggest Hole In Space, Ever!

Scientists found a huge 1 billion light year hole in space. The actual finding is based on the cosmic microwave background. Interesting stuff.

Quote

The cold spot in question is an unexplained anomaly in the map of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) created by NASA’s WMAP satellite. The photons of the CMB coming from a region of the sky in the direction of the constellation Eridanus are colder than expected. Rudnick’s team started looking for radio sources such as radio galaxies and quasars in the direction of the cold spot. "Radio sources track the distribution of mass in the universe," says Rudnick. "They are the signposts for galaxies, clusters of galaxies and dark matter."

Russia had originally sought to join a U.S. plan to establish a moon base in 2024. But Perminov said earlier this year the U.S. rebuffed the offer to jointly explore the moon. On Friday, Perminov said Russia plans to complete its section of the International Space Station by 2015 and will begin working on a modernization of the Soyuz spacecraft used to transport cosmonauts and equipment to the station.

Sure, it's a classic gothic romance. But does anyone else find it hard to follow Mr. Rochester's conversation? Also, I'd like to know what happened fiery begruding attitude Jane always nursed through her girlhood...

I was actually quite surprised sometimes at how resignedly she endured some of Mr. Rochester and his companions' humiliations. I would have at the LEAST expected to spend some time moping over the injustice of it all.

I didn't even notice that there was a books topic! *glee*

I highly recommend people read Wizard's First Rule in the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind.

The series puts a lot of emphasis on the fact that most tryants and evil doers don't think of themselves as such...
It's fast-paced and very well thought out. One character actually goes from a being a nobody, to one of the most powerful wizards in the world, to the emperor of an entire country! I spent many a night in agonized anticipation because I just couldn't wait to find out what happened next.

Each book explores a 'rule' or truth... The first truth, for example, is:
"People will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true."

CHECK IT OUT!

I can't believe they thought it was controversial that the heroine be named 'Maddy' and listed as a 'Chambermaid' and that Disney actually caved to change it.

Although... Tiana is a much prettier name.

It looks cool. But if they want to compete, they should work on lowering that price tag.

I dunno about that. I would jump at that one just for the ability to expand the memory past the normal amount. SD cards are cheap as hell, so one could easily buy the 4 gig model, buy a 4 gig SD card for 30 bucks and double the amount of space.

The MSI marketing people just sent through a shot of the almost final revision of their X38 Diamond with the new full cooper heat pipe cooling solution (the shipping version will be striped of DDR2 slots and will be DDR3 only). The X38 chipset does get quite hot and as a result, a rather exotic cooler is required to keep things in order but it is not quite as crazy as the previous types we have seen from MSI but almost. This heat pipe cools the PWM area, X38 Northbridge, ICH9R Southbridge and the final chip at the very bottom (which is used to control PCI Express lane sharing between the four PEG x16 slots). The top two slots will run at x16 electronically while the bottom two will operate at x4 each if the top two are used in dual graphics mode (note we didn't just say Crossfire as X38 like its older brother the 975X can do SLI just not officially).

GECUBE is expecting the Gemini 3 to be available in retail some time next month, but we weren't given an exact launch date or a price for that matter.

The R500 received a lot of hype right from the start because of a few important distinctions. First of all, the R500 was (and still is) the slimmest notebook currently available with an optical drive. Its 7mm thick drive allows a total closed system height of just 0.77". Not long after the initial announcement the R500 made more headlines when different SKUs were announced, one of which (the R500-S5003) was called the world's lightest 12" notebook. At 1.7lbs for model with a 12.1" LCD (though no optical drive) this version of the R500 is obviously an incredible system, though its 64GB solid-state disk also helps to set it apart from the crowd. The R500 also touts the longest battery life of any 12.1" widescreen notebook, though this is something that we will look into more closely.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. As GPU's continue to hunger for more and more power they will continue to generate more and more heat. Gone are the days when a simple piece of metal would suffice. Even mid-range cards such as the 8800GTS require a dual-slot cooling solution to tame the beast within. What is an enthusiast to do? Sure you can get a nice large cooler if you can live with the noise it generates. What about water cooling? Ya know, that stuff you're NOT supposed to bring near expensive electronics. Before you decide me mad and click that little red 'X' what if I told you that you need not be so desperate to try water cooling. That a company with higher quality standards than most car manufacturers has a waterblock that destro! ys the competition and keeps your video card nice and chilly. With no more ado I give you the MCW-60 from Swiftech, a waterblock that delivers were it counts.

I love how we grant patents to things that are obvious, even when they were filed. This patent company is suing many online companies over their use of automated response emails. I believe that vacation responders and the like have been around for much longer.

Quote

A more likely scenario appears to be a payday for the plaintiff. "It looks like Polaris IP is in the business of licensing patent rights and has no desire to enforce its requested injunction," said Dennis Crouch, associate professor of law at University of Missouri School of Law and the author of the law blog Patently-O, in an e-mail. "I expect that Polaris IP will be willing to settle these cases for what it believes is a reasonable six- or seven-digit figure." Crouch pointed out that the message routing patent at issue has been involved in litigation many times. "There are no published opinions associated with these cases and they have all been settled," he said. Polaris IP, Crouch observed, "appears to be part of a web of IP-related companies associated with attorney David Pridham." These companies include Orion IP, Constellation IP, IP Navigation Group, Cushion Technologies, CT IP Holdings, Triton, Circinus IP, and Firepond.

Said By ExShinobi

not the Bermuda triangle its in the area of japan lol.

as for the uso's as i said before are unidentified SUBMERGED objects. like objects that glow under water. or like fly around ships uber fast and then dive under water

I picked this post to quote to answer everyone's question or rather clarify!

UFO - ANYTHING seen in the air above the surface of the earth that is unidentifiable. So yes UFO'S are real, just not necessarily aliens or extraterrestrials, many times pressure builds up in the Earth;s crust which can cause balls and flashes of light in the sky that dance and move with incredible speed and apparent maneuverability, but it is not alien. It is believed these account for most UFO sightings, along with weather balloons and new aircraft test flights!

USO - Same as UFO but under water, it is believed we have only categorized 1/10 th of the creatures in the sea and a new species is cataloged every week or more, and their are of course new dsv and usv crafts tested regularly.

Devils triangle - the area of ocean between Bermuda, Florida, and Puerto Rico, where many anomalies have been reported along with missing ships and aircraft Most of the ship and air craft disappearances have been attributed to subterranean undersea gas pockets being released due to the shifting of the ocean bottom from the many undersea volcanoes and earthquakes, the bubbles in the water beneath a water craft such as a boat or ship, causes the water lose most of it's density and therefore the craft lose most of their buoyancy, then the methane gas being lighter than air rises and aircraft flying through this cloud of gas which is also less dense than the air, lose altitude and lack of oxygen can cause the engines to stall or if there is enough oxygen for the engines to run they can ignite the cloud, either way you have an aircraft down.

Japan's Dragons Triangle - An area of ocean near Japan, with similar characteristics and anomalies ans the Bermuda triangle.

I hope this is found to be clear and understandable by all as well as informative!

After 10 years, SG-1 is over (except for the straight to DVD movies). Did anyone else catch the finale? I have to admit that I loved that Daniel and Vala got together, even thought I hate Vala. I even loved his initial denial tirade and thought Michael Shanks captured it perfectly. It was very much in character. Could have done with less Cam and Landry, more T'ealc and any O'Neill, though!

To tell the truth I didn't like Vala or Mitchel (Claudia Black & Ben Browder) from when they were coupled in Farscape, but I must admit for the few seasons from when they were introduced, both characters have grown on me, but mostly Vala's! I like when characters GROW in their show and hers was a well written well thought out character as well as creative!

This is a good idea to use solar power for WiFi transmitters. Most public WiFi spots are out in the sun anyway.

Quote

Since solar energy can't be harvested all the time, the panel is actually far larger than would be necessary to simply power the router. In Florida, which gets about 4.5 hours of peak solar energy a day, Solis installs a 220-watt solar panel that measures about 4 feet by 5 feet. Ordinarily, a router only needs about 24 watts of power, he said. All that extra power goes to recharging the batteries, which run all night. The batteries in the system let the routers survive cloudy periods and can actually keep the router going for seven days without a recharge, Reynolds said.

It seems that my new 8600GTS has some problems in Linux. The screen redraw is horrible. It seriously is worse than my old X800... I think it is even worse than the plain vesa driver!

I'm running a fresh install of Kubuntu and installed the latest drivers with Envy. You can really notice the problem in Firefox because the redraw is really, really bad.

Anyone have a solution? I may just call Nvidia and complain about this. I had a 6600GT that works perfectly with these drivers. I'm amazed that the new cards suck so bad in Linux.

G-modes arise when pockets of material rising up from deep within the Sun get pulled downwards again by gravity, leading to a wave motion similar to the rise and fall of waves on the surface of the ocean. Both types of waves vibrate very slowly. The p-modes vibrate with periods of a few minutes, while the periods of g-modes are even longer, lasting tens of minutes or even several hours.

»Offshore Or Automated?

Which would you rather have? A live person from another country or an automated system. I saw neither and give me people from my own country.

"The general upheld myth is that everyone wants to talk to an agent," Buckle said. "People are really changing their preferences when it comes to contacting organizations." According to the ITA survey, just more than a third of call center managers believe that all customers would rather speak to an agent than a speech recognition system. Around 29 percent say they have not used a speech recognition system solely because of the cost. However, 62 percent of call center managers agree that speech recognition systems offer a better customer experience than touch-tone self-service systems.
